I've had about 12 or so driving lessons, but i havn't had one for a month because of being abit low on money since christmas.

My driving instuctor was sarcarstic, miserable, old, fool. So today i decided to swap to a different one. This new guy sounds young and friendly and also has a brand new Corsa. :D

I've gotten to 11 lessons, my tutor is a 50ish year old, gay man. He's not camp, but he's a fantastic tutor, he's one who will teacher the mother and father then the children. He taught my mum when she had a crash so she could have the confidence to get back on the motorway and taught my sister.

Right now I can do reverse round a corner and three point turns.

My tutor drives one of the new ford fiestas. Bit uncomfy for my back, but other than that it's a loverly car ^.^

I'm starting this month and am a little worried to be honest. I don't really know anything in terms of how long it will take etc, and how much it will cost. I'm not so worried with the driving itself, I'm quite good at stuff like that after only a few goes.

So what's the average amount of lessons needed before taking a test sensibly speaking?

about 20-30, don't worry so much, I worried too, infact I didn't even want to drive a car! Now I'm alot more natural with it. If you start now and do well you should pass within 6months, if not then slightly longer.

I started in october and may pass by march, that should give a rough indication

I was so completely nervous when taking my driving test it was unreal. The pressure I had to apply to the clutch was making my leg shake because of the nerves...and let's just say that driving under the influence of this degree of nervousness is just as responsible as driving after having six shots of jack to suppress it.

Anyhoo I scared the furry balls off my driving instructor and got 2 (read it! 2!) majors. Cut in front of someone leaving a duel-carriageway (I panicked) and went right in the left hand lane on a roundabout (I could have sworn that this was a strange roundabout with special lane rules on it :P I wasn't aware that nerves turned me into a complete fool).

Anyways, the guy told me I failed....I booked another one.

Fortunately this time I got a kindly old man that had been an examiner for a while. The young ones tend to be very by the book: "A FAIL IS A FAIL" type of fire and brimstone "the bible is literal" I cast you into the fires of mount doom and YOU SHALL NOT PASS!! ...kind of examiners. But the older ones care if you're a good driver, and have seen enough to distinguish what is nerves and what is bad driving.

Anyhoo on this test he asked me to pull in and I bailed (my clutch foot was still shaking) and I hit the curb with my front wheel (OMG MAJOR ZOMG)...

After that I thought I had failed, so my nerves had gone and I just wanted to finish the damn test. I drove perfectly (as I would do when not getting examined) for the rest of the test and the beautiful bald behemoth of a man passed me like the driving minx I am....

Anyhoo there is my long and sensual story of my driving test, hope it wasn't too long....maybe I should have drawn pictures :P

I had 13 hours of lessons with someone a couple of years ago and hated it due to him being a tosser, so I quit and never got back into it until last August. Picked it up with BSM really quickly and by November I'd passed and owned a car and everything.

Best advice for tests is simply, carry on if you make a mistake. If you think you've failed don't give up because you might not have.

The average is 45 hours according to the DSA. But it depends on the person. I've had some pass in 20 hours, others in 150 - just depends.

Anybody can feel free to ask me, either on this thread or a pm if there's anything you don't understand, or if you want to know about anything about the tests. I should be able to help!

Passing a cbt was alot easier, but to me the cbt should be alot longer. Also you get taught is one or two things then its out on the road for two hours, then done.

To be that shouldn't happen, you're on a little thing that can get crushed, espcially when alot of people riding them have never had any experince on the road before. It frightens me alot, my dna 50 was a pretty damn big scooter, but there's some who change their scooters so they go over the 30mph speed limit... why I don't know, but I hope somebody pulls them over.

Everyone with a scooter/ped that i know has it de-restricted allowing them to do around 60mph. No-one seems to care.

I was considering getting a bike, but when Moogle broke both his arms it put me off abit :P

National average is 45 hours lessons with 20 hours of private practise or something like that

Thats crazy, my tutor said the majority of people he teaches has a test before there 30th hour. I had mine after 26. Though he was amazing!

Has anyone passed their test, then not driven for ages? I passed my test last month for the first time(after like 45 hours of lessons though), but haven't driven since. I'm looking for a cheap old car(<500) so I can get 3rd party fire and theft, then no claims, so that insurance'll go down within a few years, but also cheap so that if I mash it up I'm not too out of pocket, but not having much luck. My worry however is, that by time I get a car again, I'll be a bit shit at driving(wasn't too confident a driver tbh). Then again, I think my instructor made out I was worse than I was so that I would pass well. I had the most lessons out of everyone I know too.

I passed almost, if not over, a year ago and have only driven a couple of times since then. Can't afford the damn insurance. I'll be more of a liability to the insurers when they finally decide I am old enough to not be a liability -.-

had about 20 lessons and passed my theory and practical tests first time ~pride~ the only thing i had trouble with was reversing around a corner (until the day of my test, when something inside my brain snapped into place and i could just do it O__o) and THE SPEED LIMIT >__< i didnt know if this particular road on my test was a 20 or 30 zone, and i knew if i went OVER it would mean an instant fail~ so i stayed at 20, which annoyed the instructor - he said if there'd been a car behind me that i was holding up he'd have failed me (grumpy git~) but thankfully there wasn't, so i passed!

i was thinking of taking a motorway lesson until i accidentally wound up on the motorway while driving home from jamba's house on christmas day X___X "damn you, tomtom i told you not to take me this way!!" it's so easy! i dont know what i was worried about - M1 FTW :yay:
