I wonder if Capcom will include basic voice chat again, just like it did with the Wii U version of MH3U? It was really odd because it was it was present in the Wii U version only, you could plug in any basic headset into the gamepad and it just worked while you were in-game. There could be a similar setup here as it could be the same on a technical level, just plug in a headset and it would work, just on this game and only while in-game. You'd still need to subscribe to Nintendo Online but if there was dedicated voice chat for MHGU at least then it would be something. There isn't any way in hell that I'm using a mobile app. And if there is no voice chat at all, then I'll still play but it certainly added something to my experiences with MH3U and MHW, so I would like it in some unofficial capacity please Capcom.

Absolutely, I'll be transferring my file over on day 1 to the Switch version, which is where it will be staying assuming the cloud save backup feature works as intended. We'll get you there within a week or so hopefully I reckon, especially when it comes to Astalos as @Glen-i mentioned, as he along with @Ugh first aid and @Dcubed make up the official ABC (Astalos Butchering Corporation) whose services you can rely upon to get the job done, so we'll surely take it in turns to get you to where you need to be. As for coming off playing Monster Hunter World... I appreciate the refinements which MHW has brought, for me a lot of the "controversial" changes really are quite minor as they are overwritten by the huge amounts of small improvements which really make a huge difference; besides... currently the way that the potion taking works now is that if you start taking a potion, a monster leaps at you and you dive before the animation is complete, you have effectively wasted a potion, so there is definitely still that element of risk/reward there which doesn't harm the game in the slightest. It will be interesting going back to Monster Hunter Generations... adjusting to those seperate loading locations, slower animations, frequent switching between hub worlds for little incentive. I'm sure it's not going to be that bad going back really, as I know what to expect... also what is most exciting is having the option to play on full screen again, as some of the assets from the 3DS game deserves to look better on a larger screen; hopefully we'll still have a decent number of HUD customisations as I like to play with as minimal amount of permenant on-screen elements as possible, especially as I'll know the maps inside-out by this point. Anyway, as a now seasoned Monster Hunter (which I count from MH3U and onwards since 2013) who plays and enjoys all of the series titles regardless of platform, I am looking forward to going backward with the Switch version kind of a back-handed compliment because it is the first game that you can play on the go and on the big screen on the same piece of hardware and still get a fantastic experience hopefully. Just don't cheap out on the game card size this time Capcom because I want to buy this in physical form with no significant downgrades.

Can you help me finding an old 3D platformer?
S.C.G replied to Azalus's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Well, I thought it was worth a shot. It's proven interesting for me too as I'm going through the CEX database, A-Z for each format, I'm usually on there anyway and it's good to see just how many platformers were released in addition to brushing up on any odd titles to look out for while I'm there. There were a few thousand PS2 titles to look through but, here's what I found @Azalus... **PS2*** An American Tail Animaniacs - The Great Edgar Hunt Anubis 2 Asterix & Obelix XXL Billy The Wizard Castleween Cocoto - Platform Jumper Coraline Countryside Bears Freak Out Gift Herdy Gerdy Kuri Kuri Mix Psychonauts Tak And The Power Of Juju Zapper - One Wicked Cricket I've still got the Xbox and GameCube categories to go through, but you've got a few to look through now at least. -

You're most welcome. It's a shame that it wasn't any of those but at least that's a few more down to cross off. Also, I noticed that in your list of consoles you have some games which could have been on GameCube or Xbox so I guess those are platforms to consider as well from the same era. Yes, nostalgia most certainly is great at times but deadly at other points in time. If I think of any other games, I'll be sure to post them here. -

Also... Donkey Kong 64 on the N64 just to throw that one out there as it doesn't seem to be on the list. Oh and Rocket Robot on Wheels can't forget that one. -

Hi @Azalus and welcome to N-Europe. I can sympathise with you wanting to find a game that you played during your childhood but just can't think of the name, it has happened to me a good few times over the years... the one which eluded me for a while was this side-scrolling shmup that I played on the Megadrive over at my late Grandparents neighbours house, which featured a really significant boss battle in a lava stage which featured a mutated angler fish and some of the greatest music I've ever heard in such a title. That game of course was Darius II... I know that now, but at the time, I couldn't think what it was, possibly due to it being an import copy I think. Anyway, back to your quest to find this 3D platforming type game, which I can see already has a rather large exclusion list of games you've already checked and I must commend you on the amount of research you've done as at least we have a lot to work with, so I will try to help you find out what this game is called. My first thought was Super Magnetic Neo as that one is kind of obscure, fitted the bill and I only realised what type of game it is very recently... but that's on the list. The only title I can think of right now is... Space Station Silicon Valley on the N64 purely because it's so odd and it doesn't seem to be in your list. It's a starting point at least. -
I really feel that having a strong Single-Player component would be a decent option for this game in addition to the DLC they are currently working on. If this happens at E3 followed by a soft-relaunch with a free software update soon then I wouldn't be too surprised. Failing that... revive Project Dream in its original form, that had Pirates and at the moment I'd much rather play that and it's kind of what I was hoping this game might end up being more like.

