Didn’t Double Dragon slow down ridiculously on the arcade version? Can’t remember it doing back in the 80s but I was a kid back then and the game was the coolest thing ever. 
Played a MAME emulation a few years ago and it slowed to a crawl every time there were more than 2 enemies on the screen. 

Yep, the slowdown in Double Dragon on all versions is significant. How does the ACA Switch version hold up? Slowdown, as expected?

There's quite a lot, especially on Stage 4, but my best guess is it's exactly the same as the coin-op.  Only really a problem when you've got a lot of Abobos or Willy!

Just like Glen-i, the game doesn't really appeal to me, or I would have bought it on Steam already. It does to some extent, I absolutely love the style, but I suspect the gameplay is just going to frustrate and/or bore me.

I don't get this from the ACA series. I'm all for accurate arcade ports, but does that really need to include the slowdown? They should get rid of that, and at most include it as an option.

Anyway, Double Dragon isn't for me, despite the panty shot :D. It looks even harder than the NES version, and I have no nostalgia feelings towards it, as I've never played the arcade version.

Well, I think they emulate the hardware, and then the original code runs on it without tweaking.  This way, they have been able to supply Neo Geo games in particular every week without actually having to port them.  I do agree in principle though.  How long it would take to get rid of the slowdown, I don't know, but if they could do it, an option would be appreciated.

Fair enough. :D I still think it's a good game though.  Whereas Double Dragon 4 simulated the NES style (complete with floaty jumps), I think Arcade Archives Double Dragon holds up as a fast and entertaining experience.

That 75% sale on Oxenfree, bought it at 3.99, was a wise move from the developer, certainly got them exposure.  And, I just finished my first playthrough, too.  Are there multiple endings with this, the one I saw was OK but nothing special, plus I'd like to play again, if it has multiple endings I may play sooner rather than later.

While it's good that more Switch users picked up Oxenfree, it's a dangerous precedence to set for indie games if people are only going to invest when they're heavily discounted. It might be a win for the devs in terms of the number of sales but the money they'll have made will be a fraction of what they could have made (and in the case of Oxenfree, should have made given how good the game is). It's part of the problem with indie game sales on PS4 and Xbox One at the moment: lots of gamers waiting for games to drop through a heavy discount or to eventually appear on PS+ or Games for Gold.

The port may have had it's issues but it's probably bittersweet for the devs with this one. And as I say, it's potentially a slippery slope for indie games on the Switch if that's what it took for the likes of Oxenfree to do well. Sure, developers are coming out to say their indie games are outperforming other platforms on the Switch  in terms of sales but you have to wonder how long it'll be before the bubble will burst, especially on the back of this. Not saying it's going to just cliff dive from here but it something like Oxenfree should have done better than it did without the need for a heavy discount.

Personally, I thought it was a fantastic game and easily one of my favourite indie titles of the last couple of years but if you don't connect with the characters and the overarching narrative, it's a hard sell. I will say that if Oxenfree didn't click, @Dog-amoto, I'm not sure whether Night in the Woods would either. They do share similar ideas, though Night in the Woods does do a good job of being funny with a lot of dark humour. It's a fantastic game, one of my favourites from last year, so people should definitely check it out but I'd maybe not if you didn't take to Oxenfree.

It’s not that I disliked it, far from it. I actually enjoyed listening to the characters’ ramblings and enjoyed the story, actually creeped me out a few times. There just wasn’t much there from a gameplay perspective. Just walking around and occasionally tuning the radio were the only ways to progress as far as I can remember.

This is exactly why I didn’t get Oxenfree and have no intention of getting Night in the Woods either (despite really liking the artstyle/vibe of that particular game) because there just doesn’t seem to be any compelling gameplay at all. :blank: I’ve nothing against these narrative heavy, choose your own adventure style games, but they’re simply not for me.

