Pit-Jr Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Billy Madison In league with other classics that i can watch frequently and still love, such as Goonies, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ghostbusters, Shaun of the Dead, etc. 10/10 Essential comedy
Iun Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Australia: 4/10 Someone should tell Baz Luhrman that quirky cinematography does not equate to a good film, nor does having talented leads turn an average story into a good one. And also that 2.5 hour running times should be left to those who can maintain interest over that period.
Beast Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl It were alright, it wasn't bad. Nice to look at but I thought the story was quite weak. Jack Sparrow made it funny though. 7/10 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest The first one was much better, I kept zoning in and out of the movie because it was getting boring. Good thing Keira Knightley is in it. Story wasn't so bad but far from good. Again, Johnny Depp was good. 6/10 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End The longest and the worst of the lot. It was just boring all the way through. The only thing that was good was the visuals and when it ended. I thought the battle was quite good and then... they get married while trying to fight off bad guys? WTF! Possibly the most stupid thing I've seen in a movie. Even Keira Knightley couldn't save this abomination. Even Johnny Depp was pretty bad in it, I wanted to punch him half the time. I won't be watching the fourth (well, I might if I want a laugh) 2/10 The Twilight Saga: New Moon Decided to watch again since one of my friends hadn't watched it. It was crap the second time round. I got bored quick and the acting was possibly the worst acting I've ever seen in my entire life, WHERE WAS THE EMOTION? I still think that Bella sounded like a gorilla when she was having her nightmares. I didn't like the book either but piss me was the movie shite. The only thing that was good was the ending (well, the fight scene) and, of course, Dakota Fanning!!! 3.5/10 Edited January 2, 2010 by Animal
welsh_gamer Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Burn After Reading A very enjoyable film from the Coen brothers with some clever humour and great performances. Ideal if you're looking for something quirky. 7/10

Happenstance Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I remember when I first started watching that movie I was really bored and didnt like it, glad I stuck with it though as by the end I thought it was great.

Paj! Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 No! But I want to. Loved this one, and it's by the same guy (joke, remaking your own film).
Happenstance Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 No! But I want to. Loved this one, and it's by the same guy (joke, remaking your own film). Yeah the US one was a shot for shot remake. I definately prefer the original, I think the performances were a lot better (Except maybe for Tim Roth in the US one), especially the guy who plays Paul in the original, he was awesomely creepy.
darksnowman Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I'm pretty sure if played completely, it's about 4 hours. Almost no productions of Hamlet include the full text though. (Unless I'm making this up...pretty sure I was told that) But yeah, loved the RSC Boxing Day production. Missed the last section unfortunately. Might catch back up with that. Yeah, I'm surprised they would put on a three hour epic on Boxing Day is all. I watched the rest of it today and it was top viewing.
ipaul Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Yeah, but I'd only tell you off if you said something like Casino Royale is film of the decade. You know, something that doesn't deserve it at all (although CR is awesome). TWBB is my film of the decade. But NCFOM is a fucking mastepiece nonetheless and is totally worthy of being thrown in consideration for film of the decade! I have No Country sitting here in front of me. I really should watch it. I really enjoyed Casino Royale as well, but Quantum Of Solace was nowhere near as good. I think it was possibly the worst bond film I have seen, although Die Another Day might get that title.
Beast Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Spirited Away I have this on DVD but it was on BBC2 this morning and I couldn't resist watching again (for possibly the tenth time). It's hard not to fall in love with the animation. It's just so beautiful and the storyline is one of the best I've seen in an anime. 10/10 Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Watched this after. Again, beautiful and the characters and the creatures are stunning to the last detail. 10/10 I feel like digging through all my anime movies again . I have a few on VCR but my player doesn't work no more Edited January 2, 2010 by Animal
spirited away Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 In terms of animated films, it doesn't get any better than Spirited Away. Obviously I'm a little biased, but it truly is a magical story, rich with that japanese eccentricity. The soundtrack is sublime as well!

dwarf Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy I actually really liked this. I was expecting it to be shite, but I did laugh a lot I must say. 8+/10
Wesley Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Gah, I still have nightmares of when Brad Pitt's character's face just before he gets killed *shivers* Niiice spoiler. Nice film, too. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy I actually really liked this. I was expecting it to be shite, but I did laugh a lot I must say. 8+/10 So it could also be a 10/10?
Paj! Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I Could Never Be Your Woman I had never heard of this film..which I found strange, it had so many famous people in it. Michelle Pfieffer, Paul Rudd, the Fonz guy who is also in Arrested Development, Mackenzie Crook, Graham Norton (!) and David Mitchell. Written/directed by the woman who did Clueless. It was strange. I...liked it. An unusual "romantic comedy". It was very well-written, sharp/snappy/whatever. Short too. Nice cinematography. Hmm. Better than I expected, but not amazing. 7/10
dwarf Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Niiice spoiler. Nice film, too. So it could also be a 10/10? Think of it as a B+ grade, Mr Pedantic.
Wesley Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I don't even know what that means. Anccccchor man. Pretty funny/10
Babooo Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Sherlock Holmes Was a good movie but didn't think it was that great. 6.5/10 Seeing Avatar in 3D on Monday so I'm looking forward to that....anyone else notice how packed out the cinema is whenever there's a showing of Avatar? Cos I went to see it last week but the cinema had already sold out! And tonight (when going to see Sherlock) there was a massive queue!
Goafer Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I've decided to rename Sherlock Holmes as "No! Shit Sherlock!" (said in the same tone as scolding a dog). That is all.
dan-likes-trees Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 May as well post my films-of-the-decade, as I did one already. 16 - 500 Days of Summer 15 - The Departed 14 - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly 13 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 12 - Sunshine 11 - Spirited Away 10 - Oldboy 09 - The Prestige 08 - The Motorcycle Diaries 07 - Requiem for a Dream 06 - Lost in Translation 05 - City of God 04 - Amores Perros 03 - High Fidelity 02 - Memento 01 - Donnie Darko But ye. Awesome as. Not certain about the top spot as none of the top ten or so are massivly better than the others.
Roostophe Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 the Fonz guy who is also in Arrested Development Is this what you young people call Henry Winkler now? These kids today don't know anything, man. This one didn't even know what Daddy or Chips was about! Do you see why I hate you now, huh? Not knowing Henry Winkler's name! You disgust me, boy!
