I was told by the HR lady the person in charge of me will contact me to let me know what time I need to start and any other things. This has yet to happen... Eep! Maybe ring them today and ask? Had a lovely lady at spotify ringing me today about my contract, they said they'd send it today, but whether I'll get it for monday is another thing, I mentioned that it has been like two weeks, but we'll see. They still seem somewhat surprised I'm moving, they were under the impression I'd be commuting 3 hours a day, the more sensible option is to either rent mon-fri and commute or move down. Yeah I was planning to Emailed HR person today and she said my supervisor should have rung yesterday and sent a reminder. Also gave me her number and I just tried and it went to a voicemail for someone else. However she has just emailed me. Apparently my working hours will normally be 10-6, was hoping for 9-5 but ah well Now just to tell Uniqlo. I really must do that after Scrubs... In my defence I tried yesterday and he wasn't in and tried earlier and he was in a meeting. -edit- and tried again and in another meeting. This time asked the receptionist to ask him to ring me back. And I realised my job being 10-6 kind of screws with my plans to get a train at 6:14 on Friday. So I can either get the one an hour later, see if I can finish ten minutes earlier or high tail it from Torrington Square to Euston, which will be just about possible... Have you thought about a second part time job? Not at the moment, I am getting used to 16 to 20 hours a week till I'm ready to move up. My hours are from 10am to 2pm so it fills the middle of my day. Well I just couldn't catch a break, I'd always fail at the interview if ever managed to get that far. I mean I did other things, I did 13 weeks on a employability course and get that extended to do some Work experience at the end of last year for 3 months. I probably also could have done more in regards to looking too, I wasn't the most diligent job seeker I must admit at least till the end of my jobseeking. Left it on good terms so hopefully that's one for the future anyway. Decided I'm going to take a break from my career and move to Japan for a few years. It's always been on my list of things I want to do and ultimately it will benefit me, so why not. That or someone like Jet but for any of them you are going to have to do some serious swatting up on your English language and grammar and wot-nots. You have a pretty solid and neutral english accent so that is a major advantage (actually the more well spoken the better, especially for your states interviews). Five months I've now been unemployed and getting on for around 200 applications. I started off trying to target jobs that would get a foot in the door to a career I would like to progress into (environmental chemistry and management) and which I spent 5 years doing undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications for. This resulted in one interview 120 miles away, which I failed due to having not enough engineering experience in spite of "coming across well, both professionally and technically" and "demonstrating detailed understanding of your discipline, and your explanation of challenging subjects was both clear and logical". Right, so with money tight I changed strategy. I decided to broaden my search to administration and laboratory work; I have experience of working independently in laboratories, doing data entry and analysis with Excel and Access and have experience doing admin duties in a retail environment. In the meantime I tried to beg for unpaid work experience with environmental consultancies. The result....nothing, all applications disappeared into the ether returning silence. Ok, let's change strategy again. This time I targeted retail, an area that I have a large amount of work experience within. Last Friday I got a call from a small branch of Waterstone's offering me an interview. This is it I thought. However today I hear that I've been rejected on the grounds of "not having enough experience with retail systems"; WTF! I've freaking worked for them before! I know their ridiculous, outdated, MS-DOS looking computer systems! I've also worked in another (damn-sight more respected and famous) book shop for a year. So now I feel like I'm at a dead end. I've been rejected by the career I want to go into, rejected by secondary jobs that would give me some decent experience and rejected by minimum wage retail. I don't think they're that interested in knowledge of Japanese if you want to be an ALT, and CIRs have to be fluent. Then again, I guess it might show a committed interest in Japanese culture.
