Tellyn Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Actually I need a target because if it's November, I won't be able to pay it all, I'd be in debt and have to borrow some money.
Ginger_Chris Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 oh yea they are doing well at building hype with us guys. we were all here waiting for each post during the conference. but how many of the general public know about this confention and the internet hype about it. Its all well and good building up hype with the fanbase, but we're going to buy it almost definaterly. Remember we arent the general public.
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 To be honest, if you give certain details and information away too early, you run the risk of "showing all your cards". From my point of view, i think Sony have done that. They showed, more or less, everything at once. They took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Nintendo seem to be doing things but in smaller quantities. E3= console, TGS=Controller, E3 again=games. Releasing the info slowly like that allows the hype to build. Is there hype over the possible Wii price? By God, yes. Listen to yourselves, you're getting all worked up over NOT getting a certain piece of information that you forget that they didn't actually promise to show anything. What did they promise a few months ago when they showed off the Legend of Zelda DS? What was the difference between that event and this one? The difference is, the hype. Nobody was expecting anything at that event, but everyone is expecting something big at this one? Why is that? It's more or less taking a stab in the dark. Heck, we didn't even get the name at a conference or big show. It came on an ordinary day. They did this so as not to detract attention at E3. They knew many people would question the name, so they chose to reveal it a few weeks before E3. At E3, it more or less paid off. The name had sunk in. Now, if they said September, then why question otherwise? We know it won't cost more than 200 quid anyway, and it will be less than the 360 and PS3. All this talk about "i don't know how much to save up for" is rubbish. Use your common sense and save everything you have for the Wii. Haha.
RedShell Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 New, cheesy Elebits multiplayer trailer at IGN. http://wii.ign.com/articles/727/727443p1.html Multi-player looks fantastic!
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 You crazy fools. Mario Strikers and BWii are both online. So why so sad?
Kazzahdrane Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 As someone that works in games retail I am getting very worried about Nintendo's attitude. If they are really going for a launch sometime around the PS3 release date then they are going to be cutting it close when they announce the date. Retailers need to build up demand for the console, and as easy as it is to laugh at Sony for making the PS3 £425 at least people know when it's coming out and have known for months. Nintendo did so well at E3 and now it just looks like they don't know how to handle the attention.
triforcemario Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Remember everyone, theres always a slight chance of news leakage tomorrow, since theres going to be a EA/Nintendo conference tomorrow.
Owen Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I was just about to say, do you think we could be given little snippets over the course of Leipzeg? Like some-more later today, some tomorrow, some friday? Like when we all thought it was over at E3, Nintendo then released SSBB!
knightendo Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 ok first of all i wana quote all of this from nintendo uk, and it answers the question of what promise they were keeping: ----- "23rd August 2006 - Challenging conventions, redefining the industry, leading the way with change and disruption - at last year’s Games Convention Nintendo made a bold statement that it would expand the definition of gaming. Following today’s conference it is evident that Nintendo is delivering on its promises. With over 5 million DS owners across Europe, females making up 44% of all Nintendo DS owners in Germany and the huge success of the Touch! Generations range, Nintendo is clearly appealing to traditional gamers and non gamers. In the coming year Nintendo will continue to expand the gaming industry with the launch of the highly innovative Wii. This year’s Games Convention saw the global premier of two brand-new 1st Party Wii titles, Mario Strikers Charged (tentative name) and Battalion Wars II. German football ace Philipp Lahm gave the audience a treat when his video message introduced Mario Strikers Charged, the all-new and improved version of Mario Smash Football. Nintendo also unveiled the new Battalion Wars II game for Wii and gave a demonstration of Wii showing how the innovative control mechanism allows people of all ages and experience levels to play together. German quiz show host Joerg Pilawa gave a testimonial about the huge success of the Touch! Generations software and how the Nintendo DS has challenged convention since its launch. The perfect platform for the Touch! Generations titles, the Nintendo DS, which was developed to enlarge and diversify the gaming market has enabled people to play in ways never before imaginable. Most recently, European consumers have gone mad for Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, with over 500,000 copies being snapped up in just nine weeks from the game’s launch in June. From Nintendogs puppies - which have sold more than 600,000 copies in Germany and over 3 million across Europe - to the second world of Animal Crossing: Wild World - which has sold over 600,000 copies across Europe - the amazing software results have created a dramatic shift in the way that both game makers and the public think of video games. Not only has the software flown off the shelves but sales of Nintendo DS are also going from strength to strength, further fuelled by the successful launch of the Nintendo DS Lite - the lighter, brighter redesign of the Nintendo DS which launched in Europe in June. In Europe sales of Nintendo DS are now well over 5 million and globally over 21 million have been sold. The popularity of the console is set to continue as Nintendo announces the launch of Nintendo DS Lite Pink on 27th October, the perfect accessory