VMA's 2010

So the nominations have been announced with regard to this years VMA awards. I think that this would be a nice thread to discuss it, and so I made it.

Of course, I prdict that there will be a lot of hate in this thread as most of the artists up for awards are very mainstream *cough* Bieber *cough* but nonetheless feel free to discuss :)

Oh, and because I'm a little biased I want to say the fantastic Gaga is up for 13 nominations which is the most ever. I know that a lot of the nominations are because of collabs with Beyoncé but I don't care :p

Can't wait for preformances this year as last years were sorta Epic! Gaga and Beyoncé instantly come to mind :)

I watched the above video but was somewhat dissapointed as it has the words 'shoots' and 'Lady Gaga' in the title but it wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for.

I was hoping for something involving a gun, not a camera. :heh:

*Keith takes a photo of his girlfriend's ex sneaking around in her garden, which gets his attention*

Keith: "You better leave Alicia alone otherwise the next time I shoot you it won't be digitally. Unless I hit you in the finger then we'll all have a good laugh."

Aaaanyway yeah. I think I've ranted enough about Gaga so I won't bother again. The VMAs get an apathetic shrug from me. Hell, Kanye made them worth paying attention to last year.

Aw, don't be so miserable :P I can agree that it only awards the popular but I always find that it's worth a watch, however it probably won't be as controversial as last year.

Despite not liking most of the acts up for awards, I always saw Gaga as actually quite good. Her acoustic songs and "rock 'n' roll" style songs are worth a listen as I'm not a huge fan of her more disco stuff.

Talking of shit things/bad music, the more I hear California Gurls by Katy Perry, the more I enjoy it.

Katy Perry will eventually destroy your soul. Then eat it.

Well ... that's their purpose, isn't it? To reward popular music?

It's "meant" to celebrate the best music videos produced in the last year. It doesn't. It just picks videos from popular artists, so the general public will tune in and feel involved.

Which is silly.

I could go into the whole debate about subjectivity when it comes to music etc., but I won't. I don't really care enough about it.

It's not even called for though. I'm just stating fact.

The VMA's (and most other MTVesque award shows) don't accept anything to be nominated other than what has been a smash hit, or at least by huge, radio-friendly unit-shifters. I don't believe anyone in their right mind can say that this video should be nominated as one of the finest of the year:

It's in the best female video category, over much more deserving people like M.I.A, who, despite the controversy surrounding her video, managed to produce (well the director) a thought-provoking and original video that actually means something. It doesn't really matter if you like her music or not, the video for Born Free is much more compelling as a piece of art than anything on that list.

(Just as an example)

It's just a show designed to get record labels most valuable artists into the public eye even more. These awards don't mean anything.

That M.I.A. video, are you perhaps talking about the one where all the red-heads are taken away and although I haven't seen the entire video in full there is supposedly a lot of violence.

Good points btw. I found myself agreeing with them.

EDIT: oh, never mind. I only noticed the link after I posted

Speaking of, the Beach Boys are requesting rights on the song as they sang it first and they spelt it correctly.

Its a very mediocre song but I expect that kind of thing from her. And amusingly:

"Yes, I said I kissed a girl. But I didn't say I kissed a girl while f**king a crucifix."

Nice to know where the line is.
