KKOB Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 The GameStation on New St in Birmingham City Center has had its ground floor closed off for a couple days now. A sign instore is saying how its something unlike anything else in Europe and that it will be reopening the ground floor in the next 2-4 weeks. they do give the clue thats its something to do with videogames. . . which is a MASSIVE help! I think its VERY MYSTERIOUS!!! As this is GameStations flagship store and the UKs largest specialist games store im trying to think what it could be. Clearly its something different as the guy on the mic walking round the store says its something completly different and that no other game store will have it. Maybe something to do with Wii??? or PS3??? or it could be an arcade type thing perhaps? or a sit down area for Wi Fi gaming? What do you guys think? I know how much you love conspiracys

KKOB Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Cool thats good I hope it is someting to do with the Nintendo Wii i thought that at first, if they had one of the first Wii demo stations it would be cool, plus it kinda fits in with the time frame for the Wii's final date and price etc. AND Nintendo NEEDS to get people to have a hands on go with Wii.
Dan_Dare Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 if it's a flagship store, I can imagine it being converted into an arcade/demo pod area. how big are we talking here?
KKOB Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 if it's a flagship store, I can imagine it being converted into an arcade/demo pod area. how big are we talking here? dont ask me for dimensions lol i'd say about the size of two averag through-lounges if that makes sense-Ashley may know the size better cos im crap with working out distance etc. pretty big anywho-it used to hold all the PC games and pre owned PC and retro games and memorabilia.
BeerMonkey Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 lots of game pods of 360/wii/ps3 so peeps can play before they buy for xmas came to my mind
shaq365 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Might be a gym area with work out equipment - that's what I've heard...
Ashley Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Was going to say I'll go tomorrow to mentally size it up but um can't can I ^_^ Anyway, there would be sufficient size for demo pods and arcade machines.

weeyellowbloke Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Realisticly I would guess some form of arcade or large scale demo area. Fantasticly I would guess a giant Dance-Dance Revolution nightclub.
Cubechris Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Last time I was down there, it had retro games, toys, and gaming tees, I even bought a few Halo figurines on the cheap. Great store, I hope they keep the old arcade unit they had down there.
Tellyn Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I never see any arcade machines any more. Last one I saw was in Crete where I was staying: Hydro Thunder, awesome game by Midway, perfect for Wii.

Mokong Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Sounds interesting.... what happened to those "Countdown Clocks" that were gonna be turned on after Leipzig?
Eddage Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Sounds interesting.... what happened to those "Countdown Clocks" that were gonna be turned on after Leipzig? They were only gonna be turned on after Leipzig on the assumption that the launch date was going to be revealed, we'll have to wait till Nintendo reveal the date.
Tom Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 the new street gamestation is huge. biggest in the country i believe, they could do something pretty special there. wii demo pods would be awesome, as the only way anyone but nintendo fans will buy the wii is if they get to play it.
Ashley Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Sounds interesting.... what happened to those "Countdown Clocks" that were gonna be turned on after Leipzig? We had an email about those (well we had an email saying "we've secured 40 more, the first 40 people to email back gets them", dunno if we have yet). Anyway they are countdown clocks which are linked to Nintendo directly, so dates can be updated. A "card" can be put in the front to change the display and such. So I presume it would be a general one that can constantly be changed for different releases, rather than just Wii.

Owen Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Maybe it's a games lounge. I think your right. Modern look with LCD screens etc... There will be Wii demo pods soon as well, probably.

Damn him and his getting-to-play-Wii-early!
