Gizmo Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I don't like VD. As has been said it's just over the top commericalisation. I've always been of the train of thought that its better to buy someone a gift a month later, when it's for no reason other than that you wanted to buy them a present. Doing it on VD feels forced too me. That said, I might actually have something going this year, which makes a change. I shall hopefully know on Monday :p
Beast Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I actually realised today that this would be my first Valentine's Day ever that I'm not single. As I agree with the people saying it's commercialised, it don't hurt doing something on the day, lol. I'm probably going to take my girlfriend to StarCity (have some drinks, go to the cinema, play in the arcades, go bowling and shit like that, lol).

She'll be very impressed and it doesnt cost that much, no more than a good meal in a restaurant would cost anyway.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 On my Singles Awareness Day? I think I'll play some videogames for a change. But it's as you guys say. It's as commercial as Xmas.
Raining_again Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 On my Singles Awareness Day? I think I'll play some videogames for a change. But it's as you guys say. It's as commercial as Xmas. Single awareness day, awesome. I think I shall call it that from now on! Kudos dude. I dunno to me it seems satisfactory enough to treat your loved one on either their birthday, or at a TOTAL spur of the moment type thing. Not a day scheduled in your calendar! =) Makes it seem so routine and forced.
Wesley Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I'd like to point out that often I do cast a single day to just spend time with my girlfriend; spend the day together and go for meal, etc. But to then decide that on Valentines Day we shouldn't do anything because gift companies got involved seems senseless. It's the exact same for every other holiday and personal occasion. And as for spending sums of money, you're no more forced to than any other day you'd spend with your other half. But, of course, that doesn cost money. Because it's life. Shit costs money.
Beast Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Splash out for the special gold cinema tickets. She'll be very impressed and it doesnt cost that much, no more than a good meal in a restaurant would cost anyway. I was thinking of doing that. The first time we met, we were going to see Twilight but it was fully booked so I might try to take her to see that :p
Daft Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I remember my last Valentine's Day. I met Gaspard Auge from Justice. Not sure anything is going to top that... ...ever...
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Ahh, if Ine was nearby, it would have been a nice opportunity to do something romantic, like we did for our Christmas meal. Maybe I'll save this day, and this we'll have a Valentines Day: The Sequel when we next meet. Or, that could just be a romantic night, without the Valentines Day title attached. It's a Saturday, right? I'll probably just treat it as a normal Saturday. But, extra special self-sex at night. Hoo-har.
EEVILMURRAY Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I tihnk I'll probably spend the day...alone in a dark room. in my pants. crying. Bullshit. You'll be round Jays' like you always seem to be eyeing up his package. Or the other way around. I don't like VD. As has been said it's just over the top commericalisation. I've always been of the train of thought that its better to buy someone a gift a month later, when it's for no reason other than that you wanted to buy them a present. Doing it on VD feels forced too me. Same with Christmas, but I'm sure you/many others still buy presents for people.
The Bard Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Gonna go to a thai restaurant and then go to the O2 arena to chill for a bit. Was originally gonna get her Sims 3 for valentines, but since that's been delayed, I'm slightly screwed for ideas.

Was originally gonna get her Sims 3 for valentines, but since that's been delayed, I'm slightly screwed for ideas. Some fine wine. Barry White and all your smoothest moves. SORTED! Personally it shall be a standard Saturday. I expected to be booted out of the flat but as my housemate's boyfriend is playing rugby (about 200-odd miles away) they're celebrating a few weeks later.

This is true, but I think Christmas is a bit more meaningful due to its connection with children / childhood etc. Valentines Day is like Christmas times two without any children.
Raining_again Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 This is true, but I think Christmas is a bit more meaningful due to its connection with children / childhood etc. Valentines Day is like Christmas times two without any children. And christmas doesnt make people feel isolated, like valentines day does to single people
Wesley Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Even though the highest suicide rate is around the Christmas period.
Kirkatronics Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 And christmas doesnt make people feel isolated, like valentines day does to single people Christmas is worse, its more in your face. What if people cant afford gifts, lost their family, dont have a family? That can be worse than being single. Even though the highest suicide rate is around the Christmas period. That is true, but sad
EEVILMURRAY Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 And christmas doesnt make people feel isolated, like valentines day does to single people That's because you have a home and a [loving?] family.

People who are desperate will wear red, a few orange, and shy people will be green.
DomJcg Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 In reality it will be the other way around.People who are desperate will wear red, a few orange, and shy people will be green. You what? why will the desperate wear red? my friends going to wear red and he doesn't want to be with anyone...
Kirkatronics Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 You what? why will the desperate wear red? my friends going to wear red and he doesn't want to be with anyone... With stuff like this its usually the case, people are denial lol. There are always exceptions, though.
DomJcg Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 With stuff like this its usually the case, people are denial lol. There are always exceptions, though. still not sure i understand?
Wesley Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 ? Eh ? It's the traffic light game. Green for single and looking. Yellow for tempted. And red for not interested. Jesus the traffic light game depresses me. Here's a colour to ensure that we can meet on a firm basis of understanding and fuck knowing it's absolutely fine. I'll wear Green and a Go sign, the Go sign means you can enter me without protection... Oh society... where are we going...
DomJcg Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 So why is war saying red means you want some :S
