Super Mario Maker 2 challenge - June challenge has started!
Dcubed replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yeah, it really sucks that clear conditions cut off checkpoints. I don't quite get why they did this anyway, you have to prove that the level is beatable from all checkpoints used anyway! While it sucks about the unintended shortcut that I've left in my level, I'm not altering it. I'm taking this month's loss like a Bro! I'll probably get round to playing all of your courses either tomorrow or Friday. This week has been pretty rough for me at work; so I want to have a decent chunk of time to hand to play through all of your courses properly! -
Super Mario Maker 2 - Level Share/Feedback thread
Dcubed replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Right, I've figured out where I went wrong with it. I thought I had actually fixed this problem (this was a known problem in development), but as it turns out, I didn't account for people doing a running jump WITH a mid air spin. Fixed it now though. You aint gonna be cheesing this one anymore! As for the Boo suggestion? I like the idea, and I did actually consider it, but sadly I can't. I've used up all 100 enemy entity slots and can't get rid of any (the secret mechanism that makes the "curse" actually work uses up almost all of them already). -
Next Gen is gonna get off to a horrendously slow start... £500/600+ consoles? £65+ games with £££+++ micro transactions!? Yeah, I’m good thanks. I’ll wait.

Err... no? How did you even manage to beat it without getting them? You need them to be able to turn off the curse! -
Day 14: Best 2D Platformer There have been some really good picks so far... but they're all wrong, because the correct choice is actually Donkey Kong Country Returns The Leader Of The Bunch Absolutely pitch perfect level design, ball busting difficulty, a never-ending cavalcade of fantastic gameplay concepts; masterfully executed. Even its much lauded sequel couldn't quite match the tenacious and exquisite pacing of its Wii predecessor. The Best 2D Platformer Ever Made.

Ahh bugger! I thought I made that impossible to reach! Well, that’s what happens when you can’t get someone else to bug test it fully I suppose! TBH, you’ve basically seen the whole thing now. The Skull Lift is the last major challenge in the level anyway; after which point, you come to the area that you cheesed into anyway (It’s just basically a way back if you can’t figure out the mini puzzle at the end and to way to stop the player from pseudo soft-locking themselves). -
Day 14: Best Open World City Game This one’s easy. There’s only two good ones that have ever been made as far as I’m concerned and I’m picking the first one... Fantastic game that is every bit as fun now as it was back in 2000. And if you’re wondering what the other good Open World City Game is? Why, it’s Crazy Taxi 2 of course!

Literally a gaming life saver! Proud of ya

It’s like a group of zombies coming back from the dead! Come on in! Sorry the brains on offer are a bit small, but the laughs at our expense should make up for it

I reckon the odds are good that they’ll mention it in passing. The whole A New Age For Ubisoft shtick would fit the spirit of a next-gen blow-out “Ubisoft Forward” event to a tee after all... easy PR win here. I think it’s a bit of both. It’s absolutely a cultural thing within the western tech and video game industries in general; but the notion of Absolute Power only serves to amplify the effect. Perpetrators of sexual abuse largely do it for the feeling of power that it gives them; so becoming drunk on power will no doubt accentuate the tendency to abuse. As for a potential Mario & Rabbids sequel? I think it could have an impact... but I also reckon that if it’s currently in the works? Then it’s probably close enough to release at this point that it would be unlikely to get cancelled (the original game came out 3 years ago after all; a sequel would probably be almost ready to go by this point). Anything after that point though? Yeah, it could well impact on potential Nintendo related projects. Especially as the PS5 and Series X come rolling along.

https://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/jul/12/ubisoft-sexual-harassment-probe-claims-three-more-executives So for those who have been following the litany of industry related Sexual Harassment/Rape stories that have been crawling out of the woodwork over the past weeks; this will no doubt interest you to hear... ... for those of you that haven’t been following, or generally aren’t interested in industry gossip? This will probably still interest you! As it WILL have a significant impact on Ubisoft’s output going forward. Serge Hascoet is Creative CEO at Ubisoft and is the second most senior person at the company (second only to Yves Guillemot himself). He is the man responsible for approving game pitches, funding projects at the company and is responsible for approving/disapproving every single project that is worked on across ALL of Ubisoft’s studios. He is now gone, following stories of him raping women at Ubisoft and fostering a culture of sexual harassment and abuse. Yannis Mallat was the head of Ubisoft’s Canadian studios, and Cecile Cornet was head of Ubisoft’s HR department. They’re both gone now too. While this is of course, a positive step forward for Ubisoft; I can’t help but feel that this is all just performative, just a matter of sacrificing public lambs for the sake of saving public face. It’s obvious that Ubisoft as a whole is rotten to the core, and I doubt that much meaningful change will happen in terms of the work environment for women in the long term... but it WILL have an effect on their output as a developer and publisher no doubt. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of all the women that work there, but this industry as a whole is just SO utterly rotten that I can’t see it happening... Still. Let’s discuss!

Day 12: Favourite Awful Game My vote goes to The House of the Dead: Overkill As an arcade-style light gun game? It sucks. The pacing is terrible, the enemy/boss design is dull & uninteresting, the stages are FAR too long and it’s nowhere near as fun to play as the other HOTD games. It’s just not a very well designed light gun game all around... ... but holy shit is it funny as fuck! The writing is spectacular! And it absolutely nails the Grindhouse B-Movie vibe to a tee! The gameplay (as an arcade-style light gun game), sucks balls; but the game as a whole is hugely entertaining!

And here it is! Annoyed that I just so happened to had already made the perfect course to accompany this theme previously; I decided to make the complete opposite of that previous course for this month’s theme! Enjoy the challenge and aggravation of trying to earn one coin! -
They cancelled the new Kirby game that was coming out this year though

I expect a very down to earth and reasonable show that isn’t teaming and swarming with magic robots.

Day 11 - Favourite Town/Village Yeah, I'm predictable as fuck; it's Clock Town from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask More fabulous than a box of Tingles

Awesome! Though you've uploaded one day early! (Don't worry, I'm already done with my course, so I won't be nicking any ideas I'll play it tomorrow along with everyone else's then though) In the mean time... why not try out my other awesome courses I've made recently! Really! We have a whole other thread for them! (And it's disgusting that none of you have played Beware The Curse Of Boo yet! Seriously! Come on guys! It's even @Glen-i Approved! ) -
To be honest. As far as game news goes? There really isn't a whole lot happening in general outside of the PS5/Series X news cycle (and there's basically fucking nothing to talk about as far as Nintendo goes at the moment). I've tried making more general interest topics surrounding the industry (I'd love to talk a bit about the crazy sexual harassment cases around the game industry that have been crawling out of the woodwork recently!); but nobody ever seems to really bite... The politics & power dynamics side of the games industry is super interesting, but most people here don't seem to care for it sadly...

Day 10: Favourite End Credits Nothing tops The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for me here... Epic and absolutely beautiful in the way that best encompasses what Zelda is and should be all about!

One step closer to an Adventure of Link sequel by Wayforward!

GODDAMMIT!!! You beat me to it!! This is definitely my choice as well. WHAT THE HELL INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS!? SERIOUSLY! WHAT THE HELL!?!?