I tried one of them again recently on PS+ and was so unbelievably bored by the experience that I was literally falling asleep! All you do is walk around and listen to conversations. At the point when gameplay becomes that trivial I might as well be reading a book or watching a film. ::shrug:

That's a big worry for sure and just to clarify my earlier post about waiting for a discount, 95% of the indie games on my Switch I bought at full price, so far and will likely continue to do so. More often than not (ahem, Cave Story) the games are absolutely worth the full price and so the devs deserve that much at least. Oxenfree I had almost zero intention of ever playing it, but at a few quid, they made an extra sale. Same with Night in the Woods, I just don't think I'll enjoy the gameplay enough to buy it full price. I get your wider more long term concerns though, hopefully it's not a slippery slope. I hear a lot of "I'll wait for it to come out on PS+" comments from people.

I got Oxenfree immediately because I already knew (I thought that)  it was great. But I absolutely get why it wouldn't interest other people because it's a fact there's very little actual gameplay. But personally I don't mind the interactive story once in a while, I used to be a fan of Telltale games as well (before they got worse and worse). And I think the atmosphere and story and dialogue in Oxenfree are simply fantastic.

So it should be no surprise I bought Night in the woods day 1 as well, it seems to be right up my alley. I've hardly played it as of yet, the film festival was in the way, but I played enough to see it's very similar to Oxenfree regarding "gameplay".

I also bought Furi, specifically for the festival, as something to play during breaks between films, but I didn't get to play it that often actually. I enjoyed what I played so far, but I'll post in its topic when I have more impressions.

Lastly, I'll buy Dandara tonight, and this will be the first time of me making use of the pre-download option. I'm not sure if I'm still under NDA, I guess it doesn't matter now with the game close to being released. I've played the beta on Steam, but unfortunately didn't play it that much either.. It was bad timing, as it released just before Super Mario Odyssey being released. But my impressions of it are good. Not perfect, I have some issues with gameplay elements, but I don't know if some of those are a non-issue if you play the whole game. But I suspect they are. Basically I have a problem with the upgrade system not being balanced (certain upgrades being much more important than others), and I wasn't a fan of the lack of savepoints. That said, I enjoyed the very unusual movement and combat, and the artstyle, music, and general atmosphere are fantastic. The game has a dreamy quality to it.

Oh I forgot. Not sure if this had an NDA, I never saw any mention of it, apart from the request not to stream / upload it, but I also played the beta of Arena of Valor, this time actually on the Switch. It was the first time I used a code. This was also badly timed, right during the festival, but again, it was incredible to simply be playing an online multiplayer game right in the cinema, while I'm waiting for the next film. Anyway, it was enjoyable from what I've played (which isn't much), though I suspect it doesn't have much long-term appeal. I must say though, I don't have much experience with Mobas, but it was similar enough to what I'm familar with (which is Demigod), and it did scratch that itch. So I'm definitely interested in the game.

Edit: Oh, and I see Owlboy is available, so I guess I'll be pre-ordering that as well. After taking a break for most of January, I guess it's back to buying games again. That's several for February, I'm also getting the Bayonetta combo.

I love stoeybgames with not much gameplay. I loved gone home. And journey. And many others. 

My problem with oxenfree was I found the characters a little annoying, all a bit too teen angst for my tastes,  and the overarching story not interesting or engaging enough. Some nice elements every so often though. 

Night in the woods appeals to me a lot more. Sounds a little more sophisticated and complex in its characters and themes, so hoping it works for me much better. But I’ll wait for a sale.

i just reviewed Wulverblade for the Switch, and anyone that loves 2D side-scrolling beat 'em ups should jump at it.  It released last November and received great reviews all round, and I second them.  There's this beauty to the brutality and the fluid motion of balancing blocks and attacks just feels old-school Arcade while taking the premise a step further.  Also the attention to detail in the history sets this apart from other games of its ilk.  If you like Golden Axe, or even Final Fight, then this is a must have.

Good. Guess I'll be skipping the digital version this month in that case (and good that I haven't pre-ordered it yet).

I'm a bit annoyed by the physical releases of indie games long after their digital release.. I vowed to get as many physical versions possible, but I'm not sure if I'll buy the likes of Wonderboy and Overcooked, for example. I mean, I want them, but money's also better spent on other things.
