General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

Recommended Posts

So, I think I may be a little late to the party here, but is the UK the wild exception to Sony's European dominance?

Looking at the online retailers, that's probably going to change next generation, but man there's a lot of 360 titles in the top 10.

From a purely anecdotal perspective the larger majority of my gamer friends primarily 360 than PS3. Some'll own both(or at least have access to both), but they'll opt for 360 for most of their games - I think online plays into this but not 100%.

I found that most of my friends for the first half of the generation played the 360 then after that most switched over to the PS3

Vita reportedly on top of the charts this week. IT LIVES!

You're holding it upside down.

I've also noticed that friends who had the 360 switched to PS3 too.

Japan: Wii U Sales Slip Slightly To Under 16k, Band Brothers P For 3DS Sells 40k

This week’s Media Create sales from Japan are now in. While the Wii U’s sales slip slightly, it’s not by much, still managing to shift just under 16k units. Of course, the big contender this week is the PlayStation Vita TV, but it still doesn’t have the power to knock off the 3DS LL, which remains the best-selling console in the hardware chart.

Although there’s not much new in software this week with Super Mario 3D World due out in Japan tomorrow, Wii Party U suffers a considerable decrease in sales and only shifts 7k down from its party-popping 60k last week, pushing it into 17th place. However, the 3DS title Daigasso! Band Brothers P, which had its own Chotto Direct at the end of October, has sold just over 40k copies and places in 6th – now that’s some sweet music. The top 10 software and hardware charts can be found below.

  1. [PSV] God Eater 2 (Namco Bandai, 11/14/13) – 266,326 (New)
  2. [PS3] Call of Duty: Ghosts (Square Enix, 11/14/13) – 190,631 (New)
  3. [PS3] Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (Konami, 11/14/13) – 151,800 (New)
  4. [PSP] God Eater 2 (Namco Bandai, 11/14/13) – 112,024 (New)
  5. [3DS] Pokemon X and Y (Nintendo, 10/12/13) – 82,705 (2,929,806)
  6. [3DS] Daigasso! Band Brothers P (Nintendo, 11/14/13) – 40,196 (New)
  7. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 (Capcom, 09/14/13) – 26,358 (2,938,669)
  8. [3DS] Medabots Dual Kabut Ver. / Kuwagata Ver. (Rocket, 11/14/13) – 21,454 (New)
  9. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V (Take-Two, 10/10/13) – 29,144 (579,822)
  10. [PS3] Battlefield 4 (EA, 11/07/13) – 19,291 (140,990)

  1. 3DS LL – 47,852 (53,190)
  2. PlayStation Vita – 46,350 (21,764)
  3. PlayStation Vita TV – 42,172 (New)
  4. 3DS – 22,250 (28,627)
  5. Wii U – 15,906 (17,737)
  6. PlayStation 3 – 12,019 (11,867)
  7. PSP – 4,353 (4,010)
  8. Wii – 518 (579)
  9. Xbox 360 – 404 (346)

I thought the vita would get a bigger boost with GE2. I dont think the bump is that huge considering 40k of is Vitatv.

I think Vita sales will half next week similar to Wii U a couple of weeks ago. Next week will see a big spike with SM3DW releasing tomorrow but then another big tail off. Don't think there's anything for the rest of the year for Wii U.

It has Monster Hunter Frontier G on December 11th, but that's multiplatform so I don't see it doing major numbers

Very solid week for the Vita, with the combined sales outselling the 3DS. I have my doubts as to whether that's sustainable though.

Curious to see how big of a bump 3D Land can provide, it's going to be more beneficial in Japan than any where else due to the Wii U being the only next generation console in town right now.

The jump was mostly because of the launch of the Vita TV SKU. It's illogical to believe it'll be this high for any prolonged time and, unlike the Wii U bundle release, the majority of Vita TV purchasers are likely to be Vita owners already.

Well gee Captain Obvious

Plus, the last point means next to nothing. Every hardware 'revision' (really not sure how to define Vita TV) has a large consumer base of those who owned previous versions of the hardware.

