Club Nintendo Discontinued ( Get Flipnote 3D For Free! )

Hero-of-Time

Recommended Posts

Nintendo’s first loyalty programmes, VIP 24:7 and Club Member, started in May 2002, and were combined in December 2007 to become Club Nintendo. Over the years, players have enjoyed the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms, and countless software titles across them all. We’ve also heard the feedback and opinions of around six million Club Nintendo members across Europe and South Africa, which we have used to help shape our business.

We’re working hard to create a new programme, which we plan to launch later this year. And as a special offer, users who sign up to the new programme during the launch period will be able to download Flipnote Studio 3D to a Nintendo 3DS system for free. Please stay tuned to the Nintendo website for further details.

This new membership programme will replace Club Nintendo, so we will discontinue Club Nintendo according to the schedule given below. Thank you for all your support.

As Stars in your account will expire on September 30th 2015, please make sure you use them before this date. There are plenty of unique and exclusive items already available in the Stars Catalogue, and we’ll keep adding more over the coming months, so there’s plenty to spend your Stars on before September 30th 2015.

Please stay tuned for more information about the new membership programme, including its launch date.

Club Nintendo Discontinuation Schedule

April 1st 2015: From this date, Nintendo will no longer include product registration cards with its packaged games, so such products cannot be registered in Club Nintendo. You may still find product registration cards in games that were in stock before this date, however.

April 20th 2015: Termination of the registration of digital products downloaded from Nintendo eShop. Digital products obtained from Nintendo eShop after this date will no longer appear in the My Registered Games & Systems page in Club Nintendo. In addition, surveys for download software titles will no longer be available.

September 30th 2015: End of Club Nintendo programme. All Club Nintendo features, such as signing up as a new member, logging in as a registered member, earning Stars, and exchanging Stars for items from the Stars Catalogue will no longer be possible from this date.

New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL

These new handheld systems, which will be released on February 13th 2015, are not registerable in Club Nintendo. However, hardware bundles will still include a product registration card for the included software until April 1st 2015, so software bundled with hardware can still be registered until September 30th 2015.

Stars

Please exchange any Stars in your account for items from the Stars Catalogue before September 30th 2015. Any Stars not used by this date will be lost, so be sure to use them as soon as possible. There are plenty of unique and exclusive items already available in the Stars Catalogue, and we’ll keep adding more over the coming months, so there’s plenty to spend your Stars on before September 30th 2015.

Its been suspected that this would happen for a while now. Star points expiry dates were being pushed further and further forward. I wonder what it will be replaced with?

The Flipnote 3D thing should make a few people on here happy. *points to @RedShell*

Wow, was both expecting and not really expecting this. Hope the new system is better than the current one with more unified Worldwide rewards available.

I have about 20 sets of stars sitting around to redeem before they expire. Haven't done it sooner due to the horrors of those surveys.

Wonder what the super awesome final available gift will be. Might be something worth saving your stars for perhaps, but probably not.

Maybe this will end up being a continuation of the Nintendo Network Premium discount service. Wouldn't mind that at all.

US info...

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After more than six years of delivering fun Nintendo-themed rewards to its members, Club Nintendo is preparing to shut down. Nintendo’s loyalty-rewards program rewarded members with a variety of items, such as downloadable games, Nintendo posters or character figures in exchange for Coins that members earned by registering products or completing surveys. Club Nintendo members in the United States and Canada can earn additional Coins through the end of March, and can redeem those Coins through the end of June. Nintendo of America will be announcing a new customer loyalty program at a later date.

“We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

Nintendo will add a number of physical reward options for members in February. Members will also be able to choose from a lineup of many downloadable games. As a gift to Club Nintendo members, the Flipnote Studio 3D software will be available to download for free in February. This software will allow users to create unique three-dimensional animations and to exchange their creations via local wireless with others who also own Flipnote Studio 3D. Users who uploaded creations to Flipnote Hatena will be able to download their personal animations from the Nintendo DSi Library menu in Flipnote Studio 3D software. Flipnote Studio 3D will be available to Club Nintendo members until June 30. The ability to create a new Club Nintendo account will end on March 31. All users who register to Club Nintendo before registration closes will be eligible to receive Flipnote Studio 3D.

So it looks like we're getting Flipnote 3D next month! :D

I've got a ton of un-registered games but I'm gonna save my stars though. I bet that they're saving something special for the very last reward...

Whatever the new system is, it can't be much worse than the current one. The survey process is a total nightmare!! (hence why I have so many games unregistered, it's just a complete PITA!)

Please integrate it properly with the NNID service and implement it properly on the consoles themselves instead of the hacky solutions you've been using for over a decade now!!

Oh and BTW, this is going to be something major. It's something that Nintendo have been planning for some time now...

As we continue to redefine our platforms from a device-based system to an account-based system using NNIDs, we will also try to change the way in which dedicated video game systems as well as software are sold that people have come to take for granted.

The way in which dedicated video game systems and their software are sold has not changed significantly since the business model of dedicated video game platforms was first established 30 years ago. Dedicated video game systems are sold for two hundred or three hundred dollars, on which standalone software titles are distributed for 30 or 50 dollars. This simple model received widespread support from consumers that enabled us to create today’s market. The decision to change it is the manifestation of our recognition that we cannot expect this model to work forever amid dynamic changes in people’s lifestyles.

