Psycho

One of the few films worthy of the title 'masterpiece'. What Hitchcock did so well is sustained suspense, and Psycho is the examplar of this. Near 50 years later few films rival it for pure suspense. Modern horror films resort to cheap tricks and excessive gore to try to scare the audience. The bloodshed is minimal in Psycho, but less proves more.

*spoilers*

Initially in the film we might sympathise with Norman Bates. In the first scene the camera shot moves through an open window and we witness a young unmarried couple embracing on the bed, with Marion Crane in only her underwear. It's a very voyeuristic scene, and I and expect most men will probably feel some sense of desire for Marion. Later Norman Bates peeps through the hole in the hotel office wall and sees Crane undressing for a shower - the male viewer thus identifies with Norman in his voyeurism, as sickening as that identification may later prove to be.

I also found it interesting when Norman pushes the car into the lake and there is the moment in which it stops sinking and so the roof of the car is still revealed, and we wonder whether the water will fully consume the vehicle. For some reason I wanted that car to carry on sinking, despite that being against the interest of stopping the murderer. At that point of course we're not sure who exactly is responsible for the murder, but even so it's shocking how the film can lead us to identify with Norman Bates' predicament and sense of shame at that time.

He's Just Not That Into You

I thought this was going to be pretty shit, or at very best okay/watchable/has its moments. I was pretty wrong tbh. I ended up loving the shit out of it. Many characters, but all of them and their situations are excellent. Just excellent. Chick flicky a bit, but yeah it was totally awesome. Scarlett Joohahannfahsson.....I didn't realise how curvey she was before. Also amazing breasts. Shes practically...in fact no, she does the perfect body.

It kinda is yeah. I don't want to ruin anything about it but yeah. Thought it really was great. Best chick flick I've ever seen. Hmmm. I fully endorse it though. It is very feel-good-y. :)

So I probably won't like it then?! :p Although I do love Love Actually, it's fantastic.

The Guardian review of that film is genius

I haven't heard the best things about it, either. I enjoyed Love Actually for what it was...but the only really good bits were Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman's parts.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Most enjoyable and a very well made film. Impressive acting from everyone, the special effects were very good, there were MANY emotional moments and laugh out loud situations also, and there's wasnt any pointless or scene's that dragged on. Forrest Gump for the new generation of movie-goers.

8.5/10

Heh, Flinky actually compared it to Forrest Gump as well. It's not like it's exactly the same, or even the same quality (I do prefer Forrest Gump), but in a way they are similar (as in how it's all about one person's life).

Was an interesting film, and I really enjoyed it. Good performances. And there were some really nice moments in the film (I loved the ones with the sunsets), as well as some great music. =)

I hope it's not much like Forest Gump because I don't like that film, but am interested in seeing this.

Not really. The only thing that is similar is that it tells a person's entire life story. Sort of.

Sunshine

Had this sitting on my shelf for a while and decided to finally watch it after taking interest in Danny Boyle again with the hype surrounding Slumdog.

Good film, great deep space atmosphere to the whole thing with good audio and visual design to go with it. Story takes some pretty predictable directions but for the most part it works well and the characters are interesting enough. Gets a bit dodgy towards the end going down a really easy route storytelling wise but eh it still has a decent enough ending.

Glad it's not only me then! :awesome:

There were quite a few similaraties, such as it was all about his life, it dealt with life and death, the main character inspired people he met, Benjamin had a special relationship with his 'mother' and he was in love with his childhood sweetheart just like FG. Both men went to war, were considered freaks and both were also involved with a boat in someway :heh:

Also the humming-bird reminded me of the flying feather from FG in a way.

Forrest Gump is defintley more re-watcahble than Curious Case I'd say.

Hmm I wouldn't mind seeing this just because Ginnifer Goodwin is made of so much win it hurts.

Quantum of Solace

After Casino Royale was such a pleasant return to form I suppose it was too much to ask for two good films in a row in such an inconsistent franchise. Much of what was excellent about Royale is undone in this film, most noticeably Royale's emphasis on character development and its more sophisticated pace. I understand they wanted to make a more action-orientated film, but it's hard to be generous even if assessing the film on its own terms, with much of the action set pieces rendered unsatisfying by some irritating cinematography (the 'shaky-cam' fad needs to die). Bringing in Marc Forster was supposed to give an arty edge to Bond, but all we got in the way of art was some empty symbolism. Next time they ought to get Martin Campbell back and get a damn good screenplay.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Didn't have my full attention due to various people joining/leaving/phone calls/low volume.

Really liked it though...it was interesting. I love how Kate Winslet, when transported to the 60's, defined when L'Amour looks like someone.

(I actually quite liked BB, so bear that in mind whilst reading the following)

Forrest Gump is leaps better. Let's put it this way: Forrest Gump is the type of movie we're still talking about 15 years after it came out... BB won't be. And I loved BB! David Fincher is actually one of my favourite contemporary directors.

I hope it's not much like Forest Gump because I don't like that film

I feel like killing you, right now. No offense, but I do.

As I mentioned previously I hadn't come across her before, but shes awesome. Very stunning/cute/sexu, her character is nice. I'm insulted that on the trailer shes not listed as one of the actors, because shes practically the main character. Thats showbusiness.

She's barely on the poster, either. I nthe big montage, everyone else is there. I noticed she is actually placed beside the title, but it's easy to miss whilst everyone stares at Jennifer Aniston etc.
