Shino Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) Its bullshit really, and has nothing to do with sales or innovation, implying that games such as Killzone2, Uncharted or inFAMOUS have never been done before is idiotic, they're just better, bigger and prettier. In fact, the Wii has become home to many creative and different tittles exactly due to its difference and limitations. But, it somehow became cool for a moment to diss the Wii among the hardcore, a mentality largely propagated by the (American) gaming media which doesn't really know how to handle a company with such closed studios and a Japanese way of thinking. Thankfully, that's changing. Edit: Edited May 24, 2009 by Shino
mcj metroid Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I find myself agreeing with Daft's posts. I mean, look the Gamecube; do you see Nintendo taking risks with games like Four Sword Adventures on the Wii? wario shake ? A 2d game as well? the entire wii WAS a massive risk, thereofre most of the early wii titles were risk.. I;m not sure if i;m agreeing with you here. Just to counter, WiiSports came with the system and this is why it was a brilliant move. WiiSport sells the system and it's fountainhead status combined with the frightening popularity of the Brain Training titles really doesn't amount to Wii Fit and Wii Music, that later of which is definitely not costly to produce, posing that much of a risk. Simply put, they made perfect business sense based on emerging trends. ] ah I see you have already answered my top post more or less someone had said it before me..
Hero-of-Time Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I still think the likes of No More Heroes and MadWorld would sell better on the PS3/360. Also MH3 would be far more suited to to the other 2 consoles due to the way the online is setup. Still, I had a chuckle at Shinos post
tapedeck Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (Awesome post Shino.) Brilliant. Although it's unlike anything in the history of electronic entertainment, at times the Wii situation has elements of the Dreamcast, just because it's (at times) lauded by the 'hardcore'. Just like the DC, the Wii will probably become one of the greatest second-hand machines ever. People will hunt down titles like De Blob, No More Heroes, Madworld etc citing their "freshness" and "genius". The fact that the machine seems to be a platform for classic remakes such as NiGHTS, Samba De Amigo, Okami, Resi series, Metroid Series, Jungle Beat, Pikmin 1+2 etc also seems to hint that the console will be one which will be in the public (and gamers) eyes for far longer than any of us may currently imagine. Make no doubt about it. Wii is bigger than any of us possibly realise. We should just enjoy the ride and realise that the console is still going from strength to strength. (Like the DS.) Some of the titles we are getting offer us more choice than ever before on a Nintendo platform. And at times I feel Wii has FORCED developers to become more innovative. Some have embraced this and some have used Wii as an entry point to release garbage. But, for the most part I feel this is a good thing for the industry. Shakin' it up, offering choice and creating new gamers. Last gen was quite 'boring' in regards to genres (that's why the Dreamcast still stands out imo as it had freshness) yet Wii has changed everything this gen. All for the better. It's possibly the best console I've ever owned. - Mainly because the Virtual Console has DKC 1/2/3 Yes...I just went there.
Hero-of-Time Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 The Wii has a long way to go before it dethrones the Dreamcast, for me at least. The DC gave me ALOT of great fighting games along with playing a stupid amount of hours on PSO. Add to this Sonic Adventure 1+2, Virtua Tennis, Jet Set Radio, MSR, Chu Chu Rocket and Shenmue and we can see why the DC is held in high regard among gamers. The thing about the DC was that Sega was pretty much backed into a corner and they were forced to produce some quality titles, much like Nintendo had to do in the N64 and Cube era.

Fierce_LiNk Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Shino: Sweet gentle love. One day, I will penetrate you, and I promise not to make you cry, for it will be sweet, my sweet gentle lover. HWOAR HWOAR! I remember counting my Wii games collection and comparing it to my Cube lot. Bearing in mind, there are tons of games for both consoles that I just didn't get around to owning, and also the Wii is my Uni console, meaning I haven't bought as many games for it as I would have liked due to a rapeage of funds. I'd have to say that the Wii is fastly becoming my most played Nintendo console, just after the N64. It's catching up. I'll probably surpass 30 Wii games by the end of the year, and that's on a tight budget maybe. I don't even own Mario Kart or Metroid Prime 3. But, what I can say is that some of the games that I have bought are definitely different, and are probably what I'd call "great games." ExciteTruck and de Blob are two games that I do not believe that I saw on the list, and I'd say that they are both great games. There's also a few that I'd say are good games, kinda like Dewy's Adventure, although I need to play more of it until I decide whether or not it is "great" or just "very good". Heh. And, to be honest, there will always be people who knock the Wii, just like there will be people who knock Manchester United. If it's successful, it's instantly cool to hate it. There's also the fact that...I don't honestly think that the people who knock the Wii are the ones who will actually go out on a limb and buy these "different" or "great" games in the first place. Looking at that Wii games collection thread a few days back, you can blatantly tell that there are great games already on the system, but people choose to ignore them.
Daft Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Well I was just explaining your 'Lazy Gamer' syndrome. It would probably be more accurately called 'Mass Gamer' syndrome.
Tigerdust Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I don't think anyone has mentioned The Godfather yet. It's a gem of a game. The first sandbox game I ever played so I guess It holds a special place in my little gaming heart. Ah, the love.
Chris the great Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 that does nicly sum up the console wars, a load of people blindly dissmissing a console as having no games whilst praying for ports of exclusive games. ive got my wii and my ps3, i still lust after a few 360 games but to be honest, ive got far to much to play to justify anouther console. i did lust after A LOT more games when all i had was my wii though :p
