Nintendo Switch Lite announced - Releasing Sept. 20
S.C.G replied to Nicktendo's topic in Nintendo Gaming
From what I heard, the drift is still there in some extreme cases but it does correct in some instances due to the slight modification Nintendo made to the metal part related to the sticks. I can't speak from personal experience though, aside from to say that I've never experienced joy-con drift as far as I can remember but then I'm perhaps not the best judge of it. Mainly because I tend to use a Pro Controller and only use Joy-Cons when I have to either in portable mode or in games which require you to use them which I tend to not play. -
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (29th May)
S.C.G replied to ArtMediocre's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Monolith Soft celebrates its 20th Anniversary Yep, twenty years to the day Monolith Soft was created on October 1st 1999 So I thought it was worth writing an article about, despite the fact that I'm not the most qualified perhaps, I do love the games they make. I'll finish one of their many titles one of these days I promise. Anyway, many happy returns to Monolith Soft and hopefully here's to twenty more exceptional years.- 198 replies

Nope, nice try Sony but you're only getting PS Plus yearly subscriptions out of me for the small handful of Plus titles I actually play and so I can play Monster Hunter World online. I have no use for PS Now because I have all the games that I want to play on the system in physical form, I just need to find the time to play them.

Oh yeah, wirelessly it will probably work fine with Steam, I was just kind of hoping that because it should work like a Pro Controller with the wired connection option, these might too. I've had mixed results connecting my Switch Pro Controller wired to a PC, it doesn't matter too much though as I have a wired Xbox One Elite controller for that. In fact, recently that controller is getting more use on my PC than on the Xbox One itself. I'd be using the Pro Controller even more than I do already on my Switch if I could get it to work reliably over a wired connection on my PC, it's always good to have options. I'll be looking forward to getting these SNES pads and testing them extensively when they arrive, on the SNES games and everything else too.

Now, this is kind of what I'm hoping for as well in a way because of how Pro Controllers now work since various updates you can use them wired, hopefully these will be the same. I really hope so, otherwise I'll probably just use them for the odd go on a SNES game but I really think they'll have a wired option built in instead of just charging. And if that's the case then hooking them up to a PC with the USB cable shouldn't be a problem, I hope.

Oh snap! That's actually a really good suggestion. You're right though, it probably won't happen outside of a remake or as part of another collection but even if that happens, that would be great. I bought a German language cart only copy a while back because it was cheaper and I thought that I might play it on the Retron 5 with an English language patch. That didn't happen but there might be another way for me to play it on another system later on this year or next year... hopefully. If not then I'll be hoping for a Switch re-release in some form or another anyway.

Well, seeing as it's still another few months at the very least until PSO2 finally comes to the West, I thought I might as well use this thread to talk about PSO Blue Burst. @Gadwin pursuaded me to try out Ephinea PSOBB and it's actually really good as you get to play PSO Ep I, II & IV, you can choose to play either vanilla or hardcore mode as well. There's extra higher difficulty quests above Ultimate as well for when you get higher level which will really give you a challenge and there's a great community on there. Over the past few nights I've had games with a few new starter characters, I've had help from higher level characters as well and its just been pretty fun to relive the game. The character limit for names is a couple of characters short from the original, so when I was remaking Dark Avenger (my original character) I instead opted for Edge. So I have a different section ID than I'm used to, Yellowboze instead of Viridia but it should make for some interesting drops. All of the different lobbies are there too, DC, Ep I & II and even Ep III as well seeing as both games shared lobbies back in the day, so that was nice to see. Tonnes of new music tracks from Sega games and other popular games have been added which you can select in the lobby as well at 5,000 Meseta a pop. I've seen some nice custom quests in the list as well as the usual favourites as well such as TTF which is still one of the main starter level up quick quests. Anyway, well worth checking out if you're feeling like playing PSO online again, it supports controllers and it's great once you've got everything mapped how you like it. I'm using a wired Xbox One controller which works really well, I'm not playing it all the time, just an hour or two here and there for now but its been most nights this week. Gadwin got me back into it and now it feels like I'm playing it more than him I've got a level 34 HUmar now and I can almost clear Mop Up Operation 1 solo on Hard mode. This should tide me over nicely along with Monster Hunter World until PSO2 comes out early next year.

