Happenstance Posted September 8, 2007 Share Posted September 8, 2007 There is really absolutely no reason to be excited about a second live-action Street Fighter movie. Video game movies both suck and blow. The first one was terrible and a completely unfitting swansong for Raul Julia. Most people who remember going to see the first one should really know better by now. And yet, the news fills our inner child with some sense of cautious joy. This leads us to suspect our inner child may have some kinda luhrnun' diffeecuhltays. The new film will be directed by – and we directly quote Variety here – "action specialist" Andrzej Bartkowiak. This would be the specialist who directed Doom and Romeo Must Die, which were not special in the good way. Bartkowiak will be looking to be somewhat more successful than the Jean Claude Van Damme/Kylie Minogue starring incarnation, which took just $33million at the US box office. Justin Marks, who is also writing He-Man for Warner Bros, is currently working on the script. This take on the game will centre on Chun Li, the giggly Chinese girl who was the best character in the game – so, good choice on protagonist – and also one of the least practically dressed. The film will follow her journey for justice (justice for what?) armed only with her twin hair buns made of fury and legs made of spinning bird kicks. Fanelia Posted September 8, 2007 Share Posted September 8, 2007 one can only hope they cast jessica simpson for the part of chun li, johnny knoxville for the part of ryu and of course the rock for the part of blanka. this has vast potential. chun li: ryu: and of course, blanka: any other suggestions? i was also thinking of steve bescemi as dhalsim and joe pesci as edmund honda. there are some similarities to those characters no producer can ignore. The thought of that screams utter "SHITE". If they try to make this a fan-service they are setting themselves up for a fall. Anime works in this mannerism as boundaries can be broken. Live action just doesn't work when it comes to the unrealistic video game world. As previously stated, having Ryu/Ken/Dan on a path along the original idea of the game would have been far better. I feel THIS would work: [list=]The more fights that are won by (insert character) the more money the character attains and complexities of richness enter. Richness/Happiness/loss of fighting attitude (ala Rocky) works. Keep it simple though! [list=]Guile MUST be considered as a NAILS character!![list=]Beating up cars/brick walls in frustration MUST NOT occur. And so on.... See? Much better. Saying that....I actually enjoyed the Mortal Kombat films for their....erm....Actually, they were just half decent brawl movies like a Steven Seagull movie. Nowt spesh. There is no denying that Nothing is worse than street fighter. I think even super mario bros beats it. Although I haven't seen it i can imagine house of the dead being worse maybe. Instead, the whole franchise will reportedly be getting the reboot treatment, a la Casino Royale and Batman Begins. "The movie is not going to be a prequel, sequel, or in any form be related to the previous 2 movie. The report adds, "The reason it is taking so long is the script, so many parts are involved. The team at Threshold (the ones that holds the right to MK) are constantly writing drafts (along with the director), which they have to send to Midway (makers of the game) so the creator of the game (Ed Boon) adds notes and some input to the draft, then to the studio (rumored to be Lionsgate at this moment)." Moviehole also points out that the film's director, Mink, has apparently been posting comments about the long-awaited project over at the IMDB.com message boards. In his post, Mink revealed, "Casting adjourned for the moment before we got that far. As I have said in other posts we went back to the script after the initial movement on the project and have been rewriting (per the parties involved Threshold, Studio, Midway) since so no additional casting thoughts and or processes were even continued. As soon as the script is done we will proceed with casting again and all options in all casting areas are still on the table 100%."
