UK price revealed... Holy shit!!!!!!! It's cheaper than a Switch!!!! I can't believe these prices!! Microsoft must be losing insane amounts of money on these things! That's squarely within impulse buy territory!!
-
To tell the truth, I generally don't like the idea of remasters and remakes. If I had the choice, I would much prefer straight emulated re-releases of games. I generally think it's disrespectful to the original game when other developers start jumping in and mucking around with someone else's game; making changes to the look and feel of the original. Much like a movie remake, most of the time, the original ends up being better anyway. Now there are cases where a remake or remaster does have a reason to exist; where there are meaningful changes made to fix significant problems with the original game (like Wind Waker's sailing, or Ocarina of Time's Iron Boots, or Link's Awakening's inventory), or meaningful additions made that greatly enhance the experience (like with Kirby Superstar Ultra). But more often than not? I'd rather just have the original, emulated on a modern platform in higher resolution; and it was fine before, because we still had access to both remakes and straight re-releases anyway. So yes, I am still really pissed off about the loss of Virtual Console. I think it's the single worst thing Nintendo has done in the past 4 years. Virtual Console was the best thing Nintendo had going and I'm still absolutely livid about losing it. To the point where I've gone and bought a Super NT, bought a Mega SG and have gone on to mod my GBA and N64 for higher quality video output; because I REALLY fucking miss the Virtual Console experience and desperately wish I could have it with the games that aren't available on the Wii/Wii U/3DS VC services! (I just recently bought Terranigma, Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia a few days ago actually! While it's great that I can play them with VC level visual quality now, I still wish I could play them on my Switch for the Suspend Saves, Portability and other associated features. It's horrendous that I now have to turn to 3rd party hardware solutions to get an approximation of that VC experience). Also, do you have any clue how expensive retro game carts have become now!? You have no idea how good we had it... Games that would otherwise cost you hundreds of pounds cost only like £6!! and were available at the push of a button!!! And it was a better experience all around than mucking around with original hardware!! It was amazing!!
-
I am! I'm really interested in seeing if they've fixed any of the (major!) issues with the original release!

You're getting three games for the price that you would normally pay for one. I wouldn't expect each individual game to get the same treatment as Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD if they're being bundled together. You pay for what you get (and they're not shit games either, unlike the Crash games ) The TOS remaster was a technical disaster that was a total pile of shite compared to the GCN original. So far, there's nothing technically wrong with any of the games in this collection that warrents complaining about; they all seem like straight upgrades over the originals that adequetly preserve the original look, feel and gameplay (jury's still out about GCN controller support for Sunshine, we'll have to wait and see how it actually works in-game. If it doesn't support the analog triggers? THEN Nintendo will be getting an earful from me). Goes to show that your memory is about as shitty as your attitude, because the SNES versions were NOT sold seperately on the Wii Virtual Console. The NES versions were availalble for sale, but NOT the SNES versions. Nintendo have only ever put out re-releases of All Stars twice; once as a Wii retail release, and once just last week on the Switch NSO service (oh and yes, there are individual releases of the SNES versions of the SMB games, but they have only ever been released via the BS Satellaview).
-
So... it's a matter of supply and demand? Like what I've been saying already? Thought so. Clearly you have a short-term memory then, because Nintendo have been doing this for quite some time now. I distinctly remember how much of a fucking nightmare it was to get my hands on Super Mario All Stars for Wii! It was exactly the same deal then as it is now (And digital scarcity isn't a new thing either, see Four Swords Anniversary and Donkey Kong Original Edition).

Pretty much no Nintendo game is produced in limited quantities. When their games are consistently selling 1 million+; that's not scarce. Even their lesser selling games, like The Wonderful 101, Rhythm Heaven Megamix or Wario Ware Gold, are not hard to come by. People just don't want to sell their copies. Stuff like Panzer Dragoon Saga? Where SEGA only ever produced 10,000 copies outside Japan and made it a point in their advertising to gloat about how it was only available in very limited quantities? Now THAT is actually rare, and it's horseshit! It's no more bullshit than any of their other limited-time releases; like the Wii release of Super Mario All Stars, Four Swords Anniversary or the Kirby Dream Collection. It's the typical Nintendo anniversary re-release, I'm kinda indifferent really. I'm more pissed off that they don't just put out a bloody proper Virtual Console service!!! (Yes I'm still bitter and no I won't let it go!)
-
Yeah, no chance. This is Nintendo's typical limited availablity thing they do for all of their anniversary releases. They only do this for their anniversary releases; and for products that are explicitely stated to be limited time releases (like the Classic Mini consoles). Otherwise, no; that's bullshit. Nintendo games sell in the millions (often tens of millions). There's nothing scarce about that; it's just sheer demand. Pokemon games maintain their value in the second hand market for instance, but these games sell 15 million+ on average. That's not scarce!