If we succeed in the redefinition of video game platforms that I speak of today, our account-based connections with consumers will become very clear. For example, until now it has been taken for granted that software is offered to users at the same price regardless of how many titles they purchase in a year, be it one, five or even ten titles. Based on our account system, if we can offer flexible price points to consumers who meet certain conditions, we can create a situation where these consumers can enjoy our software at cheaper price points when they purchase more. Here, we do not need to limit the condition to the number of software titles they purchase. Inviting friends to start playing a particular software title is also an example of a possible condition. If we can achieve such a sales mechanism, we can expect to increase the number of players per title, and the players will play our games with more friends. This can help maintain the high usage ratio of a platform. When one platform maintains a high active use ratio, the software titles which run on it have a higher potential to be noticed by many, which leads to more people playing with more titles. When we see our overall consumers, they generally play two or three titles per year. We aim to establish a new sales mechanism that will be beneficial to both consumers and software creators by encouraging our consumers to play more titles and increasing a platform’s active use ratio without largely increasing our consumers’ expenditures.

Nintendo aims to work on this brand-new sales mechanism in the medium term, but we would like to start experimenting with Wii U at an early stage.

... So yeah. This has been in the making for some time and is a major point of contact for Nintendo's future...

So I expect great things from this! :D

Ooh! I just had an idea...

What if this new NNID based system also gave you discounts from the Official Nintendo Store!? That would be awesome!! :D

I would hope that they will still be giving out physical goods, as well as digital discounts, so using their own online store seems like a perfect solution to me! (Likewise, the U.S. already has Nintendo World and Japan have the Pokemon Centres, so it's just a matter of making better use of what they already have!)

Some stuff could still be made exclusive to those who meet certain criteria as well, but that sounds like a much better solution than the current system!

Really disappointed. I know the offers were a bit pants but at least it was something. :-(

Don't know why you're upset... The current Club Nintendo system is getting replaced with something else, not just removed. You're still gonna get rewards and offers, just through a much more streamlined process!

Yeah, I've got a shitload of unregistered Club Nintendo codes too, but that survey... :shakehead

Would be nice if they got rid of the survey now, and made a special page where you can just input as many CN codes as you like to instantly claim the stars for them. :hehe:

Anyway, Flipnote 3D at last! :yay:

Re: FLipnote. I wouldn't get too excited yet. Ours specifically says it'll be free singing up to the new scheme. In US it says it's a reward for Club Nintendo members. So it sounds like we're going to get screwed to me!

Anyways, amazing news, Club Nintendo was never quite good enough, sorting that out, offering more buying incentives for us nutters who buy too much (might hold off buying much more until the new scheme is announced) and tying all this with a proper eshop app/site away from the devices and such would all be super!!

How are we getting screwed? Everyone gets it for free, just sign up for the new system. It'll just be New Club Nintendo

I could just as easily say why are you so optimistic? We're losing something we know works, and all the accrued points, to be replaced with something unproven.

If they want to fix an online service they need to sort out the NNID system first. Being tied to only one console/handheld is really starting to bite me now and I refuse to buy any retail games via download on the Wii U purely because of that.

Because the current system works really badly and has been in desperate need of a complete do-over for over a decade now! I mean, for Christ's sake! The current global Club Nintendo system is built on top of the very original UK only Nintendo VIP 24/7 (anyone else remember that one?) system that began in May 2002! The backend that powers Club Nintendo is almost 13 years old!!

The associated websites are disjointed (log-ins on top of log-ins... ugh...), perform badly and tend to be very glitchy, are inconsistent across regions and are generally very much cobbled together by string and Pritt Stick glue (have you ever tried to do a batch of surveys at once? You're talking at least an hour for just a dozen or so, and that's if you get lucky where it doesn't just crash and you lose all of your progress - where the website glitches out and assumes you've already filled out the survey, but doesn't give you any stars!)

Look at what the Digital Deluxe Promotion was like! Consistent across all regions, no glitches, automatically detected all Wii U purchases (regardless of the purchase method used), great performance across all devices, always perfectly reliable and based on a single NNID log-in (it even showed your Mii correctly!). Imagine what it would be like if Club Nintendo worked half as well as the DDP site did! :D

Aside from the Club closure.....could this have any impact on accounts our 3DS's WiiU's? normally i'd think unlinking a club nintendo account from our main account wouldn't be a problem.....but this is Nintendo they aren't well versed in accounts and their management, i mean purchases on the store all linked to the club in some crazy system of nintendo tubes....i can see potential for something unseen and unthought of to go wrong

Wonder when i should redeem all my stars? July/August? or sooner they surely wouldn't tell people to use them and then launch as Serebii trolled, a mewto amiibo in July/August would they? would they?

Well, i currently have a little over 6000 stars registered, plus I've not entered Captain Toad or Smash brothers codes yet. I'd like to get something before they get deleted later this year, but I honesty can't find anything on there I actually want. I wish they would get that Luigi's mansion diorama back

Seems to me like they are at least moving towards a proper account system using the NNIDs. Making a universal system for every region will fix some of the current issues that's preventing it now.

No, because all of your purchases are tracked via your NNID. This new system will be making use of the data stored on your NNID account, just like the Digital Deluxe Promotion site, which worked perfectly fine and had nothing to do with Club Nintendo.

Possibly, but I'm holding onto mine as long as possible, just in case anyway ::shrug:

Can't say I'll miss Club Nintendo in its current guise. Like others here, I've a tonne of unused Club Nintendo points for Wii, DS and Wii U games. I hope the new system doesn't bar older games. It just wasn't worth the time and effort filling in all the surveys for crappy rewards and the expiry thing was annoying. I still have about 1,500 in my account that I'll need to buy something with now. Also, other members have mentioned Disneys reward programme and it's far better than Nintendo's.

It does. It has said so. Many Wii/DS ones have expired now as it is, anyway.

Did people actually do the surveys correctly? I just ticked the first box I could see and then put 1 letter answers for the other stuff. Flew through them doing it this way.

Which made them totally pointless.

I know Nintendo wanted the market research but there should of been a choice to basically not take part in the survey if one didn't want too.
