Ness, and only Ness.

Similar to the PS4 stats you can get (although they are for all time), XBOX are doing a ‘year in review’ which i wouldn’t mind seeing. Every time i try to access it, it asks me to ‘click to sign in’ which i do and it’s just contstantly stuck in a loop of taking you back to the main page to sign in. Typical XBOX with crap UI making it impossible to access basic information. Ive given up!

I’ve put about 14 hours into WOL so far, and before i accidentally clicked on an IGN article about smash bros where it showed me... I am already starting to want to move on to something else within the game now but seems like I’ve got some way to go! At least I’ve unlocked Ness now, which makes it that bit more enjoyable.

I completely agree. I know i put over 80 hours into it, but that was all either online in ‘simple’ mode - which does annoy me, as it is not simple at all. This mode is where the real skill is at in my opinion. Not some crap cheap gimmick of breaking someone’s racket in order to win a rally or backflipping across the court to an unrealistic position to win a point. I played a lot against the AI on the hardest difficulty and found some fun with that too in free play mode. But re the ‘fall from grace’ - i echo your thoughts. I never actually finished the single player as i had no desire to return to it. Anyway, would i buy it again for more online play? Yes, yes i would.

Struggling with a Zero Suit Samus boss. It’s a stamina battle and she has like 180% health. Ive had her down to 10% twice and the time runs out for the battle and results in my defeat. Urgh!! EDIT Scrap that. Just tried again and the stupid b*tch fell off the stage early on. So there’s that one done. Lovely.

I just want to find Ness God damnit ! After bitching and moaning about the RPG elements this really started to click last night and I’m enjoying it a lot. I just can’t play in anything other than docked mode as the GC controller really is the only way for me. In hindsight, I actually think the fact I didn’t have a GC controller option for the Wii / Wii U versions of Smash is probably the main reason I just wasn’t into them as much. It’s definitely not as enjoyable to play for me without the GC controller.

Serious annoyance. I played last night in handheld mode and it was terrible without a GC controller, but I had to change the controls a bit to make it at least bearable. Tonight i am playing again with the GC controller and the game still thinks that the ‘In Use’ method is the dual joy-con, pro controller set up etc. IT IS NOT. It won’t let me change it. I am in the option to ‘change default controller settings’ and it wont let me change anything. I can click the GameCube controller icon but it just lets me change the buttons it doesn’t let me apply it as my control method. Any ideas? Ive quit all the way out of WOL and am still getting the same thing happen in the normal options menu.

getting To the stage now where I basically can’t go any further with WOL as I’m stuck on every single stage. The yoshi one where there’s 4 of them and all fighters are easy to launch is pathetic. No spirit that actually does anything and whichever character I choose can’t get a hit on edge ways against any of them. Think I’ll stick to classic mode. lol.

I think GAME have the grey as an exclusive. Argos do the purple and black.

Yeah been doing that occasionally, but then it was assigning things to me and i couldn’t understand why which is part of the issue. Anywho, i’ll get there I’m sure.

Thanks! Appreciated! i did re-read the tutorial just after i posted and it kind of made some more sense. I guess its just strange having so much depth to a game like Smash, but i can see how in the long run it’s probably to keep it fresh an offer up a new way to play. Ive found it slow to unlock fighters this way though, so just played some Classic mode with Fox which i ended on Intensity 8.6. Not bad considering Fox is not my go to. Come to me Ness my pretty.

Thanks - although i wont lie. That meant nothing to me haha. I absolutely hate anything RPG related, so the fact they have gone down this route for smash is really frustrating for me. I have no idea what I am doing and it doesn’t make any sense no matter how much I try and get to grips with it. Sure, the obvious stuff like ‘makes you resistant to lava floor’ is ideal when you know you’re on a stage where the floor is lava, but what your primary spirit is doingI have no idea. Why is it levelling up? What is levelling up even for? What are the 2 bars that increase on a level up actually corresponding to? What difference do they make to one another because when you click ‘X’ for more info on most of them they just say ‘none’ to trait. I mean, it’s cool in the sense that it changes the way the game is played, but it feels very much like overkill for me at the minute.

Anyone managed to beat Giga Bowser and unlock him in WOL yet? Struggling with him!

It’s fantastic. What’s great about it is that it can be used on any Switch game as it has all the same buttons. It also adds clicky control sticks and the pressing of the ZL and ZR buttons are the same as from the GC controllers. I tried it with Odyssey last night and it worked perfectly. For Smash, there’s no better controller (for me). Highly recommended.

I picked up a wireless one so it’s useable undocked thankfully. None of this wired nonsense. Although for those who play competitively I’m sure wired is preferred.

What controller are we all using for this then? Ive picked up the Power A GC wireless controller (which also works for all other Switch games) and i absolutely love it. My only concern is when I have to play in handheld mode as i cant imagine the buttons and placement of them lend themselves too well to Smash. Especially having been used to this GC controller now. I could play undocked and still connect the GC controller i suppose!

I caved on that Switch deal. £299. Traded my copy of MK in now I have it digitally and picked up the Power A controller for a tenner. Will sell my old Switch as faulty now to recoup some funds.

Tempted by this Switch deal to replace my working, but breaking one... Console plus Smash plus MK8 £299. Already got MK8 so would trade in which GAME are offering £30 for. Making it £270 for console and Smash. I could sell mine as faulty and recoup some funds. Might pull the trigger.

I wasn’t really sure how I felt about this game. I was playing through it and found it all a bit by numbers - similar really to something like Super Lucky’s Tale. Nothing ground breaking but decent enough to play. Might be worth noting that i never played the original so there’s no rose tinted glasses here. Then I really started enjoying it. I think it’s the simplicity that I am enjoying with it actually. It also really does look fantastic. Think I am on the last world now (first game) and it has been delightful. Minor glitches aside!