Just in case anyone else is going down the RGB Scart route... I mean, it's not anything that hasn't already been covered on My Life In Gaming but, I still found this useful as it reinforced why I ended up going with fully shielded, C-Sync Packapunch Pro cables with optional seperate audio from Retro Gaming Cables. No, I still haven't set it all up yet but I will in time.

And now the sun has reversed the damage it contributed to, along with the help of the peroxide of course... it's almost poetic. Anyway, that Wavebird and the Dreamcast look like they cleaned up very nicely indeed, I may end up performing this method on some consoles but I'm not too keen on using hydrogen peroxide. Has anyone else tried Magic Erasers on old yellowed plastic? It's a Melamine foam which usually comes in a block, you use it for cleaning around the house, apparently it works on light yellowing but you have to be careful as it will take off certain logos as well, so just keep away from those parts with it, but the magic eraser may be good if you don't want to take anything apart. In fact... I may try that out on one of my Wavebird receivers which is noticably yellow compared to the rest as a test.

All I meant with regards to the hologram is that the official Pokémon games on the GBA tend to have that shiny foiled label, this might look different on fake cartridge possibly. The issue with games coming up as "Unknown Cartridge" does happen, it's like that for me whenever I'm playing my original cartridge of Phantasy Star IV on the Megadrive, it still plays fine though and it's great to have that extra save backup on the Retron so that I can carry on with my save file even if the battery is gone. If you're thinking of getting more retro games to play on your Retron 5 then check out the General Retro Discussion thread if you're looking for *inspiration or just a place to post pictures of your retro game setup etc, we're always happy to offer advice there as well. *Disclaimer - the General Retro Discussion thread is not responsible for any additional retro purchases you may end up making after visiting there.

I approve wholeheartedly of this name for a Tortoise. Hopefully you'll get to keep him and all goes well.

Congrats on picking up a Retron 5, I've had one for many years and I've found it to be a pretty decent system for what it is, £100 is a fair price you got it for too. Now, as for the Pokémon games... I'm no expert but it could be that Fire Red is a copy, though it doesn't look like one at first glance. Is the label a proper hologram like on the other two carts? That's often a giveaway, if the labels are all holographic then, next thing to check is the contacts on the cart but I would assume that you've checked all of this already, especially as you work in a videogame store. I'm not trying to be cheeky or anything, it's just that these are the first things I would be checking myself if a cartridge wasn't working properly. Anyway, if you want to take a few more pictures of the carts in an area where they catch the light, so you can see the labels close up, that might give us more clues to see if the Fire Red cart is genuine or not, I wouldn't like to say for definite either way but I'm happy to help figure out if it is or not. If you want any other advice on the Retron 5, don't hesitate to ask either, it's a pretty nice system with some decent features, I don't use it as much as I used to but it's definitely handy for playing certain games, especially those which have a battery inside the cart which might be on the way out as you can keep playing them on the Retron 5 as it has ways of backing up the saves plus it remembers where you last left off for each game.

I don't have a problem with Sega re-tooling their IP's for modern audiences, including VR platforms, so long as they follow the Rez model and make it optional. Especially with something like Panzer Dragoon if it comes to fruition, because if they are taking the time to redo all the assets in HD then they should look the best on a big screen and decent enough on the various headsets, which we know have their resolution limitations. They seem to mostly be going for games which can be played either way so far, which seems fine, because quite honestly... why limit your market to just VR? Even if it is a growing one, making the game playable on conventional HDTV's will almost certainly ensure more sales. So I'm all for Sega making Panzer Dragoon VR... just don't exclude the rest of us who would relish the chance to play a modern version of a Sega Saturn classic, so long as it's done right.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe League 2018 (Final results now in)
S.C.G replied to Glen-i's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Oh right... that. Yeah... I have nothing to say in my defence apart from... It was the Fire Flower demon! He made me do it! I had no control over my actions. (please forgive me) *ahem!* sorry about that... it (probably) won't happen again. (I promise) Yes please, I would still like to maintain my 100% attendance, if possible. By the way, I just wanted to say, thank you for the effort you put into hosting this league, this week's theme was exceptional as well. -

What unspeakable deed might this be? I've genuinely just removed all memory of the last race from my mind. We'll just have to wait for the highlights, but I'm going to tentatively say... it was *possibly worth it... just a little bit... to come joint-second place. *Opinion may vary after viewing back the highlight footage, apology possibly incoming, release date TBA 2018.
