Dante Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) The latest feature in Weekly Famitsu is a survey asking its readers sequels they most looking forward to. Plenty of surprises and nice reminders of series I’ve forgotten in there. Demon’s Souls, which only came out three months ago, is at 12th place, the highest among the games for current gen consoles and especially impressive in a list where most of the series voted don’t have sequels for at least 2-3 years. Sega’s Senjou no Valkyria (aka Valkyria Chronicles), released last year, is at 18th. Ryutaro Nonaka, the game’s producer, said in an interview with Famitsu earlier he didn’t want to have only one title for the series, so a sequel is pretty much confirmed. A series Nonaka previously worked on, Sakura Taisen, is the highest voted entry in the chart with most of the readers say that they want a proper ending to the series they love so much. Besides Sakura Taisen, Sega has four other titles in the chart, which is dominated by Square Enix, who have 11 titles. Capcom and SCEJ share the second spot with seven titles. For the top 15 titles, Famitsu actually contacted their publishers for comments but most of them answered through their PR, who obviously won’t say anything interesting. However, Hideo Kojima did answer personally for Z.O.E, which he says is a title he constantly getting requests for sequel. If there is an opportunity, he would love to make a sequel that will make use of the latest high-end development tools. However, due to the amount of works he has now, it’s a dream that he can’t realized for now but it’s something that he will always keep in mind. 1. Sakura Taisen (aka Sakura Wars) 267 votes 2. Strange Cookie Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) 2 Shenmue Sega 3 Okami Capcom Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Oh, a million times yes. If one of these two ever come out (however unlikely) and live up to their legacy, I can die a happy games. Well, after playing the titles, ofcourse. It's be pretty pointless otherwise. It's only a shame they forgot Luigi's Mansion at the top. Must be a misprint or something. Edited May 4, 2009 by Strange Cookie
Jonnas Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I believe, Skies of Arcadia is far too low on that list. Must be a typo. They meant "3", not "37", evidently.
Retro_Link Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 OK I haven't even heard of a lot of those games! But yes we need more Shenmue, Skies and Jet Set Radio!
S.C.G Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) What about Burning Rangers? I would love a sequel or at least a remake / re-release of it. Also a Billy Hatcher sequel could be awesome, the original had a lot of good ideas in it, the controls would need to be vastly improved though. Edited May 4, 2009 by S.C.G
Hero-of-Time Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Big respect to Gotcha Force! I loved playing that on the Cube, its such an underrated gem.
James McGeachie Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'd definitely like a next gen version of games like Z.O.E, Breath of Fire and Jet Set Radio. Games like Okami I think work a whole lot better as a single, stand-alone title though.
STOOPIDDITTIES Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Jet Set Radio on Wii please. The controls would be simply too perfect. And as always Shenmue, but that will forever be a dream... *Sigh*
Guest Captain Falcon Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I swear more people voted for an Okami sequel than the number that actually bought it...
Ganepark32 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 @ S.C.G - I'm sure I heard something about a new Burning Rangers title coming to the Wii like over a year ago now. But seeing as nothing has been mentioned of it since then, I guess its come to nothing.
Cube Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I don't think I've played any of the games/series mentioned in the list (most I've never heard of). I'm guessing games that'll obviously get sequels at some point (i.e. Mario and Zelda) are excluded.

Ah right, that is a shame in that case because I think a sequel or even a remake could work well on the Wii, such an underrated game.
Nolan Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I've heard of and played most of those titles actually. I agree with plenty of them, but not all. Games like Okami are just fine being single titles. I'm actually getting a little annoyed at this constant sequel era we seem to be entering. Every big game seems to have an ending open for a sequel, it's fine and dandy but really what happened to a little closure where you play through the game and that's that. A sequel is not necessary or needed, it may be nice to have one I'd certainly buy a Okami sequel but I don't think it's needed. This goes for things like Bioshock, upon hearing about Bioshock 2 the only real thought was "What? Why does it need one? I bet they screw this up." Things like Shenmue need a sequel because the story isn't finished and was never intended to be done in only two games, EDF is just too much fun to not want a new version with bigger and more bugs and perhaps online co-op. Seiken Densetsu needs to be left alone by SE since all they've done since Seiken Densetsu 3 is run it in the ground. Oh, if you were wondering, Seiken Densetsu is the Mana series so I'm betting some of you can claim to know another game from the list now
