Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
S.C.G replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yep, it'd be excellent to have Glen involved, especially for Smash, I've learned a fair bit just from playing Smash each week even though I've still much to learn. Glad to hear that you don't really want cameras involved, I'm probably happier just providing voice if required, I don't mind real names so much but if you like we can just stick to forum names but I would have thought first names would be fine? Yep, seconding this... what I was going to say is that we could talk about it in the staff section and see about who can do what in addition to talking about it here. I think this could work very well as this sounds like a good fit for the site and our community. -

That's good to hear as I'm not that brilliant at Smash either, I was just talking about improving my Smash skills a bit in the online thread only last night as well. Yes, it's good to have a safety net I think, in the past when we've made certain podcast style videos on N-E some of them have gone better than others. Would people taking part have to appear on camera or is it more that we'd have some Smash streaming/playing and it's more about just the audio side of things? This is something which I think could be put under the N-Europe banner, potentially but we'd have to discuss it more but as long as the staff are happy, I don't see why not. Obviously it's not my decision to make ultimately as besides, we'd need help putting all this together and we have been talking about trying to do make more video content. -

This sounds like an interesting idea @LazyBoy and it has potential to work as well, so I'd tentatively be interested depending on how everything is set up. It sounds fine in principal from what you've described though and I can see that you've done your research on similar shows which are already available. -
Thanks for the games everyone! And cheers for the advice @Glen-i I do feel like I'm playing Smash wrong at times as I do like using those special moves... a lot. But I could definitely learn to pratice a bit more on my basic attacks in single player, I think my trouble is I haven't played single player since late last year. I should get back on that.
-
Now I'm just confused... but I'm sorry that you felt singled out.
-
Well if that's the case then no worries @viceview51 as I also thought my performance was appalling as well. I just took the appalling to mean that myself and @martinist had done something which is frowned upon in battle mode. If it's the latter then I'll of course apologise but if it's just the case that I did badly in battle mode then I agree as it's par for the course for me. Except for Bob-Omb Battle, I don't seem to do too badly on that mode.
-
In what way exactly? If I've done anything which is considered genuinely out of order then please tell me and I'll apologise. But... it is Battle mode so I feel like I'm missing something here.

Oh yeah, that as well. Good shout on the Arlo video, will check that out later.

Switch Sales Surpass 10 Million on the front page. Now Nintendo about all that money you've made from the Switch so far... Maybe it's time to buy up some loyal developers who are in a spot of financial difficulty? It would be worthwhile in the long run as I'm sure Mario & Luigi on the Switch would sell tonnes.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019

Same. Very enjoyable remix though @ArtMediocre great stuff. -
Sega Lord X with a video on Streets of Rage Remake has anyone else played this one PC? I'm pretty sure I have at some point and I remember it being really good. Seeing it in this video just makes me wish that it would get an official port from Sega in an almost Sonic Mania style fashion. Well, at least we are getting Streets of Rage 4 which I also can't wait for but if this ever got an official port, I think it would sell loads.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting with a video all about Kenji Eno who I knew nothing about despite owning both D and Enemy Zero on the Saturn for many years now. I feel like I should play through them both properly soon in his memory as it seems like he was a real force in the industry at the time. Maybe I should see about picking up an NTSC copy of D2 on the Dreamcast at some point... I wish I'd picked it up years ago, it's kind of rare now.
-
Ordered it... I can't really afford it but then, it's £21.45 after discount, it seems like a reasonably priced, decent single player game from a new developer who I'd like to support. Plus it looks wonderful, it might just be the game to help get me out of this gaming rut I've been feeling like I've been stuck in for ages now. I really hope this does well.

Oh yeah, I meant to say earlier, my controllers shipped this afternoon. Once they arrive I'll see about doing a hands-on feature for the site.

