  1. Another thing that irritates me is just how divorced from context the decisions made regarding Skyward Sword's structure that the discorse has become. Skyward Sword's world design was a direct response to critisism made regarding Twilight Princess. Looking back on that game, the idea that TP's world could be considered "barren" today is absolutely laughable, considering how "small" and dense it is compared to the open world games of today; but that was indeed the overriding discourse at the time. Twilight Princess' main point of comparison back then was TES4: Oblivion; but open world RPGs simply weren't in vogue like they are today, and traditional "linear" games were still very popular. As Skyward Sword was coming to be though? It had the unfortunate timing of coming out alongside TES5: Skyrim, which absolutely exploded the popularity of open world games (while the Assassin's Creed games also steadily grew in popularity); with GTA 5 and Minecraft firmly solidifying open worlds as "The Future" of all video games. By comparison? Skyward Sword looked like a dinosaur, a game made completely out of its time. And as the industry trends firmly shifted over almost entierly to the open world formula, so too did people's tastes. All of a sudden, people no longer appreciated quality level design anymore (well; I mean, level design has never truly been understood or appreciated by the masses, but any notion of it was firmly chucked out of the window now!). All people wanted was the Gee Whiz factor of a massive world that stretched as far as the eye could see. Surprise surprise, Twilight Princess suddenly garnered a LOT more respect than it did upon release; and now everybody turned against Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword's linearity was designed to directly address the critisism surrounding Twilight Princess. Smaller and denser was the order of the day here; but that just so happened to come about precisely when people wanted their butter spread over 1,000 slices of bread instead. And though Aonuma has always gone out of his way to listen to feedback (arguably too much) when designing new entries in the series? BOTW wasn't just a matter of listening to feedback... It did something that Nintendo normally prides itself on never doing... ... it directly chased industry trends... So it's no wonder why BOTW is so beloved now. It just did what all the popular games of the time were doing. And that's why it doesn't suffer from The Zelda Cycle like how all the other entries in the series did. But Skyward Sword's linearity wasn't a matter of Nintendo being "outdated" or "out of touch"; it actually came from listening too closely to feedback if anything else! Small and dense is NOT a bad thing! It might be the polar opposite of what is hip and trendy today, but it makes for a FAR more interesting and compelling game overall.
  2. Really hope people start giving this game the respect it deserves after this re-release. It's a phenomenal game that gets absolutely no respect from anyone online and that drives me nuts! It's one of the greatest games ever made and people talk about it as if it were one of the CDI Zeldas! I doubt that people will really appreciate what it does (since nobody appreciates quality level design anymore; and this is level design: The Game), but I can still hope and dream? Right!? The fact that it seems to be developed internally (unlike every other Zelda remake/remaster, aside from Wind Waker HD - which itself had its new textures outsourced anyway); at least seems to show that Nintendo do have some special reverence and respect for this particular game at least... which is nice to see. It's at least a little gesture that shows that there's at least a bit of the old guard at Nintendo that still understands the true appeal of a great game. I get that classic interconnected, quality level design & pacing is no longer appreciated in today's world and that today's big trend is massive "oh wow!" open worlds with nothing going on in them; but there's a small part of me that prays that SSHD becomes a success and shows that there's still room for games like this again. I just hope that they don't muck around with the core gameplay too much to appease these idiots... all it really needs is some light QoL improvements/edits. Things like speeding up the text/text skipping, reducing/removing Fi's interruptions, removing the constant badgering when picking up items etc. All it needs is the same treatment that Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD got; nothing more.
  3. I really doubt they will. They do this on purpose for world building and to give the game a "Live" feeling. They let you skip any and all cutscenes... except for that one. It's all done on purpose (as much as it might suck when you just want to get on with things).
  4. Seems that Cape Claw is as far as you can get in this build without hacking? From what I’ve seen of this build, it is a VERY different game from the final GCN version. The level design is completely different, the game & event structure is totally different as well. Outside of a few set pieces & minigames (like the speeder bike chase & the Shop), and the overall basic setting? basically everything is different! Krystal & Sabre are both playable and you swap between the two throughout the game! Sabre has Tricky (who is generally similar to his SFA counterpart); while Krystal has her own partner (who is a pterodactyl). So yeah, this game REALLY changed drastically when it was moved over to the Cube!
  5. Rare still have their in-development builds of Twelve Tales... They also have various builds of Project Dream (SNES and N64) and Banjo Kazooie floating around in their offices... On that matter... Capcom (amazingly enough!) still have the N64 build of Resident Evil Zero! So leaks of all of these are very possible one day!
  6. OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!! THE HOLY GRAIL HAS LEAKED!! I can't believe that Fox was actually added into the game before it got ported to GCN!!! BTW: I can confirm that it DOES indeed run on real hardware via an Everdrive (requires Expansion Pak though - making it one of only 4 N64 games to ever need one).
