Zell Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The magazine is very meaty, sports a nice stylish cover and comes with a large poster and a DVD. Not too bad, although the news inside is quite old for some. Review scores listed below. In accordance games have been deducted points (eg Wind Waker is now 92%). ------ Cube's post is below. New NGC, Free DVD, Bigger Mag (well, size restored 116ish pages), and no more 3-4 pages wasted on massive artwork, plus no 10-ish pages used on worthless posters. I haven't had chance to look at the DVD yet, but it has 18.5 mins of Super Mario Galaxy, and shows off 3 bosses. It has over 2 hours of footage for Wii, DS, GameCube and GBA. Also free is a large double-sided Mario poster. So, the mag itself News: Not really anything new, just the last 2 months crammed together. - A developer that "received 10 Wii dev kits" mentioned that because of the Wii's "astonishing power", they were able to add loads of special effects to their game(s) after E3. Owen Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The magazine is superb! PACKED with information! espicially the news page! BRILLIANT! Can't wait for the second issue out September 6th 2006!
Zell Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 The scores have become more EDGE like. In the old NGC, NSMB would have probably got a score of 92%. At least it didn't get a ridiculously inflated 96% like in ONM.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 No offense to Zell but Cube your post was more informative.
Zell Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 True but I was quicker . Cube, if you don't mind, I can edit my post so that I can copy and paste your post onto this thread, how that sound?
Ollie Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Plus there is also a thread in Gen Chat, that's a running total of 3
Jamba Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Sounds good. Worried about their news as some of it seems to be rumour. New button? pfffffft...

I totally agree, the Ngamer score for NSMB is pretty much what i would of given it, star game, could do with alot more. 96% In ONM is rediculous, i bet the 4% it missed out on was due to the lack of the feather hat.
The Bard Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Then this means that Metroid Prime now also has 92% which is infact bullshit, because the game is nigh on perfect.
Tellyn Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Resident Evil 4, Zelda, and Metroid, all reduced to ruins. Why must they dumb down scores? Do they have a scientific method by which they did it? NO! THe new editor or the guy who dislikes Zelda will have jumped at the chance to re-grade it.
Zell Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 Then this means that Metroid Prime now also has 92% which is infact bullshit, because the game is nigh on perfect. Actually Metroid Prime has been reduced to 90%. Down 7%. The new list in my opinion is complete cock. Animal Crossing 3rd? Pikmin 2 4th?! SUPER MONKEY BALL 5TH?!?! All above Metoid Prime (now 90%), Smash Bros (now (89%) and Mario Sunshine (now 86% down 10%). It's completely lunacy. At least Resi 4 is in its rightful place: top.
knightendo Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 i agree super monkey ball is NOT better than prime, but animal crossing, pikmin etc is i suppose personal opinion. personally i prefer prime but they could be argued satisfactorily lol! i was quite shocked at mk:ds only getting 82% and mario and luigi getting 80%, but then i thought of edge's 8/10 scores for both games and that seemed fine, so i guess this is the percentage equivalent. they DO seem a lot harsher than NGC, which i suppose is a good thing as they are a lot more mature with this mag it appears... so far anyway. i love the new ONM too, and i agree with their scores so far also. it'll be nice to have two different approaches to reviews and read two opinions again like in the heyday of the gamecube when i read both NGC and Cube.

Resi 4, well thats a relief, still it deserves to be 3rd not 1st. My list would go like this: Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2 Resident Evil 4 Soul Calibur 2 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Timesplitters 2 F-Zero GX Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones Waverace: Blue Storm Super Smash Bros: Melee Tales of Symphonia Resident Evil. Ngamers list sucks.
Strider Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Is there anything free with the subscriptions, like the ONM free games one?
gaggle64 Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 A free official Wavebird controller when you subscibe. Not too shabby.
Strider Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 A free official Wavebird controller when you subscibe. Not too shabby. wow you can't complain about that.
spirited away Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Great first issue, nice to see imported games being reviewed, so much to read!
Hero-of-Time Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Smash Bros (now (89%) That is just absurd. How can you mark down the greatest fighting game ever to grace the world. Anything below 90% for Smash is a joke.
mcj metroid Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 is it out in ireland if its out in england its out in ireland,But u may have to look in EASONS or some big mag store like that
Zell Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 That is just absurd. How can you mark down the greatest fighting game ever to grace the world. Anything below 90% for Smash is a joke. It is a complete joke. They originally gave it 95% a score it richly deserves. I view Smash Bros as the best multiplayer game of all time and saying that it's worse than the mediocre Animal Crossing is just well.... grr...
conzer16 Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Anyone in Ireland able to get it? is it out in ireland Dunno lads, havent seen it anywhere yet. Will be in Dublin tomorrow will have a look in Easons and the like. Hopefully it is. if its out in england its out in ireland,But u may have to look in EASONS or some big mag store like that Not true. What about the ONM farce....?
