Beast Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Inspired by JonSt's post in the Matt Cardle thread. What song or movie or game or anything do you think is better than the original? For me, I think Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You is much better than Dolly Parton's.
Daft Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 For me, I think Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You is much better than Dolly Parton's. Holy shit. Seriously? Dolly all the way. Houston is like some kind of crack-ridden banshee.
Jimbob Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 that's all i got. Aww, i was going to post that. Damn you for beating me to it.
Nolan Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Obligatory. Also I agree with Mad World as well.
Goafer Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Wait a minute. They're identical twins, but one is left handed? How odd.
gaggle64 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Do remixes count? I've become rather fond of this American Science remix of Bob Dylan's Masters of War - I always felt the original sounded a little weak for it's subject matter, the added beats and a stronger guitar sound brings it all to the fore. MoogleViper Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Wait a minute. They're identical twins, but one is left handed? How odd. I never noticed. That is indeed strange. Although aesthetically I think it "adds" to the video. EDIT: Maybe not uncommon. 20% of all identical twin pairs have one right handed twin and one left handed http://multiples.about.com/cs/funfacts/a/aatwinhand.htm Edited December 14, 2010 by MoogleViper
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 No! That's just wrong!!! Also... original: cover: Absolutely brilliant cover, yeah? Wait a minute. They're identical twins, but one is left handed? How odd. It's quite common. My bros are identical twins and one's left handed. It's like they're symmetrical, instead of identical.
Goafer Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Is right-handedness chosen by genetics? Deep down, I think so although it can always be chosen/forced. My Mum is right handed and my Dad is left handed. When my Dad was teaching me to write I wrote with my left hand and when my Mum was teaching me I used my right. In the end I made the decision to stick with the left hand in order to be different (and probably to take after my Dad). Might have been a genetic thing too, but I definitely made a conscious decision at some point. No! That's just wrong!!! I stand by my decision on the grounds that the original is shit. Absolutely brilliant cover, yeah?. Edited December 14, 2010 by Goafer Automerged Doublepost

Goafer Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I can't listen to the original of this any more. This one's so much better: Also:

Paj! Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I'm so blown by HelenaMaria. I want to spend precious time listening to their sweet music. ---- Rainy Day Women - Saint Etienne (originally by Bob Dylan) The atmoshpere in this song takes me somewhere else. Most of Saint Etienne's early stuff does, but this reminds me of Edinburgh...walking by myself Howe Street from my school to Princes St. Gorgeous. The original I can give or take.
Mundi Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 As much as I love Nick Cave, I cannot deny that this is the better version. : Original: But only by a slim margin. Genetics play heavily into this, you can choose which hand to use but one will always be the "preferred hand" that feels more comfortable to use. I kinda had a similar experience when it comes to handedness. I has this "wonderful" teacher in the first and second grade that was old fashioned in her way of thinking. She believed that being left handed did not exist and I am left handed, fun times ensued.... Right now I can do pretty much everything with both hands, but I prefer using my left hand.
