Apple_NdiB Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 A friend and myself have recently been going through the Timesplitters series in co-operative mode, and as we approach the last level we're feeling a bit lost as to what we can play once it's done. What we're after is a game that fits the following criteria: * Can be played in co-operative mode * Is (preferably) an FPS, but we're open to others * Is reasonably challenging and will last a good few gaming seshes * Is on the GameCube Anyone know anything that fits the bill? Cheers.
mike-zim Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 tales of symphonia is a good one. you really get into the games story. but other than that i cant think of one.
Retro_Link Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Some I can think of; Ikaruga - Top Down Shooter with Co-op mode http://uk.cube.ign.com/objects/489/489323.html Conflict Desert Storm 1 - Shooter with 4 player co-op http://uk.cube.ign.com/objects/480/480753.html Conflict Desert Storm 2 - Shooter with 4 player co-op http://uk.cube.ign.com/objects/571/571315.html Starfox Assualt - Space/Land/On-foot Shooter with co-op http://uk.cube.ign.com/objects/481/481615.html Star Wars Rogue Squadron III - Space Shooter with 2 player co-op http://uk.cube.ign.com/objects/546/546759.html I recently played 3 player Conflict Desert Storm and thought it was great!!
Goron_3 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Simply awesome in 2 player.
nekunando Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Not a shooter but Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance provides a decent Cooperative mode.
Hellfire Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Final Fantasy Christal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords Adventures. They're giga fun if you have 2 gbas and cables. As far as FPS go I don't think there's anything like that on GC except for TS.
blender Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Lego starwars is awesome coop. Though quite easy and not FPS... but its lego!
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Nice to see you again, Apple. Conflict Desert Storm/2 sounds quite appealing. It's meant to be a blast in co-op, so it might be right up your street. I may even consider picking it up now.
djamb3 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Phantasy star is a good option too...But tales is excelent. Oh and mario kart sould be also considered. Both players in the same kart is a lot of fun
spirited away Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Phantasy star is a good option too...But tales is excelent. Oh and mario kart sould be also considered. Both players in the same kart is a lot of fun I find that irritating and clumsy.
The3rdChildren Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Is X-Men Legends 2 out on the GameCube? If so, go for that. Brilliant fun.
Zell Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 tales of symphonia is a good one. you really get into the games story. but other than that i cant think of one. Wouldn't really call ToS a full co-op experience, its only co-op for the battles, the main game is 1 player, and since the battles get really tedious and repetitive anyway, you'll get bored. Best co-op games would have to be: Conflict Desert Storm 1 & 2 Four swords Crystal Chronicles Rogue Squadron 3 (doing Endor or Hoth co-op is amazing).
Goron_3 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I'd definately say Four Swords if you have the right equipment, but Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is dead cheap and is simply amazing in co-op. Me and a mate decided to play that because we love co-op games and that is just too good. You should be able to pick it up for about £10.

No more tedious than a regular RPG battle. At least in Tales you can move about and attack freely. However he's right, the co-op in Tales is executed awfully and should be avoided. The camera only focusses on player 1, leaving everyone else off-screen and confused most of the time. It's a shame, because a simple fix could have eliminated the problem.
Marshmellow Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 tales of symphonia is a good one. you really get into the games story. but other than that i cant think of one. i second that tales rocks!

Once you get well into the RPG, you find regular battles chores, which are better done quick with little effort. ToS has a nice system but it eventually gets tiring, I just couldn't be arsed to continuously be tapping directions and A & B after the a thousandth battle, there was no fun in it any more. In a regular RPG (turned based stuff) you can simply get through battles by a few button presses (ie selecting "Attack" over & over), which I found less tedious. An RPG isn't really the best game to include a co-op mode, unless it's an MMO.
Apple_NdiB Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 Star Fox sounds up our street, but no one seems to have a good word to say about it, is it really as bad as everyone seems to make out?
Zell Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Starfox Assault was apparently really badly made (it was developed by Namco not Nintendo). I've never played it, but from all the criticism I've heard, you should avoid. Besides I think multiplayer is versus only.
djamb3 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 From what I heard the controls aren't good, and is too small, but besides that is a funny game. Not worth full price, but if you see it cheaper...
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 You know, i haven't actually come across anyone who's played Starfox Assault. This could be one of those hearsay things, where many people don't purchase the title due to what a few people say. Maybe its worth renting, Apple? So you can find out if its the game for you or not.
Konfucius Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I never found the co-op option in Starfox Assault actually and there was no word of it in the manual but I also though a Co-op option existed. Could someone tell me how to start a coop game? 007 Everything or Nothing has also a very decent coop. Timing is very critical there. I remember playing certain parts to death (many character deaths) but it's quite fun and will last you some time. Also Mario Kart DD is really fun in two player mode especially after playing some time with each other you really get used to what you can expect your mate to do in certain situations and you have to rely more on your mate because you're on the same kart.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 4 swords with 4 friends. Ultimate co-op fun, because it's cooperative and competitive at the same time. I've had lot's of fun with this game. Off-topic question: Retro-link, what's with that UK.cube.com? Where does it differ to the cube.ign.com? Enlight me please.
Zell Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 If you're from the uk, you go to uk.ign.com as opposed to http://www.ign.com which is what the americans go to (it's an american site). It's essentially the same website.
Retro_Link Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Yeah, I still type in http://www.ign.com, but the page loads with the address http://uk.ign.com!
Blue_Ninja0 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Thanks, i think i should be redirected to the UK one too, because, beeing an european, the uk IGN server is much faster than the american one. Guess i'll change my bookmark.