But still, the fact that both pieces of the hardware were a slither behind the 3DS LL is rather impressive.

For a new SKU release, its sales were very tame...not impressive.

Whatever floats your boat man. I had my money on the PSP version of God Eater 2 being the dominant version, so I'm thoroughly impressed that there was enough appeal to get the Japanese away from their beloved PSP's and to adopt a Vita and in numbers to surpass the 3DS weekly sales too.

True enough. Guess it goes to show, software sells hardware. Who knew? :p

I think the week was ok. It had its biggest game ever released and the stand alone vita sales didn’t bump as much as I thought. Thought it would of hit 60 – 70k.

First day sell through in Japan.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy - 50-60% (shipment was much lower than the last entry)

Super Mario 3D World - 20%

One Piece: Unlimited World Red - 20%

New Atelier Rorona - 30-40%

Aikatsu 2 - 30%

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U Version - 5%

Cooking Mama 5 - 5%

Was worried about Mario as pre order signs were not great.

The only hope is for both games they shipped loads but it's not looking good.

Anecdotal but my friend in Japan was in a huge shopping centre earlier today. He said the Wii U section was packed, loads of people were buying Mario and Taiko for Wii U. In 20 minutes, around 20 people bought Mario.

Good news, to be sure but the question is, will this kind of thing happen in the West?

There seems to be a lot of positive buzz ( at least on the internet ) in regards to 3D World. Hopefully this will translate into some healthy sales.

There was a guy on Gaf yesterday who was thinking of dropping the cash on a XBOne but the decided against it because he was gonna have to pay £500+ to get the system and games. He switched to getting a Wii U Mario bundle and Zelda, Pikmin, Wonderful 101 and another game which I can't remember at the moment. He got a new console, with a good library of games for a fraction of the price of the XBOne.

I can see more people doing this kind of thing, especially with the bundles that are kicking around at the moment.

Microsoft announce they sold 1 mil day one. Now some people will try to turn it into a bad number as it's worldwide sales but it's really not. Microsoft had a major pr disaster but have still shifted 1 mil units first day.

Good for the industry as consoles are well and truly alive.

Japan: Call of Duty: Ghosts sees low debut on Wii U, but still a bit better than Rayman and Sonic

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched in Japan last week. How’d the Wii U version do? Not too well, though it did do slightly better than other prominent Wii U titles.

Sales reported by Dengeki (tracked by ASCII Works) indicate that the game sold 2,508 units in its first few days on the market. Interestingly, that’s better the debuts of both Rayman Legends and Sonic Lost World.

The Xbox One outsold the Xbox 360 two-to-one in the UK when you compare both console's launch periods.

The Xbox 360 launches in the UK in 2005 - nearly eight years ago.

Sales of the Xbox One, which launched on Friday 22nd November, amounted to 80 per cent of all home consoles sold this week.

10 of the 16 Xbox One launch titles debuted in the UK's top 40 chart, which counts physical sales only - exactly the same number of titles that appeared in the top 40 of the week of the Xbox 360's launch.

With a 328 per cent increase in sales, FIFA 14 returns to number one after a seven week absence. The lead format is the Xbox One version, which Chart-Track notes is the best-selling Xbox One game. But this is down to it being included in the Xbox One Day 1 edition, so it's a slightly misleading chart this week.

The PlayStation 4 version of FIFA 14 charts, despite the console not going on sale in the UK until this Friday, 29th November.

Call of Duty: Ghosts drops to second place after two weeks at the top. The PS4 and Xbox One versions bother released ahead of their consoles.

Battlefield 4 is in number three, boosted by the release of the Xbox One version. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is similarly boosted into fourth place, with both the PS4 and Xbox One versions out this week.

Xbox One exclusive Forza 5 debuts at number five, but, like FIFA 14, benefited from being bundled in with some Xbox One consoles. Lego Marvel Super Heroes is sixth. Dead Rising 3 is in at seven. 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds debuts at nine. The third biggest Xbox One exclusive is Ryse: Son of Rome, which enters the chart in tenth place.

So 140k sold first weekend. Wii U did 40k
