Charlie Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I dunno if that overly long space meant you were joking, but in any case, she is awesome. I blew a mild rage when someone (one of the sacred 8 people with decent music taste in the year) in art class compared Katy Perry to Alanis. Nah, it was to emphasise my point about U2's new single. Alanis is awesome. I really like the style sort of industrial, heavy but danceable (kind of like Pop again?). But the song itself doesn't really get to me so far. Yeah they're going back to the Achtung Baby/Pop style of music but a little bit more funky I think. Can't wait for the album now! Listened to the single a few times and it is growing on me. I remember I didn't really like Vertigo at first either.
Dante Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 *nods* Got it, yep. I don't know the original, but I love their version of Knife. Same here. I hope you got CSS remix of Bloc Party's Mercury.
Platty Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Anyone listened to Adam Ficek (drummer from Babyshambles) side project Roses, Kings and Castles? I'm loving the album. Very Chillaxing. Here is a video of Entroubled. Pretty cool video and song.
Pyxis Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Have any of you guys head the 3 new Gorillaz demos that have been released for Damon's 3rd Gorillaz album? They're pretty interesting! It's just Damon messing around and the demos are really long, but there's some good ideas in there. The songs are called called Electric Shock, Style and Broken. I'm pretty disappointed if this means a delay to the next blur album.
Daft Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I'll have a listen to those Gorillaz demos later if I remember. Absolutely fallen in love with The Whitest Boy Alive's new album 'Rules' that has been leaked. Anyone listen to their first album 'Dreams'? Any good?
Coolness Bears Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I've been listening to White Lies. Good Stuff. I'm on my second play through of the album and I'm definately enjoying it more the 2nd time. I'll continue listening to them tomorrow!
Slaggis Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I'm having another love affair with Katy perry's "Ur So Gay". It's brilliant. Also, the instrumental for I Kissed a Girl is kind of orgasmic. It sounds like a completely difference song, with the lyrics removed. It's great revision music! "You're so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal, you're so skinny you should really supersize the deal. Secretly you're so amused that nobody understands you........You're so gay and you don't even like boys!". I do in fact love it/her.

Paj! Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Who picks this crap? They usually get a few decent/accurate nominations in, but there's very little decency this year. I love how theres a critic award, the only one that seem to acknowledge any good talent (The final 3 in that category were Florence, Little Boots and White Lies), when awards should really only be chosen by critics in any case. This is just a popularity contest (the Brits).
chairdriver Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I loved seeing Florence & The Machine and Santogold, but all the other nominations are depressing. WHY DOES THE GENERAL POPULACE LOVE SHIT MUSIC?

Paj! Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That's a legendary classic though. Plus, if that had never come out, she wouldn't have become the national treasure she is now.
Ashley Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Coldplay aren't a group, they're an abomination.
GothicPlague Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Coldplay aren't a group, they're an abomination. Lets be fair they're gods fucking gift compared to Scouting for Girls.
chairdriver Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Billie is lovely though, and that song is lovely to hear. And she was like 15 when she did that - let's be fair. Lets be fair they're gods fucking gift compared to Scouting for Girls. But that's like comparing Hepatitis to AIDS. At the end of the day you'd prefer to have Hepatitis, if you had to have one, but then you'd prefer to have neither, realistically.
Ashley Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Lets be fair they're gods fucking gift compared to Scouting for Girls. Scouting for Girls aren't self obsessed egomaniac God-complex suffering Bono-wannabes (and I hate Bono too) who name their children after fruit :p (Haggis' last.fm is highly amusing at the moment: I Kissed A Girl. I Think I'm Ready U R So Gay U R So Gay ....I Kissed A Girl)
Slaggis Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Haha! I was literally just using a song to desribe exactly what my post would have said. I wasn't insulting the song...though, it does grate this many years on. Scouting for Girls annoy me more. Literally, the most shiteous band in existence, even when compared to Coldplay who manage to both fuck me off, and destroy any happy feelings I once possesed.
chairdriver Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I love how obvious it is that she's lip-synching.

Literally, the most shiteous band in existence, even when compared to Coldplay who manage to both fuck me off, and destroy any happy feelings I once possesed. Yeah, Coldplay make good music, I just don't really like it. Scouting For Girls have one instrumental they add new (all similar) lyrics and melodies too.
Ashley Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That song is classically awful and Billie Piper is indeed great. Im glad she didn't become another nobody. She hasn't aged much in the face. And I feel old for remembering when it came out :/ Also it amuses me that its a sci-fi-esque vid. (and yes, I stopped listening to Gotan Project for that. I think its justified for a trip down memory lane)
GothicPlague Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I like Scouting For Girls.... Would it be harsh if I were to tell you to kill yourself?
Paj! Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Would it be harsh if I were to tell you to kill yourself? Yes, but to be fair to him, his music taste doesn't exactly gel with those that are generally considered to have decent music taste. : peace: ---- ZOMG Epilepsy Is Dancing by Antony & The Johnsons Wonderful new video from him/them. The album is amazing btw. (The Crying Light 8.6 on Pitchfork) Not safe for work.
Eddage Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yes, but to be fair to him, his music taste doesn't exactly gel with those that are generally considered to have decent music taste. : peace: Oh no I've got shit music taste... who the hell cares? I like what I like even if it isn't some piece of lyrical/musical splendour that will transcend all of time. If it's catchy and a bit of fun then I'll usually like it. It's not as if I'm ridiculously close minded and wont listen to new things. I've downloaded quite a lot of stuff after people have made suggestions in here (e.g. Tegan and Sara), but to be honest most of the times the things that are suggested aren't really my cup of tea. I mean, sure it's pretty good but I'd rather listen to the fun "shit" music any day!
