My cousin and I have spent the last hour drawing Mario's messed up face and posting the results to Miiverse.

Way too many laughs have been had.

(Haven't actually started the game yet.)

One of my mates is picking a Wii U today due the N64 being added to the VC. I text him yesterday saying DK64 has launched with the service and he instantly booked a Wii U to collect at Argos.

He loves DK64 and hasn't played it since he was a kid. It was a bad move on my part really as he spent the most of the day texting me bits from the DK Rap. :D

Two more VC games just got rated by the Australian Board!

Drill Dozer for Wii U

- The Adventures of Bayou Billy on Wii U or 3DS

Well well well! Looks like Konami is still digging deeper into their classic library! :D (I wonder if it'll still support the Zapper... Don't see why not...)

The N64 library is the one where i'm most interested in as I missed so many games due to being a little kid and the games being so expensive.

DK64 is a game that I missed.

Due to backlog issues I had no intention to pick up SM64. I couldn't help myself though.

Though I don't agree with the pricing of pretty much all the content on the VC, I am reminded of the N64 days and the crazy prices some of the games were. It wasn't that uncommon to see games like Donkey Kong 64, Conkers Bad Fur Day and Banjo Tooie for £100 and that's 100 of the old Irish punt which today in Euro is €127. That was madness back then. I think I even remember once seeing Conkers Bad Fur Day for £120 but it was a rare(Rare, get it) game to find in Ireland. It might seem like a bargain in comparison to back then but N64 games have not aged well and €10 for 15 year old plus games I feel is wrong. Super Mario 64 is nearly 20 years old. I still have it somewhere and my N64 so I've no need for it.

I can remember handing over £60 in cold, hard, cash to Game when Conker's Bad Fur Day originally came out which was expensive then but being that the cartridge alone can now sell for £100 and a complete boxed copy for £150 or more...

I don't feel too bad in retrospect. ;)

I cant see the original Mario Party coming out. That game destroyed N64 controller sticks and repairing a GamePad ain't cheap.

It didn't destroy control sticks...it destroyed hands. My N64 control sticks are fine...my friend's hand, however, has a bit of scar tissue still :p

Is that really all Nintendo released on the N64? It isn't great is it. Stuff was amazing for it's time - golf, tennis, kart, F zero, Wave Race, smash etc But feel like they've all been bettered since (except tennis)... I'd buy Excitbike 64 in a flash, Paper Mario too, Kirby probably, maybe even Pokemon Puzzle League but that's it.

What Gamecube games did they do? Quite like these lists Serebii!

Out of stuff I never played back on the N64, I'd definitely pick up Tetrisphere and Excitebike 64. F-Zero X is an instant purchase if they release the 60hz version.

Other very unlikely games I'd really like to see on there, Snowboard Kids 2 and Bomberman 64 2.

Is there any way to change the aspect ratio? DK64 has a widescreen option, but doesn't display in widescreen. You can't force your TV to view it like that as the image already is widescreen (with borders).

Some of the Rare ones that Microsoft don't care about (Blast Corps?) may be possible.

Sadly it doesn't look like there's any anamorphic widescreen option :(

A shame really because a few N64 games did support it (like DK64...)

Wish the controls weren't so loose.

Any tips for flying? I can't get the red coins in the red switch stage. Last I played the game was SM64DS and I think I had trouble back then as well.

Yeah, flying has always been a little tricky ( see @Blade Miiverse post :D ). Best thing I can say is to just slightly move the control stick. Rubbish advice, I know. :(

I can't believe Donkey Kong 64 is on the Virtual Console, and it has the Rare logo (and other Rare content) within. I guess Nintendo struck a deal with them to get this out, even though Nintendo own the characters, don't Rare own the code?

It's not the first time. All 3 Donkey Kong Country games sport the Rare logo.

What amazes me is that the Jetpac arcade game is fully intact there.

How did that happen?

Super FX has a host of both emulation and licensing issues. That's why Yoshi's Island has only been made available through the GBA port which removes the Super FX chip requirement.

Incidentally, NES is pretty much done, too, with just a handful of titles remaining

F-1 Race - Unlikely due to license

Wild Gunman

Hogan's Alley

Kung-Fu Master - Unlikely due to the license (was based on a Jackie Chan movie)

Stack-up - Unlikely due to needing R.O.B.

Gyromite - Unlikely due to needing R.O.B.

Gumshoe

Nazo no Murasame Jo

Pro Wrestling

Slalom - Actually unsure about this. Was made by Rare.

Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race - Japan Only

Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally - Japan Only

R.C. Pro-Am - Same as Slalom

Famicom Wars - Japan Only

Tetris - Licensing

Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir - Japan only

Cobra Triangle - Same as Slalom

Mother - Japan Only

Barker Bill's Trick Shooting - Licensing issues

NES Play Action Football - North America only

Star Tropics

Snake Rattle 'n' Roll - Same as Slalom & Mattel Licensing issues

Pin-Bot - Same as Slalom

Nintendo World Cup - Japan Only

Time Twist: On the Outskirts of History... - Japan Only

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light - Japan Only

Fire Emblem Gaiden - Japan Only

Yoshi's Cookie - Weird licensing issues

Joy Mech Fight - Japan Only

Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II

Total remaining eligible first party titles outside Japan: 6

What's wrong with Pro-wrestling? I loved that game?
