It being a cross gen game is a real shocker! Speaks volumes about MS' confidence about selling their games as Xbone exclusives...

That's just nuts! Looks like MK8 is gonna beat Titanfall after all! -
Well that's nice. I wasn't a big fan of the original game, but it's nice to see them get to make the sequel that they wanted to make (and more Wii U support is nice too )

I suspect that the PS4 and Xbone versions will fall down faster than their last gen counterparts though... After all, Titanfall 360 went on to stronger legs than its Xbone counterpart... Stands to reason that PS4/Xbone owner would be first in line for the game when they have nothing else to play and it's not hard to imagine that last gen laggards might be slower to get in on the action. -
True, but it was always one of MK7's best tracks anyway :p That being said, the Retro tracks in MK8 in general didn't get nearly as much of an overhaul as the Retro tracks in MK7 (save for a few like Rainbow Road N64 and Toad's Turnpike). In general, they don't make as good use of the new mechanics as the Retro tracks in MK7 did IMO...

The percentage increase doesn't really tell us much, but the fact that it's the 2nd biggest launch for a Mario Kart game ever in the UK is definitely a positive sign True, but I suppose we can note that MK8 has been in the top 5 of Amazon's best sellers for the past 2 weeks though. That's something that TWWHD never managed to do, not by a longshot... Edit: It seems to be doing even better on Amazon US. It's even beating Watchdogs PS4! -
And a mightily fine game it is. One of the GBA's very best!

So it's like the Fire Emblem stage from Brawl? Cool! Do we really need another Battlefield style stage though? I want to see more crazy stuff like Poke Floats!

IIRC there's one character (Eenie) that if you try to do Kinstone fusion with and then go back out of it before fusing (quite easily doable if you don't happen to have the right stone at the time), the game counts is as being done and you can never get the chance to do it ever again. You don't actually need this Kinstone Fusion to finish the game, but it's something that drives completionists nuts! There's also a few typos here and there, as well as the missing bomb bag upgrade which is supposed to be purchasable in the shop, but never actually appears, as well as some smaller minor stuff (like being able to warp from on top of the Wind Tribe's home, when you're not supposed to be able to). The EU version was basically a beta build that was rushed out to fill a release schedule gap after the DS' launch was delayed to 2005 over here. Even the Japanese version (which came out only a week or so after the EU version got released) featured these bug fixes. It's a shame that we're not getting the fixed US version, but I can understand why. These are only minor issues in general really and it is the version we got originally...

Any "Worst Moments of E3" list that does not put Konami 2010 at the top of the mountain deserves to be pelted with tomatoes, slapped by a thousand luchas and laughed off the Internet for all eternity :p

Supposedly they haven't, according to folks on Miiverse (not surprised TBH). Sucks, but at least it means that mainland Europe get their FIGS language support (which is obviously more important). Of course they could just let us choose what version we want, but that makes too much sense clearly...

Cool. Well I'll be able to make it in this Thursday at least
-
I'd like to join the league, but I would only be able to do one Thursday out of every two; joining fortnightly...

We'll just pretend that last session didn't count... yeah, that was a pretty shameful performance from me...

Yeah I agree, the coin item is kinda completely rubbish most of the time. I love the new triple mushrooms though, love how you can steal them off the other players if they don't use them in time Also, getting rid of the whole hold-one-item-while-grabbing-another was the best thing that they've ever done in regards to the item system! Love it! No more having someone in 1st place being untouchable with 6 bananas in tow! Goes a long way towards making races closer and more exciting in general

Lol! Good answer The only ones I didn't so myself were Wii (too lazy - and it's my least favourite MK game anyway) and 7 (I left it at 2 stars on purpose just to be That Guy :p - seriously! Everyone had 3 stars in that game, at least a 2 star person was different )

Can you really live without having all those star icons on the GP screen and leaving it incomplete though? You know that your OCD will get the better of you eventually

Ahh... been looking forward to seeing this... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-watch-dogs-ps3-vs-ps4 Considering that this is the big "next gen" game of the year, the one that was designed to showcase the raw power of the next gen consoles, I'm surprised at how well the PS3 version holds up in comparison. Yeah, the lighting model is simplified on the PS3 compared to the PS4, yeah the screen tearing is pretty bad, but the framerate is not terrible (it never seems to drop below 20 at worst - usually hovering around 26-30) and most of the effects are there. The resolution also isn't bad on PS3 compared to its contemporaries (1152x648 - not that far below 720p really) The article is scathing, but I don't see why. I was expecting much worse! (and don't forget that the gap between the 360 and the Xbone will be much smaller too!) Not that I'm interested in the game itself, but for it being the big next gen showcase, I was expecting a much larger gap in visuals/performance. Am I the only one who is impressed by the PS3 version here?
-
Yeah exactly. It's a piece of piss in comparison to the earlier games (especially Super Circuit, where you had to collect at last 100 coins IIRC and you weren't allowed to use items at all if you wanted that illustrious triple star rank! ) Shame that there's no more advanced form of ranking in single player GP, but I suppose that's what time trials are for!

Yeah, it's a shame but I can see why they'd omit it. Sometimes simple is just best BTW, did you notice how the Youtube upload feature seems to be an actual OS function rather than something built into MK8 when you use it? (you can even continue to watch the video and interact with it while it's uploading too!) Makes me think that this Youtube video capture stuff might be something that is available to all Wii U games in the future... (like how it is on PS4 & Xbox One) Also, speaking of the highlight reel... Am I the only one who does not miss the Cup Ceremony screen at all? I thought that its absence would bother me, but it doesn't at all! I'm actually finding myself watching the reel at the end all the time, where normally I'd always just skip the Cup Ceremony screen after watching it the first few times. With how easy it is to get 3 stars now, does it really matter any more? More or less everyone is going to have it in a few weeks or so anyway It's all about those Golden parts... (and the Gold Wheel :awesome: )
-
You and that bloody blue shell... Did you actually edit the footage together from the recording you did yourself, or did you upload that directly from MKTV? I'm wondering because I can't see any way to do the slowmo/fast forward/rewind stuff in the Youtube uploads. Seems that you can only do the full highlight clip from what I can see...
-
Glad to see you like it Grazza But if you want to use a wired connection instead of a wired one, the Wii U will automatically switch off the WiFi if you connect a Wii USB LAN adapter... ... except for the special custom WiFi for the Gamepad signal. That can't be switched off... for obvious reasons :p

That's true. It got an AWESOME new arrangement! Waaaaayyyyy better than what it got in Double Dash!
-
So yeah... This game is all that and a bag of chips! It's just simply sublime. The only things that disappoint me about it is the new battle mode (which is indeed garbage, it managed to underperform even my lowest expectations...) and the lack of friends leaderboards for Time Trials (actually, it's a bit of a step back from MK7 in general - what with you only able to race one ghost at a time here...) Everything else is just... Yup! I got them too. Awesome! 2 free games and then another £15 worth of free eShop downloads on top? (I got a physical and a digital copy of MK8), don't mind if I do! Wait... hang on a sec. How can it be more boring than the most boring track in MK history? (ignoring the whole super shortcut thing). That course desperately needed a trimming down! (and the segmentation is a clever way of doing that)

Careful guys. Don't register your Club Nintendo pins before 10AM GMT or else you wont get your free game! A lot of morons of GAF didn't read the small print...
