Hero-of-Time Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 According to gonintendo in the new issue of Nintendo Power a small section claimed that Geometry Wars is being developed for the Wii and DS! It is apparently being handled by Kuju of Battalion Wars fame.
blender Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 PC Requirements --------------------- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) 512MB RAM DirectX 9.0c DirectX Video Card (128MB memory, Shader Model 2.0 support required) http://pc.gamezone.com/gamesell/p28459.htm Not going to be the same game on the ds for sure
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Uh, I think it is a Virtual Console game. It was released on XBLA.
Guest Jordan Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 That doesn't look... half as good. Geomatery Wars was made for the 360, it has NO slowdown and it looks astounding. It just ain't gunna be the same without 720p or 1080i...
Dyson Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Actually, it was originally a PC game called Grid Wars. I have a copy on my PC. Good game to be honest.
James McGeachie Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Geomatery Wars was made for the 360, Well I guess if you ignore the other versions from the previous Project Gotham Xbox games yeah.
Dyson Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 No m8 Grid Wars was a pc clone of Geomerty Wars. You're right, apologies.
pedrocasilva Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 It just ain't gunna be the same without 720p or 1080i... Who cares, Wiimote is in. Besides the game seems to be "being made for wii", instead of ported, at the very least it'll be expanded; "extensive single player"-thingy I'm looking at you! It has potential to be even better IMO. I'm wondering if this will appear downloadable through the upcoming Nintendo download service though.
blender Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Am I the only one that's excited about this? just play "grid wars" and feel happy now. the hype train is fully booked
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 That doesn't look... half as good.Geomatery Wars was made for the 360, it has NO slowdown and it looks astounding. It just ain't gunna be the same without 720p or 1080i... Not to mention the fact that it's free online and what, £3 on XBLA? Are they releasing this over the Virtual Console? I though that was just for old games. It's not the same on a non-HD tv, it's one game in which it's sheer beauty really does make it what it is.

That could be said from seeing every game in HD and then in SD. If you see it in SD from the beginning you won't care. If Wiimote is well implemented I could say in the future it's just not the same thing to play with a Xbox 360 joystick. Not to mention DS version will be the most inferior of all those (technically), and I'm still kinda interested in seeing that. As for a hypothetical download... “(Concerning Impossible Mission as a download for the Wii) I wouldn’t say Virtual Console, because they’re not actually calling it the Virtual Console, but in the next few months there will be various announcements, I’m sure made by Nintendo that will offer users a system that will be similar to that of what Microsoft is offering at present, which is the ability to download content, which you guys are able to do, but they’ve got to set up their various systems.Source: http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=7643 Not VC, supposedly; but a download service nonetheless. I dunno though... if Geometry Wars will be available through store SKU or Online Download... or Both.
Shino Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I don't care what you purist think, I'm loving this news! And yes I played it on HD 1680x1050.

Tyson Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Not every gives a flying turd about HD. I personally don't have the money to waste.
DCK Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Good news, good news. Have never played the 360 version but I hear it's great.
flameboy Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 To be honest, I don't think this will be worth it, if it comes out on the Wii Shop I bet we will end up paying more than it is on Live... Surely there is a flash version (obviously not with as good graphics) already that would work on the Wii browser?
Guest Jordan Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 What the hell is it even about? Theres no story. You have a ship and you get chased by other ships inside a square grid and all you have is a gun that randomly changes between two types every 10K points and bombs. Yeah, thats basically it. All enemies are controlled depending on your own movements bar a couple of types. Basically, enemies come in "swarms" hundreds and hundreds at a time. The music is fantastic, the graphics are astoundlying pretty and the gameplay is timeless.
Aimless Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Having played Retro Evolved in both HD and SD, I honestly think it makes little difference. It plays exactly the same either way, and it also looks great in both. I wonder what the single-player mode is going to be like. As they're including the earlier incarnations, I'd assume it's going to be something a bit different to them, perhaps like the level-based Tanks game in Wii Play. I assume the ship will be controlled by pointing with the Wiimote, allowing you to easily pull off loops and weaving, with firing set to the Nunchuk's analogue and bombs set to C or Z. I wouldn't be surprised if there are multiple control options, though, including dual-analogue control using the Classic Controller.
Gizmo Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 If I didn't have a 360, I would be really excited for this. But the Wiimote won't make enough for a difference to justify buying twice

I could bet the default controls will be controlling the ship with the joystick and the Wiimote pointer to direct the shooting vector. Same goes for DS, but with the stylus. I play it like that on the PC (with the mouse) and it feels natural like that.
