Maybe they're not "refusing to buy the Wii U" as much as they simply...don't want it? ::shrug:

I think it's possible that Japan are losing interest in home consoles, concentrating more on handhelds. Look at the amount of Japanese games released recently on the 3DS and Vita compared to home consoles.

And then there are Sony and Microsoft. The Xbox One is out in North America, Europe, Asutralia and Brazil before Japan and as for the PS4, all these places get the PS4 this year:

North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, South East Asia, South Africa and India

Japan is getting it in February 2014.

I always thought that Sony isn't releasing the PS4 in Japan until 2014 simply because they don't need to. The Xbox One won't be out there to compete with, and the PS4 will do well in Japan regardless of when its released, so they can put their efforts (and consoles) into other territories.

Microsoft also aren't releasing in most of those countries, while they do have plans for Japan.

MS shouldnt even bother with Japan. The console will bomb harder than the 360 did which is saying something.

Wii U with Mario & Taiko no Tatsujin barely moved. Vita TV looks dead already but never did quite understand why people thought this was going to be big.

3DS got a nice boost with One Piece.

When does the console become the problem in all this? It seems no matter what games are released people just do not want the Wii U.

I never expected Vita TV to do big figures as it appeals to a very niche audience. Having said that, I hope it comes out over here.

Yeah, that'll help the Wii U to sell.

What they need to do is shift titles to the Wii U, not away.

The game will bomb on the Wii U. The Wii U may need it but it will perform a lot better on the 3DS.

Wouldn't be surprised if Atlus were seriously thinking about switching it to 3DS. Wii U is Done!

Consumers are not interested in the console.

Not Atlus' decision. Nintendo is financing it so they dictate it.

It does but its not like there were any titles before Mario 3D or any other titles on the horizon which will move hardware. It seems that no matter what game is released the effect on hardware sales is minimal.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to show. How many consoles were sold the week before and of a Mario game launch?

If so, to look at it in isolation is misguided. What else is out there, the time of year, overall console sales and trend (ie is it generally on the up, in a rough patch, staying steady), console price, sales leading up to etc all play a role. Just saying "it did this one week and this the next" doesn't really show anything.

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought. Xbox has literally no presence/people don't care for it in Japan. They can release it there when they want really; Wii U is the only other console and that offers something completely different.

Yeah, that'll help the Wii U to sell.

I don't know man. Sure, you've got a hardcore following for both franchises, but once the units have sold, that's it, it wont continue afterwards unless they go on a multiple-demographic blitz.

i personally think it should have been a 3DS title from Day 1.

What about Smash Bros. The 3DS version is really gonna suck them Wii U sales thats for sure.

I honestly dont see what nintendo can do to dig the Wii U out of this hole. People say more advertising but that is not the reason it is not selling. You can advertise all you want but if people do not have any desire for it then your screwed.

Blackberry with the Z10 should show people that blitz marketing is not the savior to problems.

I think nintendo released a console that nobody wants. The lack of power in the machine is a problem and it has come back to bite. 8 years on and games are looking like previous Generation. Sorry guys but that was never gonna work again!

Whether it's new software or hardware bundles people are just not interested.

The core gamer ha ignored it. The casual audience from the wii has ignored it. What's next? Time to pour a 40 on it I think.

I'm curious to know you the actual wii u playing install base is in Japan. I really do wonder how many have been traded in as the software sales just give the impression that there are less than the 1 mil units sold actually active.

The sad thing is that it seems like the Wii U install base has ignored Super Mario 3D World.

Okay the game may not have sold consoles but @ the very least you would expect current Wii U owners to buy the game for sure.

Are Wii U owners just now not actually bothered about the console they own or like liger said, have they traded in there machines.

Maybe the 3DS has just killed Wii U's appeal. 3DS has all the quality Nintendo games and has the big and small 3rd parties on board.

Look, I love the gamepad, but it just wasn't needed.

Wii 2 should have come with a better wii-mote and nunchuk with Wii Sports 2 and a proper Mario at launch. Make the console as powerful as possible and sell it for $249. Boom. They retain their USP from the last generation (motion controls), whilst making the console more 'future proof' spec wise. At a price like that it would easily take the limelight away from the XBOne and the PS4.

With the 2DS! :heh:

I'm actually not sure what they plan to do next. Who knows. Maybe they'll go Vita and just make it a portable Wii?

Not a good result at all

Mario did 100k (which is more than I expected), Wii U only did 20k.

I honestly don't get why people are refusing to buy the Wii U.

This sums up exactly why you shouldn't be posting and arguing with people in this thread - you don't understand what's going on.

This is what? Week on week sales? LTD sales? Number of consoles sitting on shelves? Nice set of figures lacking context there.

What about Smash Bros. The 3DS version is really gonna suck them Wii U sales thats for sure.

I'm very interested to see what SSB4 does in the market. Will 3Ds sales suck from Wii U? Will Wii U sales go up? What proportion of people will get the Wii U version compared to the 3DS version? It's going to be really nice to see how that game affects both consoles at the same time.

It makes me wonder how Nintendo will follow up the 3DS.

Back to the game boy brand and single screen and looking to sell at no more that £199 but if possible £150-£179. The Vita and the 3DS at its launch price has showed the market has no interest in a dedicated handheld retailing for more than £200 and has no interest in a high spec handheld either. The next Nintendo handheld for me just needs a 720p screen and specs a bit more powerful than the Vita. 3D can go and as I said most important is hitting that sub £200 price point.