No worries, it was £8.90 shipping here, so I just went and ordered the maximum four pads allowed per account as my brother will likely want at least one or two. I think that's mainly it now for the year for me, aside from a few pre-orders as I can't carry on buying stuff like this, it's just that I know these will probably be one of those items... Get them now if you can, otherwise they'll probably sell out and then the only place to get them from will be £50 + per pad on auction sites etc.
-
It's working! Ordering now. All ordered, thankfully there is now an option to manually add an address if yours isn't picked up on their system. If all goes well, the controllers will arrive in a couple of weeks and we may well have a feature for the site as well.

I'm still refreshing the page periodically even though it seems hopeless. (yes I'm stubborn) I'll be sure to let you know if I have any success.

I'm sorry to hear that you've both been having a rough time at work lately @Ashley and @Happenstance it sounds like you've both got a lot going on. It seems like you're also being asked to do a lot of stuff which isn't in your job descriptions as well, this seems to be a thing in a lot of places and it's definitely not right at all. Ashley, I hope that you find something that you're happier doing after December, I really do, there's loads of places which would be lucky to have you, N-Europe's lucky to have you. Heck, it would be great if we could make this place a job for every staff member as well as a hobby, that's the ideal I think, so long as the passion is there and the balance. Who knows, maybe one day? Even if not though, it's still really great to write for N-E whenever we get the time. Happenstance, I've felt similar to how you feel for a long time, in fact... sadly it got beyond that for me, not just the being part-time for so many years and definitely not wanting full-time even if I was ever to be offered it (which I know was never going to happen) but I was at the point of dreading going into work every day... luckily I was fortunate enough to work with some really lovely people, that wasn't the problem for me, which makes it harder because I do miss a load of people that I used to work with as well as customers who I used to serve, you can prbably see where I'm going with this but I left my job where I'd been for over thirteen years... this happened months ago and I haven't been back since as I honestly can't due to how the place was making me feel. Now, being unemployed isn't exactly easy (far from it) and I can remember what it was like being unemployed before I got a proper job but now? Besides missing people, I don't really miss the work or the environment, it wasn't the same as what I signed up for a long time ago and even a lot of people who I knew have either left or been forced to leave due to the company making various cuts, of course it's Tesco so this has been happening at a lot of stores but it doesn't make it right and it has had a huge effect on how the place has felt over time. Anyway, I hadn't said much about it on the public forum side until now (most of the N-E staff know) but I thought it was about time to say something and I just wanted to say that being unemployed isn't that bad, if the alternative is staying and then making yourself feel even worse but I know it's not always that "easy" heck, it wasn't easy for me to leave but I did and now hear I am... I will say that I am a lot happier overall, even if I don't quite know what I'm going to do yet but I just wanted you to know that you're not alone and if you do want to talk about it at all, don't hesitate to send me a PM or talk about it in here.

On the front page. While I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy this, I'm interested in potentially seeing other DS titles making a return. Or even some more original touch-screen based software for use with the stylus.

I'm all signed in but all I've got is a spinning circle icon, something tells me these will be sold out within the hour. Just time-outs, bad gateway errors, security messages after loading for around five minutes each time. Oh well, I guess I didn't want these controllers that much anyway... It doesn't help that loads of US My Nintendo subscribers are trying to order to get the (arguably superior) PAL SNES pads as well. Nintendo UK won't even ship to them even if they go through the whole process... It's going to be bad enough actually ordering these if/when I can get through as I remember what it was like the last time ordering some item from them. I icon at the top of the tab is blue now as least, maybe I'll get through... who knows at this point.

