Lens of Truth Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) Perhaps I'm being too "half full" here, but I think a niche title selling 85k in its first week in one territory is pretty healthy. Xenoblade, Monolith's last, sold less than twice that in its entire lifespan in Japan on a console with an astronomically larger install base. The development costs will have been much lower for this too. I have to say, I find the practise these days of a first week's sales figures (often a first weekend!) being judged as determining the fate of a game to be a bit ridiculous. I don't think this is notably low enough to have an effect on the (already very slim) possibility of localisation. The vicissitudes of the localisation game are all based on the premise that Japanese gamers have different tastes anyway! vOv Edited October 21, 2012 by Lens of Truth
Tamazoid Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 The important thing to gleam from the sales figures is that it has sold below Namco's expectations. Selling 50% of the first shipment isn't good for s SRPG game in generally as the sales in that genre are usually front loaded (Fire Emblem Awakening was an exception). At the end of the day it all depends on if Namco think that it will sell well enough in the West and if they have made enough profit from the game in Japan to make localizing it feasible.

Nothing has the chance to sit on the shelves now and gain a good reputation over time. This is particularly true of handheld games where the print-run seems to be much more limited than console titles. Something could sell out (and demand high prices 2nd-hand), yet still be considered a flop because it didn't sell what the publishers expected in the first week.
-Dem0- Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) A retailer has given this game a MASSIVE price drop to what looks like the Limited Edition. From 6,280 to 980 Yen. http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=193631 Edited January 2, 2013 by -Dem0-
Captain Falcon Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Not too surprising really. Sales started well enough with week 1 but sales dropped off massively in the following week and have really slowed down.
Tamazoid Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Saw the limited edition for $85 at an import store, while Fire Emblem Awakening was $125. Looks like Sega, Capcom and Namco IP don't have that much selling power.
killer kirby Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 The game only has a small fan base, no one else is interested in these types of games, it was going to have a big 1st week with week after that being small to nothing. Just like all the other Capcom x Namco games.
Tamazoid Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 All the others? there's only been this and Namco X Capcom and sales wise they have performed very similarly. Adding Sega IP hasn't seemed to make any notable difference sales wise. I suppose it's probably cheap for Namco to make though.
Ike Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 We are pleased to announce that Project X Zone is coming to both Europe & Australasia in the summer of 2013 for Nintendo 3DS! #ProjectXZone
Dcubed Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 NO FUCKING WAY!!! Never in a million years did I expect it to get localised! GOOD GOING NAMCO YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS! I hope that the game is better than Namco X Capcom though. From what I've seen of the game it looks to be all fan service and no substance...
-Dem0- Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Woah, very nice! I'm very excited, mainly for the fact that we're getting a game that I never thought would be localised. Great news.
-Dem0- Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I was considering importing this game, especially the First Print Special Edition (still very cheap!) Now I don't have to!
Hero-of-Time Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Absolutely chuffed to bits with this news. Like others I never expected it to be released in the West.
Lens of Truth Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Fantastic news! I'd just about given up on it.
Andyliini Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 May get this to show support for Megaman. And also, localisation for a niche title like this leaves Square-Enix no valid excuse not to localize Bravely Default.
Grazza Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Unbelievable! I'm getting this just for the sprite work.
khilafah Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I was considering importing this game, especially the First Print Special Edition (still very cheap!) Now I don't have to! i did last week.. will try and get through the japanese version and buy the european in the summer.
Grazza Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Awesome stuff. Can't wait to use Chun Li and Morrigan!