Note to self - Don't stack special edition game boxes from shelf to ceiling in the future. Ironically I was going to dismantle the tower of boxes tomorrow but it decided to dismantle itself in rather spectacular fashion. It's my own fault for stacking them so high in the first place, the funny thing is, it was fine until I took some boxes off the top as there were some things I needed to sell from there. Ah well, it could have been worse... a few scuffed boxes, a crushed cartridge box protector and a small mark on my analogue Mega SG thankfully barely noticeable though. Lesson learned, don't play Tetris with boxes when there's a loose block in play. This is why I've needed to get rid of stuff for a while now as things have gotten a bit out of hand and on the plus side, one less job to do tomorrow I suppose.

That's... moreorless how I've been living for a good few years now but I'm trying to redress the balance now and sell games which I don't need. It's nice to have a load of games to play but I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot I won't get around to playing, so I might as well sell at least some of my collection. This is also why I'm a bit aprehensive about new consoles coming out, I've got a decent library on the PS4... starting again with the PS5 isn't immediately appealing to me. At least it'll have that backwards compatability though.
-
Well... I do love retro stuff. But when it comes to stuff like TV's, Sound Systems and PC's I do like to make them last. I've been using the same AV system for well over a decade, I'm only reluctantly getting around to upgrading that soon(ish) and I still don't feel ready because my Sony amp still works. It felt pretty bad during the 360/PS3/Wii era for console reliability though, I'm technically on my third PS3 because the slim model just stopped working and the less said about the number of Xbox 360 units we've had go wrong in this house over the years, the better. Still on my launch model PS4 and original Xbox One though, which is why I'm glad that the PS5 is still a year or so away. As for other tech, I only tend to buy stuff I know I'm going to use where possible, it's partly why I have a basic phone, I just wouldn't use anything above that so no point in owning one. I only use my basic phone as it is because I have to for certain things, automated texts etc and it's useful for if I have to go anywhere but that's about it. There is some modern technology I like but it's few and far between these days.

1080p is good enough for me, heck my old 720p TV in the other room still works fine. If my TV was on the way out and if I could find a single decent 4K TV which doesn't have the word "smart" in it or that is purely just a display with nothing tacked on, then I'd be interested. Am I right in thinking that these days it's better to just go with a monitor rather than a TV assuming that you don't need the "TV" part? The only reason I went with a TV the last time was that they were more standard a few years ago and at least came with a way to hook up older stuff like component and scart. Plus, with 4K you would need to upgrade some of your HDMI cables for certain devices, to make sure they're the same standard I'd have thought... Although you'd just be buying 4K capable HDMI cables for the actual 4K consoles I suppose, so that's not so much of an issue. Hmm, it might be a good idea to create a new modern TV/display thread. Anyway it's all kind of irrelevant to me at the moment I suppose, I don't really have the money for any of that stuff really, though we'll see what happens nearer the time.

Annnnd on the front page. Looking forward to playing Doom Eternal next year then on the Switch. I should have enough time to play Doom (2016) now...

The best news out of all of that info for me is the confirmation that you'll be able to use the controllers with it over a wired connection. Though if the only new thing in the controllers is HD rumble, then I'd appreciate the option to use exisiting DS4 and licensed third-party PS4 controllers on it. I want to get more use out of my Nacon Revolution Pro Controller. I also hope that the patented A.I assistant either doesn't make the cut, is scrapped entirely or can be disabled/make the microphone optional otherwise that could be a deal-breaker for me. That kind of technology is invasive enough without it being in the next-generation of consoles as well. But it's just another patent so I'm not too concerned at this point, a digital assistant is the last thing needed in a console, just give us a quick and responsive user interface.

Nope, but it's OK because I know exactly what it would have said if I had... "Never mind, there's always next month!"

I like your cat and your storage solution very much @Happenstance My younger brother who has a film collection around the same size as my game collection started doing something similar with some of his films and it seems like a great idea. The idea of putting modern games in a similar storage solution is a good one, I don't know if I could do it but I do recognise that game packaging is becoming less special. Going forward, the compromise I think is for all future platforms which have physical media is to have cases the size of Switch game cases or smaller, I think this would help. This is definitely why I've gravitated towards collecting Switch games more than any other modern platform recently as you can fit a tonne onto a shelf or storage cube. I'll try and share some of my storage solutions when I can get things to a more photo-taking worthy state as I've been using some neat methods for storing portable games. It's just the rest of it I really need to work on.
