Looks like they've killed off Gamestation now.

Game Retail has announced today that all its stores will now operate under one brand – GAME.

MCV understands that an announcement was made during the GAME Conference today.

It means an end to the firm’s dual-brand identity. It has operated both GAME and Gamestation stores since it acquired the latter chain from Blockbuster in 2007.

It follows comments made to MCV last week from CEO Martyn Gibbs, who said the company is researching what gamers ‘want from a specialist.’

Gamestation was formed in 1993 in York and by 2002 had 63 stores. It was then sold to Blockbuster who aggressively rolled-out stores until the brand had almost 240 on the High Street. GAME then acquired Gamestation in 2007, with the store’

MCV will reveal more on the new changes happening at Game Retail over the coming days.

Reward cards and vouchers will all work at GAME. Not heard anything about what's happening to the website though.

Gamestation was dead to me the moment they stopped stocking retro titles.

But it's good to see them cut the bullshit with the dual identity stuff. I was never surprised when people didn't realise that both of them have been the same company for years now.

Gamestation hasnt really felt the same since GAME bought them anyway, ive said it before elsewhere but the quality of staff, retro game titles, just the general feeling of the stores dropped through the floor. Ive stopped going to my local stores more and more now and started buying everything online, i would never have done that 5 years ago but its such a chore to deal with the staff now that i just dont want to go in there anymore.

It's a real shame that they were bought out and lost their identity and are now being shut down as a result. I always loved Gamestation far more. I did kind of hope they would kind of merge the two keep the GAME name but make the local look in line with Gamestation. I hate the look and branding of Games and their stores.

They should of stuck with Gamestation and ditched Game.

Or just changed them all to "BollockStation" and have done with it.

Gamestation have been pretty shit for awhile now though, they used to be 'different' with the retro stuff etc but then that went.

I also don't think their prices were as good as they used to be either.

The only ever Gamestation I've ever had the displeasure of visiting was a cramped store full mostly of generic trade-ins, poor pricing and really unhelpful staff so the rebranding is welcome...

... but I still won't shop there for most of my games on principle.

Game are really only good for their sale prices.
