nekunando Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Also, if your PS4 is not being used, then I'm going to assume that you've gone full retard and are playing something other than The Witcher 3, which is hands down the best game of this year/decade/millennium. Disregard whatever else it is that you're playing, get on dat Witcher 3 time and come back to us in about six months after you've been admitted to rehab as a result of your addiction to this beauty. After all your raving I decided to go and check out some videos of The Witcher 3. I honestly can't muster any desire for it I guess that's when you know a PS4 isn't for you

Asshole. :p I love you. just one month will suffice How much freetime do you have? Edited July 28, 2015 by drahkon
S.C.G Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 How much free time do you have? I only "work" for 24 hours a week as my paid employment, but a lot of my free time goes towards writing reviews for this site which mostly involves playing games that I wanted to play anyway which I why I still play a lot on Nintendo platforms. It won't always be this way, I need to find extra paid work really - though I never plan to give up writing for N-E as I enjoy it - but technically I could devote 12 hours to The Witcher 3 if I were to not write anything today as it's my day off but we shall see what happens. Personally I'd consider it an achievement if I even started playing it again today, it might happen... tell me this though please, do you know if most of the glitches have been fixed yet with patches? If they have then I'd be more likely to give it a go later. : peace:
Jimbob Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I set my PS4 as Primary, so it's on standby most of the time. Downloads updates, games and DLC whilst i'm out and about, so i don't have to sit and wait for it to finish.
nekunando Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Check out Final Fantasy XIV or Bloodborne or something.. Those are genuinely even less appealing
drahkon Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 tell me this though please, do you know if most of the glitches have been fixed yet with patches? If they have then I'd be more likely to give it a go later. : peace: Haven't played in weeks But looking at recent patch notes the game has been improved a lot regarding bugs/glitches. Certain features have been added as well (e.g. alternative movement for Geralt, UI improvements, inventory improvements, STASH!!!) With the addition of NG+ soon, the game has been improved on many levels, so it's safe to say that it's even better now than it was on release.
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 While you make some good points brah, one does not simply disregard 3D Streets of Rage II which I have one more play-through left to go, after that I'll consider getting back into The Witcher 3 which admittedly I need to spend a lot more time with. I won't need six months though, just one month will suffice, that should be enough time to realistically devote to a game of such scope, providing it has now been patched to rid it of the majority of its - to be expected in fairness - multitude of glitches which would otherwise hamper my enjoyment of it. Add another month for all of the DLC most likely as and when it arrives which I'm glad will all be free. Rocket League will be played between The Witcher 3 play sessions. : peace: Fuark, I'll be impressed if you can do it within a month whilst tackling the secondary quests and contracts. After all your raving I decided to go and check out some videos of The Witcher 3. nekunando Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 What don't you like about it? Experience, as much as anything, tells me that it just isn't for me. Gaming for over two decades gives you a decent grasp of what you look for in a game and what gets you excited There are obviously exceptions, Splatoon being a supreme example of that recently, but it's like how if you go to rent a suit and the tailor knows your size without even having to measure you. You can often just tell whether a game is right for you or not. Considering I'm enjoying playing things like Wii Sports Club, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 as well as the games in Wii Fit Plus, The Witcher 3 would be quite a departure from those sorts of experiences! Maybe it's too hardcore for me these days and I have no real desire to sink my teeth into something like that. Is casual becoming my core..?
Daft Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 If it helps, I fucking detest fantasy games and the Witcher 3 is superb.

Looking at the games that you're currently playing, you could say that they're quite "light-hearted" games, so having something darker in contrast could help to strike a balance. I think going off experience can be a dangerous thing at times, since it immediately means you're closing the door on certain things without really giving them a chance. Going on past experiences of what I do know I like, I should hate Bloodborne and it shouldn't even be a game that I would consider. Yet, it's one of my favourite games this year. There's a lot to be said for branching out and trying different things because that's how you find the new "classics".

I totally get that and I agree, for the most part There are some games where you just know, though, and it definitely wouldn't be a good idea for me to go out and buy a PS4 just to see if it somehow wins me over
Daft Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 If in doubt, wait until it's cheaper. That's been my mantra recently and because of that I've had a blast with The Order and Dying Light. In a weird way, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed them as much at launch; maybe a mixture of the price and not living up to 'hype'; but for a good price and in a no-hype context, they've been pretty outstanding games.
drahkon Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Currently downloading N++. Apparently an insanely difficulty platformer. Can't wait. :awesome: Edit: Haven't even played a single level and I can say...GOTY. Sorry Geralt. That's Numberwang! Edited July 29, 2015 by drahkon
Shorty Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Seeking a recommendation: I played the first 5-10 mins of Journey on PS3 at some point and it didn't grab me at all. Should I give it another go?

Should I give it another go?I'd say so, yeah. It only takes around an hour to finish anyway, and can be pretty special if you manage to get through it in a single session with another player.
Retro_Link Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 An hour!? You're keen :p Took me 2-3 I'd say. But damn those were some of the best hours of gaming.

somme Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Took me about 2-3 hours as well. Wasn't as amazing as I thought it was going to be, but was very refreshing, fun and moving.
Shorty Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Oh, I didn't know it was that short. Can't really justify that price tag then.

I played through the entire game and it didn't grab me I definitely intend to play it again at some point to see if I somehow missed the magic of it first time around but, from my point of view, it seemed vastly overrated. I guess it isn't for everyone
Daft Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 It depends on who you bump into on your journey, I found. If I were you I'd just wait until it was on sale. Or not pick it up. It's a great game but it's one that involves - to be utterly reductive - pushing forward on the analogue stick. What I would say is that it does pick up pace as you go through, so the first three areas do feel the slowest. It quickly sweeps you up, though.
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) I did. I'll skip Journey then. Couldn't resist bringing that up. UP. UPPPP. As for Journey, I loved it, although it's difficult to explain why. To me, it was an interesting and (at times) a magical adventure. In terms of the gameplay, it's very, very simple. It's not got a long play-time, but I don't think it could really have been much longer without it being detrimental to that experience. If you played it for a bit and it didn't grab you, I don't think it'll be something you'll enjoy. Funny enough, if the opening segment of UP didn't leave you bawling like a baby, you're not going to be a fan of it at the end of the film either. It's very similar to that. The game has a way of making you feel invested in the visuals, sound, the world (or...lack of it at times, I guess), and if those components don't grab you, then it's probably not worth the money atm. If it comes up as a free PS+ game, I'd give it a try and maybe (in the right mood) it'll become a bit more magical for you. Had I played Journey on a bad day, I think I could have hated it.