Is anyone else using an alternative to the SNES controllers in the meantime? I'm using the Nintendo GameCube Hori controller which I use for most games which just require a D-Pad and face buttons... The one in the middle, underneath the SSBU GC controller.* Of course it might not be ideal for all SNES games due to the face button layout but I think it works well for most, the only drawback is when you're using it and you want to capture screenshots while playing games like Super Mario Kart online and the Switch moves in the dock, disconnecting everything in the process... but aside from that, it's ideal. Those SNES pads for the Switch do look nice though, although... am I mistaken or do they not have a capture button on them either? Are there any titles anyone is hoping will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online SNES library soon? Also... do you think that N-Europe needs reviews of these titles? (they've been covered before) Or would you like an article about the Nintendo Switch Online games at all? I'm just thinking of ideas for features, though there's plenty that we can cover already, indeed it's hard to keep up at the moment with the amount of games being released. I've been finding the SNES games to be a nice change of pace inbetween other games, I'll likely be playing more of the titles I didn't play so much back in the Wii VC days. *Yeah alright, I might have wanted an excuse to share a partial picture of my GC games collection.

Sega Lord X with a video of Sega Mega Drive Hacks & Translations Part 2 with some quite interesting titles in there, probably none that I'll be trying but still nice to see. Also on the subject of Sega, I was playing a bit of Shining Force CD last night as I was testing a copy that I sold just to make extra sure it was OK even though I knew it worked. This was because it also gave me a chance to play it on my Mega SG with the Mega CD II attached and all I can say is wow, the level of clarity and detail to it is astounding. It still doesn't mean that I'm any good at the game mind, I got two battles in (basically the intro part) and got K-O'd on both battles but still, it's a game I'll return to for certain. This also gave me a chance to check that the Back-Up RAM cart I bought a little while ago with a new battery installed was still good, as you need it to fully experience the entire game. It's all fine, after a bit of a shock initially after the Mega CD telling me that no RAM cart was present, after taking the cartridge out and reseting it all worked just fine. I'll have to get my main copy out again soon to give it a proper playthrough as the story, characters and presentation are all genuinely charming.

There's a chance that I might be interested in factions, I didn't play factions in the original The Last of Us because it was only really the single-player campaign I was interested in. It's only really the single-player campaign that I'm interested in when it comes to The Last of Us Part II as well but at least this way I think the multiplayer will have more of a chance. It really depends on how Naughty Dog decides to roll it out though, if it turns out to be a full price game which gives you all of the multiplayer content on day one, it will do well. If they go overkill with microtransactions then it could go either way but I understand that there was quite a good setup for the previous online modes which worked so it should be fine. I only dabbled in the multiplayer for some of the Uncharted titles, if Factions is significatly different to that then it might be something that I'd play. Over the years there have been less and less multiplayer titles on the PS4 or Xbox One which I feel are really worth investing time in. I'll keep an open mind when it comes to Factions though, if anything I think that Naughty Dog really have a chance to deliver something special with it.

Soon... we just don't know yet though, I was reading that they have sold out already in regions where they were on sale, this seems to be the US ones mainly. I checked eBay and there are only US ones with the purple buttons for sale, so that would suggest that most of the European/UK SNES controllers haven't gone on sale yet. They do seem to be quite reasonable for what they are, £26.99 per controller, maximum of four can be ordered per Nintendo Switch Online account and they look solid enough. I'm just hoping that someone, somewhere will confirm for definite whether or not they can be used wired with the supplied USB cable instead of just charging, hopefully though. Anyway, not long now.

Sega (Edge) Lord X with a video one The Sega Game Gear Top 10 well worth a watch, especially if you have the Mega SG and are waiting for that cartridge adapter. @Happenstance That's what I'm planning on doing as I had some Sega Game Gear consoles and more games until recently but I sold them, only keeping the ones I'm really interested in. I wonder how many I already have might be on this list and if not, I bet I end up considering at least one new Sega Game Gear game as a result of watching this video.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - 26th Sept
S.C.G replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I got this yesterday, I've owned the original on PS4 since it came out, didn't play it... now that I have the definitive edition on the Switch I think I really should play this over everything else. -
Cheers for the games gonna have to call it there as I'm all tired out.

