Cube Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 http://www.google.com/instant/#utm_campaign=launch&utm_medium=van&utm_source=instant It searches as you type, and was the reason for today's Google doodle.
Charlie Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I think its a great concept. I would use it but as it doesn't yet support Chrome's browser search or on iGoogle I won't be just yet...
Cube Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 I think its a great concept. I would use it but as it doesn't yet support Chrome's browser search or on iGoogle I won't be just yet... Those are pretty much the reasons I won't be using it properly for now.
Charlie Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Yeah I can't remember the last time I actually went to the Google page to search, apart from trying this out.
Cube Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Yeah I can't remember the last time I actually went to the Google page to search, apart from trying this out. I visited the main Google page to play with balls yesterday. I think Google Pac-Man was the time before that.
Daft Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I want Chrome's children. Instant is pretty cool but, yeah, needs integration into Chrome.
Shorty Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I... it just doesn't work for me, unless I pause between words. It's not instant, it's fast. But not as fast as I type.
McPhee Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Same problem here. Cant see me using it to be honest.
Charlie Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Apparently a lot of companies are worried about how SEO will work with this as no 2 people will be seeing the same results... http://www.steverubel.com/google-instant-makes-seo-irrelevant
Wesley Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 How am I meant to even access this? I've logged out of my Google account and I still can't seem to access it... but I swore I got on it at home? Fuck it. Unless it's on everything it's shit. I've got a iGoogle page that doesn't work with it, Firefox homepage that doesn't work, UK version that didn't work, etc. Meh.
LostOverThere Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 ^ This. I can't seem to get it working. Tried with Firefox 4 and Chrome 6. Signed in and out. Cleared cookies and all.
Shorty Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It's on the basic google.com (or .co.uk) for logged in users, but not everyone can get it yet.
Rummy Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Interesting idea, though I don't know if I see the real need for it? Except maybe in those circumstances where you're googling in search of something you don't quite know, and end up doing like twenty difference searches with different word combinations until you finally find what you were looking for. Possibly ending up terribly dissappointed that it wasn't what you thought it was anyway.
MadDog Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Just tried it now. All that seems to be different is the fact i don't have to press enter. If you type anything other than slowly, it's kinda pointless.
flameboy Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Seriously how is this even close to being news worthy or anything worth thinking about! So I can speed up my search in the minute amount of time it takes from me typing the last letter to hitting enter! Meh! Posted from my BlackBerry using BerryBlab
Cube Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 Simply put: It looks cool. Albeit not as cool as the Google Balls Doodle they had the day before.
dwarf Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/sep/13/charlie-brooker-google-instant that, tbh Google Assault is a great idea Edited September 15, 2010 by dwarf
Diageo Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 It doesn't work for me, or for anyone else in Ireland. I would like to try it.
nightwolf Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/sep/13/charlie-brooker-google-instant that, tbh Google Assault is a great idea This rang completely true when I tried it, I mean fantastic for those who aren't quite sure what they are looking for, but to promote it just as something that stops you pressing enter is to me..well remarkably silly and isn't worth using.
Raining_again Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 so chrome has support now? Its the biggest pile of shit which just slows down my temperamental internet >_>
Diageo Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 so chrome has support now? Its the biggest pile of shit which just slows down my temperamental internet >_> Turn it off.
Dog-amoto Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Thank God!! It was torture having to press enter and then wait 0.43567 seconds for my 100,000 results!
ohyoume Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Its all about providing personable search results tailored towards individual users. Based on a person's history of browsing, Google knows what a person is seeking and provides the results to match. In some ways kind of worrying because all the users data are stored in some database. Who knows how it can be used in the future, perhaps it is time to use search engines through a proxy.
