Nintendo Direct: The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2nd trailer - 29th November

From the first few seconds of the “Mario, Mario” chanting reminiscent of the original Super Mario Bros 3 commercial I was won over by the various nods and Easter Eggs contained in this trailer.

Looking forward to reading up on the huge number I will have missed.

Overall impressions from me are positive again from this.  Whether you like their films or not, this has struck me as very much an Illumination movie.

Continues to look incredible.

Mario seems a bit more of a goof than we're used to but obv that's prob just the usual hero's journey thing.

Bit worried we'll end up seeing the whole film in trailers and clips by the time it releases so I might try and not watch any more till release.

But yeah, as a Nintendo fan, hard to ask for better than that!

Can't help but notice that half of those spoilered images has the "character folds arms and looks sassily at the camera" thing that kids movie promotion loves to do.

I hate that I've had that pointed out to me ages ago, because now I see it everywhere.

The broadness of Mario, while not surprising given the studio and the voice actor, is looking to be the most annoying part but at least Peach seems to be far more interesting. Also not really feeling the cross-eyed Kong but by no means a big issue.

Although I am confused that Bowser described Mario as a human and thus out of place but what does that make Peach?

Looks like it's going to be an Easter egg filled movie.

And i feel like Seth Rogan was just showing off his view.

Well she certainly won the deformation lottery

It's an elegant form of natural selection, really. Either that, or being able to use magic without magic wands warps your bodily proportions over time... I haven't quite figured that out yet...

BTW, before anyone asks, Daisy isn't a Toad, she's a normal person. Sarasaland is a whole different thing. They have planes!

See in the games I've always just accepted humans are a thing in the mushroom kingdom, there just aren't many, but now the movie has made me doubt everything.

I'm guessing we're getting another two trailers before release, each about 6 weeks apart (maybe a bit more because of Christmas). Guess the next one will feature the voice actors for Luigi and Toad and then maybe just a general one?

Although given we didn't hear DK speak in my head he's going to sound like he did in Marge Be Not Proud.

And speaking of he seems to be peak himbo in this film:

I had my suspicions confirmed when New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe happened. Toadette picks up a crown stuffed with magic power, and just happens to transform into a Peach-like entity? Yeah, it's magic. Magic that makes her look like that. Except Toadette gets a temporary artificial burst of magic, similar to how Mario uses it, while Peach and Bowser's is hereditary.