for those dark winter days. With new ways to play and new categories of software, the success of Nintendo DS is setting the stage for Wii. Allowing players to ‘feel’ games in a way never known before, the Wii is set to redefine the standards of the industry even further. With more announcements about Wii to follow, consumers, no matter what their age or ability, can look forward to experiencing a whole new way of playing this year." ----- so there you go, the promise was the one made to the same conference last year. (that rss feed has paid off rather quickly!) second-of-all, i'm with fierce-link here, and i was one of the ones who sat up ALL night and now has bigger bags under my eyes than Taggart ever did!! i allowed the internet hype to get to me, to believe that something huge was gonna be released today! and it was! two new Wii games, and both online! however, at the time that wasn't enough, because i was expecting the motherload, the megaton, the megatron, the optimus prime!! but in hindsight, we shouldn't have allowed ourselves to get so worked up! we knew all about ninty's exclusive conference in two weeks with reggie, that should've been enough. but also add the fact that ninty themselves weren't hyping the event, only the fans were. also, the GDC is a developer's conference, and is rather low-key. everything (i can't remember my other points i'm too tired, help me out here fierce) pointed to what happened today. if we hadn't have let ourselves get each other hyped up (not just this forum obviously, but all of us rabid fans the world over) then right now we'd be amazed at the two games coming out and the fact they're online. too many people have shouted out now that nintendo are idiots, that they've let themselves down, that they're pricks one person said!! they know what they're doing, the secrets and the hype machine has worked great so far, and with sony just about willing to steal anything no wonder they're keeping things close to their chests. and for goodness sake, it's only two weeks away, STILL in the same time window we knew all along - september!! now i'm away to lie down...
djamb3 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 What a wonderful conference. I want to punch you....
Owen Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 We didn't know about that September thing to after the conference though? Now they have said that, it was obvious nothing was going to be said at GDC. Maybe if they said about the September conference before todays one, it would of made people realise not to expect anything (and me of course). Roll on September 14th, but should we get excited?

ThePigMarcher Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 oops.... I overslept. Just as well really , I missed sweet FA. Mario Strikers big deal (even with online) , DS Stuff (no real interest to me) , only positive was news of BWii.
mike-zim Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 i thought this would happen. i am really happy with the things that were shown. excellent stuff. cant wait for september now.
Helmsly Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 There I was thinking no one will ever do a conference as bad as Sony E3 2006...
Shino Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 There I was thinking no one will ever do a conference as bad as Sony E3 2006... The problem is, this is not E3, people just kept hyping, this wasn't another megaton.
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 This conference wasn't even on a comparable scale to E3. It's like comparing the FA Cup Final to the Carling Cup first round. It's pointless comparing the two. Fact is, nothing big was ever going to be shown. Rumours and gossip promised all of these things, not Nintendo. I'm pretty happy with what we got actually, and that is 2 new games and the fact that Nintendo are being serious with the online aspect of Wii, as both of these games will be online.
Hero-of-Time Posted August 23, 2006 Author Posted August 23, 2006 The problem is, this is not E3, people just kept hyping, this wasn't another megaton. Very true. You would have thought I would have learnt my lesson by now about getting hyped but sadly I havent. I hate the internet!
mcj metroid Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 No, i'm sorry to the people who disagree, but we have waited long enough now. Keep saving your money people, because we have no-idea how much your launch stuff is going to come too and how many games are coming out during this year , and what games there going to be, and how much the controllers are, how much the memory cards are, how much the retro games cost and how many of them are availible on day one and where you can buy the point cards and when your able to actually buy it, November? December? So many questions need answering, parents don't understand all this. How come i preordered my 360 in May and it came out December? and you knew how much things where and what games were coming out etc...? The only good thing about this is, we've waited so long for the release date, that when they finally announce it, you'll be preordering it a month or so before it actually comes out. Of course this is my opinion, not everyones agreed. It was a mistake not releasing the info at the event. Now what are we waiting for?which is next?
Kazzahdrane Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Sorry...this event with Reggie that is coming up. What/when is it? I actually hadn't heard anything about it...
Hellfire Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 lol @ ppl expecting megatons all the time. BWii+Mario Strikers= love
Helmsly Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Thing is I wasn’t expecting this to be on the scale of E3 since last year we got pretty much the same amount of info however like Owen said we really should know the date and launch line up by now. We know next to nothing about how the Virtual console thing will work out etc and this really should have been the time to do it. Announcing A Pink DS lite is something that can be done in a press release, Mario strikers wasn’t that great of a game on the cube so I’m not particularly excited about a sequel (online or not). Bwii is the only thing worth any interest. At least with Sony they gave us some cold hard facts, I actually know when its due and its price so I can actually make a decision on whether I will get one or not.