There are plenty of drawbacks to VR for me personally and I realise that I'm likely to be in the minority when it comes to it but this doesn't bother me. Many things which a lot of people see as plus point for VR, I tend to see as negative, for instance... VR is immersive - but it's a compromise, as with everything, you're immersed but at what cost? I don't tend to play with headphones or headsets as it is because I prefer basic surround sound and I don't like being totally taken out of my surroundings, at least on a more traditional gaming setup you can just pause it and walk away easily if you need to. VR makes games which weren't possible on conventional setups - this might be true to a limited degree but mostly you can still make the same games on a standard setup, so I see this as more of an alternative but mostly a gimmick... I bought in to things like Kinect and PS Move but they never really offered anything that brilliant at all and I don't see why VR would be any different for me; yes I can remember experiencing the 3DS in the early days, that was fun but the 3D proved to be a gimmick as well, it offered extra depth in some games but it wasn't necessary. VR is becoming more affordable - gradually yes but it's not about the cost for me, even if I had money to spend on it, I wouldn't because I don't believe it has anything to offer me, the PS4 is a great system but when I first saw the PSVR being brought out at more than the cost of the console and all the hassle of hooking it up it just made me glad that I didn't want it. Obviously I'm still happy for anyone who enjoys VR but I recognise that I'm just not the target audience for it as I've been gradually moving away from more mainstream games and just falling back on the niche but established stuff that I never got a chance to play years ago; a lot of VR games to me have seemed to be mostly mainstream but worse in a way because they've been restricted in some way (story or otherwise) in order to just bring about that proof of concept and then the cost usually overrides it all because it's not just the hardware but the cost of the software too. I could go on but I don't know if my thoughts on VR would be of that much value or maybe they would but its just that I've accepted that it's not for me and I understand that many people get a lot of value out of it so I don't want to seem completely down on it just because but I don't like the deeper agenda behind why we've been "sold" VR so heavilly not just over the decades which have passed but in particular, right now more than ever and it's not just because we have the technology to do it either, I firmly believe that if they had wanted to bring out advanced VR it could have been done long ago, it's just that now really seems to suit a larger agenda behind it; of course not every game will be going along to support this but I think as time goes on, there is a good chance that all these companies invested in VR will be finding ways to extract the data within a seemingly innocent VR experience in order to teach A.I to further a larger agenda and I really don't want any part of that but this is just my opinion and I'd urge everyone to just do their own research and come to their own conclusions on the subject. Then there's the whole other issue of wanting to eliminate wireless signals where possible because they can have a negative impact on us over time, not everyone is susceptible to it but I've noticed over the years that I am, so that's why I like to have everything wired where I can but VR will go wireless in a matter of a single generation of consoles or less, so it will be ruled out for me by default and I don't like having those screens too close to my eyes, not to mention those VR Goggles which require you to strap a modern mobile phone to your face, to me that is just plain dangerous. So those are my main reasons, I think it's good to have an alternative view on the subject even if it's largely dismissed as "an irrational fear of technology" or whatever, at least you have my view on it and I just hope that anyone investing in VR makes it worthwhile for them but I feel like I have to say something at this point, because if it ever gets to the point where certain aspects of VR are affecting peoples health in a negative way due to the further advancing technology, that's when I think it's at the very least worth taking a step back to assess what's going on; I'm sure many of you have already done your own research before buying into VR and probably won't have any problems with it, I don't want to ruin anyones fun I just thought it was worth providing a little more information on why I don't like the idea behind it even though the core concept looks quite appealing from the outset. No I haven't and I really don't think I'm likely to, mostly for the reasons I've gone into above and it's not a case of knocking it without trying it as there are loads of things I would never try because sometimes you just know instinctively that they aren't for you and that's OK... so I just tend to trust my instincts a little more these days after buying into similar things and then getting burned by them though I do admit it does probably come across as a bit "well that's just just your pre-conceived view on how you think VR is, you can't possibly know without trying it" but really, truly it's something I've been sure of for a while now and I don't mind that at all. In an attempt to try and bring something a bit more balanced to this discussion I will ask this question though... What is the one VR title or tech demo which has sold the technology to you just on its own? Or is it really just another way to experience all games later on down the line? That's the key question for me when evaluating it as a product, assuming that there are no health drawbacks to using it or otherwise, just like when buying a conventional console, there's usually a reason that people will buy into the technology, so I'm interested to hear what has made people so ready to get into VR at this point.
