PioRow Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Every previous Nintendo console I have owned (apart from handhelds) has been a import machine. This has been due to the usual reasons, UK nintendo poor support, NTSC games etc etc. Bue now I am considering buying a UK Wii. If the release dates of the machines and the games are roughly the same the only reason to by import would be the component 480p issue. If the UK console outputs a 480p signal then I could buy a UK console. Do people think that the UK console will be a match for its NTSC counter part?
The3rdChildren Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 UK, unless there's a broad gap between release here and abroad.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 UK, unless there's a broad gap between release here and abroad. Same here. All though I doubt Nintendo would release the Wii after Christmas over here. Would they?
conzer16 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 No, they've already confirmed it will be in Europe in 2006.
The3rdChildren Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 If they release it after Christmas and I go into ANOTHER new year without having played Twilight Princess my love for them will be severely damaged.
Phube Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 No, they've already confirmed it will be in Europe in 2006. Where has this been confirmed, I'm sure I've never seen an explicit statement from Ninty confirming as such.... Where's your proof??
nintendovip Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Just to let you know. I was invited to the Nintendo show that was held last month in covent gardens, and every wii that was there was hooked up to a plasma / lcd screen via component. I spoke to a young lad who worked for noe and asked about the 480p issue, as i have a 36" tosh that is component compatible, and he told me that all versions will be able to display 480p widescreen. Hope that helps
demonmike04 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Where has this been confirmed, I'm sure I've never seen an explicit statement from Ninty confirming as such.... Where's your proof?? Interview Spong had a week ago, you'l have to find it yourself im afraid, as im too lazy.
Owen Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 UK definately! Then i'll be keeping a VERY close eye on game releases and how long they take! If it's 3 months till a game comes out in Europe after USA. Then i may buy a import Will sometime next year! However i'm hoping Nintendo have learnt by their stupid mistakes and won't take so long to release games in Europe!
Nintendinosaur Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Aswell as that Spong interview it also says "Wii coming 2006" on the front page of Ninty's euro site.
Phube Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Aswell as that Spong interview it also says "Wii coming 2006" on the front page of Ninty's euro site. Well alright I'll believe you... But just this once... I'm just naturally pessimistic about Nintendo launches in Europe...
Sparko Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I'd only consider importing if the Wii was region free and if there was a significant delay between the release in the US & Europe. But seen as it probably won't be region free, and I expect to see the Wii over here before the end of the year, I'm fairly certain I'll be getting the European version.
Hal_9Million Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 UK, there isn't going to be a need to import like in the past anymore.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 SAUCE MOAR You've been on the internets again, don't you? Now that i know that the PAL Wii will be progressive scan compatible, then i'll defo get a European one. One day i will find the reason why the americans have the right to use it and we do not. Although they pay less for they'r consoles/games.
dabookerman Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 You've been on the internets again, don't you? that always makes me laugh, it needed to be said.
GigaPlay Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I bet none of your "UK" Wiis will even be made in the UK. :P PAL for sure though, I doubt we'll be waiting too long for it.
Emasher Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 North American wii all the way! Though I do live in Canada. :awesome: I'm hoping for it to come out in NA first and on the first sunday in november or october. Then all be on the forums all day telling you how great it is (I won't spoil anything). On second thought i'll just play wii all day.
PioRow Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 I'm leaning towards a UK Wii after reading on this thread that its going to be 480p. My only concern is the delay in the release of the console and games. I dont want to have to wait a month or so for the great games after they have been released in the US. If it was multiregion I would definately buy a UK Wii and just buy import games if the difference in release dates was huge. I might just pre order a Wii from Game or Virgin and then if it turns out not to be what I want cancel the pre order and get a US Wii.

Guest Stefkov Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 al my consoles bar my gba (well it was at the US airport so i dont know what that counts as) ive got here in ol' blighty. so i wil get my wii here. and the many games to come. only console i ever thought of inporting while not in the counrty was the ds, but then ninty-europe did that stars thing so i got it there.
Cube Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I'm leaning towards a UK Wii after reading on this thread that its going to be 480p. My only concern is the delay in the release of the console and games. Could import Wiis have similar Wi-Fi troubles as import DSes? Although isn't that just LAN Wi-Fi? (curoius...could multiple Wii's connect via Wi-Fi LAN for larger multiplayer matches, like MK:DD!! on GC?)
The fish Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 The Wii does have Wi-fi lan. And DS-style download play. I'm getting a UK one so I don't have to import all my games, unless the date difference is of DS proportions...

Charlie Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Freeloader will probably be out by march. Didn't the GameCube's freeloader take about 2 years to get released?
