Broadband providers

Im thinking of changing providers as im fed up with AOL finally!!

I was looking at sky broadband as im a sky customer so can get it fairly cheaply but I was also looking at 02 Broadband as they aslo offer cheap contracts to 02 customers.

Any opinions on either of them or any recommendations for other ISP's?

Thanks.

It depends if you want cheap or if you want good. AFAIK Sky, Orange, AOL, Talk Talk etc are all pretty much in the same league. It's basic broadband sold cheaply, and the service isn't exactly top-notch.

Be-There are probably the most recommended provider. Good speeds, good customer service, reliable. Only downside is being more expensive than the competitors, £15-£20+ a month

I'm with Nildram and they're good. But ...

It all depends on your needs as to what service we should recommend you. Are you a heavy downloader? Videos? Music? Gaming? How much do you think you use? Do you want a phone deal tied in with it? 12 month contract or month by month?

I'm thinking of changing from Nildram (as it's a bit expensive) probably to either Vispa or Naims.

I would agree with this.

I recently migrated to them from Orange and the difference has been amazing. I currently get 17mB for only £18 p/mth with free tech support and it has made using the internet a pleasure again.

They do appear to be having a few DNS issues at the moment though which have resulted in a couple of short outtages but hopefully these will be resolved soon enough.

You mention O2 - from what I understand they have recently acquired BE and the service is pretty similar so it could be worth chancing it with them especially as you will get a good deal from being a mobile customer.

Thanks for your opinions.

As some of you have mentioned 02 now own Be and nearly everyone I have spoken to have recommended both of them to me over any other provider.

Think im gonna go with the 02 £7.50 a month deal seen as my D/L speed is only around 5mb anyway.

Thanks again :)

I had a drop today -_-; i don't know why..

I am wondering if speedtest is a bit overloaded , although they aren't always the most reliable anyway due to so many variables.

I got BE to enable fastpath today (annoyingly they did it as I was midway through an online game of Madden , so thats another DC and DNF on my record) and as a result I managed to get an extra 2meg on my synch , so now the router is synching at 19meg , but I have run a few speed tests today and the D/L results have varied at anything between 8-15 megs , whereas previously they were consistent at 12-13 sometimes higher. Upload has remained consistent though.

Don't consider Orange at all (Not that you were), we're trying to cancel our broadband with them and go to Sky and it's almost impossible to find the right people to talk too. They just keep sending you different numbers to ring.

DONT GO WITH SKY...honestly just don't.

Last year orange went down on us for no reason, so we kept waiting and ringing and ringing them eventually we got the money reduced (they charge you for leaving...50quid!), so we went to sky..

at 7oclock when theres too many people on it cuts you off so you have to turn off the modem and on again so you can get back on. Now it's gone down because of the earthquake, it's irratating, the customer service is great but the wireless is crap...just don't go for it. Try virgin.

No idea who they use, but I bet the bills mahoosive.

They're using BT. At least that's what it says on the image.

I've been thinking about getting a new mobile, so I might have to go with O2 and switch ISPs if they're actually decent. Although typically their broadband service isn't available near me yet.
