Gambling

Taken from Kav's thread about his insane gambling mate spending on xbox live points (kinda)

Anyways, Are you a weekend gambler betting on the football and horse for a few pounds a week, or do you bet everyday spunking loads of cash hoping for a big win.

Personally I am a weekend gambler, I put mainly accumulator bets on, a few pounds here and there each week. The most I have won is £600 and thanks to my mate at ladbrokes who looked at my account he told me I am up on the bookies by aboout £1500

anyone else had any big wins or totally against it.

I know three people who regularly gamble. One mate in sheffield who eyes the fruit machines, waiting for some fool to waste loads of money, then he dives in. He has a 100% record when I've seen him, always coming up at least a tenner richer.

Another mate in brighton plays a lot of poker online, and frequently wins hundreds of dollars for coming as 8th-6th in small tournaments. Again, he's always in the plus.

Neither of them are addicts or fools who believe in karma, which is probably why they're successful.

A third mate from brighton/huddersfield gets scratchcards a lot - a habit formed because his mum used to send him to the shop to fetch a few every other day. He managed to wrangle a 50/50 deal for doing the fetching, so obv. he's won a few quid here and there for nothing.

I've never understood gambling, so I've avoided it. however I've been tempted, in my poverty, to start playing the lottery/buying scratchcards.

I know ReZ is an addict in hiding, though.

I have a mate exactly the same, if he's waiting at the pub for everyone to arrive he'll have a go on the fruit machine and then get the £80 jackpot the lucky bastard. Pretty much everytime.

One of my housemates from back in Sheffield wasted a ton of money on fruit machines and itboxes.

The most "gambling" I've done is Texas Hold 'Em with my housemates. We all chucked a pound in and the winner takes the lot. The tiny amount of cash made the game strangely intense (even though we spent much more than the winnings on booze/snacks).

Yeah basically. Words cannot describe how much I love Roulette. I adore it. It is such a huge rush to play, and even if you lose....its not the end of the world...you had fun. But if you win, you just feel absolutely invigorated.

I'm almost certainly either down or barely even overall, but....I just love it. I love the fuck out of it.

We're planning to go back to Blackpool next year and I intend to smash it at the casino again. Just. <3 so much.

What strategy do you use for roulette ReZ? I used to just fap my chips around the place, putting them inbetween four numbers and one on 14 Red as a tribute to:

My strategy now is from somewhere I can't find. I thought it was on the Wiki but I seem to have forgotten where. I bet on black and the two outside columns. That covers all the numbers bar four reds in the middle column which get a chip each or at least connecting them to other numbers. Maybe splash a few around on a few choice numbers. More often than not you can break even.

I did the double-till-you-win strategy (or used to) ~sometimes~ but if it goes wrong you're fucked.

So normally I just do random numbers/colours and cover about a third of the board. 33 usually sees a lot of action. In fact all the 30's do. Love those fucking dudes man.

I don't like gambling. I go to the dogs every now and then but only because my friend working there gets me in free. He's a mad gambler btw, can win a lot but even if he does he throws it away on more gambling. Well actually do you just mean gambling money? If you include procrastination then I am a big gambler.

I love a wee flutter at the bookies on the football. Since the World Cup I'm up £160 which is pretty good. However a bad run of form over the past month has seen me lose £100 (I was £260 up). However I rarely take the money out of the account so overall I'm definitely up on the bookies. Only started betting last September and between then and May it was only small bets, of which I came out even at the end (I took out my original money as soon as I made it back) and then never deposited anything else.

Start of the World Cup I had a free £20 bet (totally free, not even a match your bet thing) and I put it on England to draw with USA at 3/1. Also had a fiver on Spain to win the World Cup at either 4/1 or 5/1. After that I had a big win at a 25/1 accumulator which I had a fiver on.

Couple weeks ago Aston Villa vs Burnley screwed me over for £90 as Burnley got a last minute equaliser! Wanks!

Why do last minute goals NEVER, EVER go in your favour? (Man U last night doesn't count as it wasn't 90+)

Always got the weekly coupon for the football, mid-week too most weeks. Bayern Munich cost me £280 against Roma! and the bastards were 2-0 up. The most i've won on one coupon was £1800. Correctly predicted 8 score draws.

I do like a flutter at the casino when I'm out in town, usually poker or blackjack. I've never walked out having lost money but I was once up £1200 and made a bad move, still came out with £50. The way I look at it, as long as you're not losing anything, you're winning. I'm normally too drunk to care by that point anyway.

The closest I get to gambling is going on the ItBox pub quiz games.

As for the lottery, you're often more likely to die before the results are announced than you are to actually win.

If you don't play, you definitely wont win.

It's worth £1 for the slight chance of becoming a rich bastard

If you play in both draws every single week that's £104 a year. Why don't you put the money in a jar each week and then buy something nice at the end of the year?

Precisely my point - why throw away that amount of money you know you have for a miniscule chance of a win, when all sorts of unpleasant things are far more likely to happen? You live life assuming you're not going to die in a car crash every time you get in the car, but if you think there's a possibility of you winning the lottery then you also have to account for the (far greater) possibility of being in a car crash.

I used to play on a betting side. Usually I picked women's matches in tennis I knew there was a good chance for a major upset, occassionally Norwegian football matches. Managed to go from 40 pounds to 200 and then lost it all. By then the goverment made a new law saying you can't transfer money to betting sites, only withdraw. So now I don't bet anymore. I only spent 5-10 pounds at a time and over two years so it was just for fun. The accumulated earnings was probably well over 500 pounds. The irony is that Lotto(lottery) is 100% owned by the government. The only restriction that one has is that you can't spend more than 200 pounds a month. I play lottery sometimes but isn't as fun as betting.