  7. https://www.ifixit.com/News/48944/heres-why-ps5-joysticks-drift-and-why-theyll-only-get-worse Seems like the DS5 suffers from a very similar design fault as the Switch Joy-Cons... Sony would do well to nip this in the bud now, before it becomes an unsalvagable problem like on Switch... Also. Can we just collectively go back to having Gamecube style control sticks for everyone please? (I mean, Nintendo are still manufacturing them, and they're just as good as their original 2002 counterparts; so it's far from impossible!)
  8. Oh yeah, I watched it a few months back. It was alright; nothing too amazing or really revelatory (and very dramatised; just like the book), but a decent watch nonetheless. The best part was seeing Howard Phillips, Peter Main and Howard Lincoln again! It's Been 3,000 Years indeed; and it was really nice to see some old favourite faces again after SO many years, even if only briefly
  9. Thanks for this. I absolutely hate browsing the Switch eShop for sales; it's an absolutely miserable experience. That price for the Castlevania Collection is absolutely insane! If you haven't already bought it? Do so immediately! Surprised to see Melody of Memory on sale! It came out really not that long ago! Me thinks it's time to snap it up. Burnout Paradise is also finally the price it should've been sold at originally.
  10. If anything? I'm more annoyed that Wario is always represented by the WarioWare series and not the actual Wario Land games! Like... COME ON!! At least give us the bloody Shoulder Barge; you know, his key characteristic move! That's something I really like about the Smash Remix N64 mod; it pays proper tribute to the Wario Land side of Wario
  11. Those are some very Konami-esc items alright!
  12. Looks a bit dramatised and very "American" (for lack of a better term); but if they've got Howard Phillips, Ron Judy, Perrin Kaplan, Phil Spencer and Reggie on board? I'm watching
  13. Switch version is very surprising. Hopefully they don't bugger this remaster up!
  14. The tech is absolutely there if Nintendo want to put out a hybrid system in 2023 that can trade blows with an Xbox Series S (and even outperform it in some areas; especially Raytracing). The problem is that Nintendo needs to want it; and they need to leave NVidia’s engineers alone & just let them make the Switch 2’s SOC without meddling. That is, unfortunately, a BIG if.
  15. In terms of motion controls? The Switch version should be just as good, if not a bit better than the Wii original (60 FPS will definitely make it feel better). Stick drift is absolutely going to ruin the game if they have it enabled where you can’t turn the button controls off though.
  16. It drives me absolutely batty that they’re not willing to take the same chance with Advance Wars! Especially given the strategy genre’s newfound popularity! AW was always bigger than FE in the west (though certainly not in Japan). Like... COME ON!!
  17. So go take a nap and THEN fire ze missiles!
  18. Yeah, but they’re all dedicated RPGs. Mario Golf SR is (shock of all shocks!) a Golf game first and foremost. It’s unreasonable to make what is (essentially) two original HD games in one; especially for a small scale developer like Camelot. Back in the GBC & GBA era? That was a lot more feasible, but now? Unless you have a team of hundreds, a AAA budget and are working on it for 4-6 years? That’s just not gonna happen.
  19. I’ve never played either, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that The Girl Who Stands Behind is the second game?
  20. Nope. You still did it wrong and I won't hear it otherwise
  21. Nice to see S-E finally delving into their PS1 catelogue and are finally allowing the forbidden streams to cross Not my most wanted game, but welcome to see anyway. Lets get more classic titles up on Switch now (and not the horrible, disgraceful mobile versions of FF1-6!)
  22. This is true. Release order, always. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
  23. Not really true in Kirby's case. Gamecube didn't get a mainline Kirby game at all (sorry Kirby's Air Ride) and N64 only just barely got a Kirby game (sorry Kirby's Air Ride!); and Wii U only got a spinoff (It's own mainline game was robbed by Switch; yes I'm talking to you Star Allies!). It's only really within the last 10 years that Kirby has come roaring back to life; there was a long period of time where Kirby lived a bit of a limbo existence, surviving on spinoffs and remakes (as well as outsourced games from Flagship). Switch is also very likely to be the first Nintendo console to never get an original exclusive Donkey Kong game; not even an original spinoff! (a claim that even every Nintendo handheld can make!)
  24. Don't expect the Story mode to be anywhere near as extensive as the GBC/A games. It'll most likely be a fleshed out version of the Castle Club mode from MGWT on 3DS. A full scale MG RPG is just impossible in the world of HD development.
  25. If you like Summoning Salt’s channel (and I don’t blame you if you do!), I’d recommend AverageTreyVG, Bismuth and EZScape. They’re a bit more specialist (and a bit more technical), but I reckon you’ll like what they put out
