I love the game mode with no radar - easy deathmatch I think it's called. It seems like a proper way to play a multiplayer stealth game. Watching for your prey, identifying, then stalking for an assassination. Rather than just following the great big pointer at the bottom of the screen.

AC:B did introduce the Assassination mode recently as part of the paid DLC where you don't have a proper pointer, although this was probably too late given Revelations is so close now.

Played a quick game online having had virtually no experience on Assassins Creed. Managed to win the first match I entered somehow, it was pretty enjoyable but very tense and I still have very little understanding of the mechanics. It's a good mix of being patient but also choosing speed and stealth at the flip of a switch. It's almost a test to act like a bot half the time.

Should probably try out the second training because aside from movement and the square/circle buttons I know jack shit.

I only managed a brief play of the beta before we moved appartment (thus no proper internet for a couple of weeks) but it seems quite similar to the previous game's online. You start out with fairly little in AC:B online (not sure whether they give you lots of weapons/perks in the demo) and level up lots to get additional things.

When you first start, it's good to walk between crowds, and run whenever you know you're not in the line of sight of your mark. Otherwise it can take ages to get to them. Try not to act suspicious and don't be tempted to lunge at your enemy when you're close. You lose tons of points for being discreet compared to incognito, it's not really worth it.

When you unlock the smoke bomb you can get a lot more points. Basically, when you see the person after you (or have a good incling it's them), wait until they're fairly close to you and throw the bomb. Then you can stun them for easy points.

Later on when you unlock poison, instead of pressing square to kill when in contact with your victim you instead use the poison ability. This nets you +200 extra points (+300 with slow-acting poison) so you can see how the points start to stack up.

The temptation for some is to either a) run around like lunatics getting a fair number of kills that are worth little or b) equip the hidden gun, netting you a paltry 100 points and it takes 90 seconds to cool down. These are both silly tactics, but annoyingly a lot of people do this. It can be tempting to run after these people, and because they often run around on the rooftops you will be obvious to all your attackers. Even if you catch up with these people, you'll have done so much running that there'll probably be a chase (ie. you were so obvious that they saw you), meaning after all that running you can at best get 100 points.

Not worth it, just kill a random NPC to get assigned a new target if that happens. Instead, lie low, wait for a good kill. If you end up losing lots of contracts because of this then don't worry, eventually you get a Score x2 loss streak which means after 3 lost contracts your next kill gives double points. If you do a great kill with this streak active, it's quite easy to go from near last to near first. And this is actually not a bad way to win - being first for most of the game sucks because you often have 3 people trying to hunt you, making it easy to give points away and harder to get points of your own.

Yeah the person in second place in the game I mentioned scored 10 kills and died just 5 times, I came first with 6 kills and 6 deaths - I wasn't running around like a lunatic, almost all of my assassinations were undiscovered. Other dewd was hunting like he was bloody Rambo.

My experience of the beta was waiting 30 minutes to find a game, getting in one only to have it freeze (lag freeze, not PS3/Game freeze - menus and stuff worked) then disconnect (the same happened on both my home broadband and 3G). So I went and played Uncharted 2's multiplayer (which worked perfectly through 3G).

Wait you can play online through 3G?!!!! :o

The PS3 has no idea that it's 3G. My phone (Desire HD) acts as a WiFi Hotspot so anything that connects to it thinks that it's just a standard WiFi router.

I get a NAT Type 2 on the PS3 so game connections and voice chat works. I need to do more testing on the Xbox but I get a strict NAT on that.

It probably helps that my 3G connection is 4Mbps (which is faster than my home broadband).

My g/f's Desire S starts the wifi hotspot with one touch and gets speeds of up to 600kb/s! The old Nokia I'm using can do the same with an app called joikuspot, but speeds on T-Mobile are not as good as those on 3. If only she had a truly unlimited data package though :(

I get my proper internet back next tuesday, which I imagine will be too late. Gutted because I'm a huge fan of AC Multiplayer.

To be expected, it is a beta after all. AC:B doesn't have these issues.

Can't believe people actually use 3G to play games. Sounds quite unreliable really, at least if O2's (giffgaff's) 3G is anything to go by.

For what it's worth I haven't had any issues getting into games. I do have an open NAT, though; I wouldn't be surprised if 3G connections go through additional traffic shaping and filtering.

Just as a heads up, if anyone has done this in the past and fancies doing it again

Great Magazines are giving this away with a year's subscription to FHM, which only costs £30 by direct debit, cheaper than any pre-order deal for the game at the moment. It's hit and miss though on delivery speed, ranging anywhere from very early (week before release) to very late (a month late). There's also £5 quidco if that's your thing, making it a potential £25.

I did it last year with Brotherhood and had no problems at all.

I did this when they had the original game up for offer, biggest mistake ever as they ran out of copies almost instantly and ended up sending me free plane tickets instead - which apparently are really easy to get hold of plus I wouldn't have used them - so I had to send them back and asked them in writing to just cancel the damn thing. :hmm:

I'm guessing their service must have improved somewhat over the years though but still, I wouldn't bother based on past experience plus the fact that I haven't even finished the other games anyway. >>'

They are on my 'to complete' pile though...

I'm pretty sure that it's improved a fair bit since then. As I said there's sometimes a chance it won't arrive very fast, so not ideal for someone looking forward to an early pre-order, but I've not heard of them running out or sending out substitute gifts lately.

The real question about all of this is do I really want FHM arriving on my door step every month just to save a tenner on a game.

The obvious answer there is no, I wouldn't even use FHM pages as toilet paper. :p

Why do people buy it? If you're paying for softcore porn you're doing it wrong. T'internet is there.

Exactly...I should have perhaps worded it differently "Why would I want a copy of FHM arriving on my doorstep every month just to save a tenner"