Random question. Does anywhere know any good places to buy US import retro games from within the UK other than eBay? I'm looking to get decently priced US/NTSC copies of the Tony Hawks games for Gamecube, but the shipping costs & import charges via eBay are just completely ridiculous! They're more than the actual bloody games themselves!!

Super Mario Maker 2 challenge - June challenge has started!
Dcubed replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yes, any form of modification is fine. It's as open to interpretation as you can possibly stretch it (Yes @Glen-i, that means that Ceiling Chomps are fair game ) Just don't use anything else from the enemies tab and you're good. -
Super Mario Maker 2 challenge - June challenge has started!
Dcubed replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Oh, sorry! Been busy! Yeah, let's go with one course element each... I pick... Sans tennis racquet. Presumably. None of us have really made a course that really exploits what this guy can do (well, except me; but I wouldn't be biased here... would I?) So that's it then! This month's theme is... Dry Chomp's Dry Walk Dry, but still probably tasty No parts under the enemies tab are allowed except for these two... Anything else goes however. Good luck to all of you! -
Considering that Nintendo's internal development was already struggling well before COVID, I can't imagine that they must've been producing much of anything over these last 5 months or so (Jump Rope Challenge is about all they have been able to muster). It's like all of their development was completely halted; even their capacity to put out a Direct has been stunted completely. Doesn't surprise me too much that a company as beholden to Kyoto tradition as Nintendo would struggle to adapt I suppose...
-
Interesting... This was just uncovered from the Super Mario 35th Anniversary website... Look at the Event Date... Looks like the Mario 35th anniversary Direct was actually originally supposed to air 5 months ago... So that means that Nintendo's plans as a whole have been pushed back by at least 5 months. Makes sense. I don't think Nintendo originally planned on having a cheap ROM dump being their big headlining game for the year. SM3DWDX was supposed to launch this year.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)
Dcubed replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Oh SHIT! I just realised... Bowser's Fury means that WE MIGHT WELL SEE WART MAKE A COMEBACK!!!!!!!!!!! Now in HD... again! Yes! Calling it now. Bowser's Fury will be about you playing as Bowser to get back at Wart for putting him to sleep and taking over his dreams of taking over the Mushroom Kingdom! Then Wart will be added into Smash Bros Ultimate shortly after the game's release! SM3DW+BF will be all about righting the wrongs of the original Wii U game's release! And Switch will be remembered as The Wart Console! -
They have been working on Bowser's Fury instead. Mario Kart Live is also being developed by Velan Studios. As for the rest? They're all asset reuse sequels (except Animal Crossing) that should not take up much time and manpower. Hell, even Origami King was an asset reuse sequel that should rightfully have been finished at least a year ago! It's all about WHAT they're making. All of their studios have been leaning heavily on reusing Wii U games & assets (and unreleased Wii/Wii U titles). There's almost nothing truly original here.
-
I'm still of the mind that Nintendo EPD's production capacity was completely kneecapped when their cosy relationship with Namco came to a screeching halt. It's absolutely shocking how much their output has absolutely fallen off a cliff since 2017. They've only managed to make TWO entierly original games in the past three years! (Ring Fit Adventure and Animal Crossing New Horizons) That's horrendous!
-
Agreed. This is way more interesting than the Lego Mario set (which is still probably the biggest missed opportunity they've had on the toy side of things; how the hell do you screw up such a braindead easy concept!?). The thing about the price here though is that you have to include the price of the Switch itself into the mix... I'm honestly surprised that they didn't just go ahead and make this a mobile phone app instead.
-
So three new games for the entierty of this year (and really, 52 ATC is half remake itself)... Not great really. But hey! Bowser's Fury and the new Pikmin 3 content will at least be awesome! (Does feel like Nintendo is now winding down support for the current Switch...)
-
For what its worth, PKMDRTDX was made in Unity; the same engine that powers Yooka Laylee (and AI: The Somnium Files, funnily enough).
-
That’s for the package as a whole; of course that would always be the case (no chance of it working with Galaxy). Jury’s still out on whether or not Sunshine will recognise the Analog triggers/Digital Click when using a GCN controller though.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)
Dcubed replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yeah... about that... Good luck with keeping track of pixel-level & frame-level accuracy with 4 characters interacting with each other in an online platformer. You’re about to find out why they didn’t bother with online play originally. -
Pro Controller still requires you to use motion controls... it has the same motion sensors as the Joycons.
-
Looks like SMG uses the touchscreen in handheld mode to replicate the pointer controls... https://www.polygon.com/2020/9/3/21420227/super-mario-3d-all-stars-galaxy-switch-motion-controls-wii

It’s their typical thing they do for all of their anniversary game releases. They’re always only available for a limited time.
-
It’s not really a game release, so much as it’s the release of a really cool piece of merch.

Lol
