As someone who grew up on the Amiga 500's, Rick Dangerous, I think this will be a game for me!

I think a more fitting question is why on earth Nintendo themselves have prioritised Yarn Yoshi ahead of all their other yet to be released franchises? There's a 2D Yoshi coming to the 3DS this year, why on earth do we need a second? One of them shouldn't have been made. And this is an example of the very strange thinking at Nintendo.

Really you can only call it a waste of their talent if you're not interested in the DCKR series. A lesser developer wouldn't create such an incredible platformer worthy of the name. Also when compared to Rare on the N64, budgets and timescales are completely different nowadays. Maybe Retro Studios could use some investment to get them up to a guaranteed 2 games team.

@Zell annoyingly Demon Souls was on Plus until last month maybe :p Another reason why it's best to just get on it as son as possible and make sure you don't miss out. Unless you cancel Plus it will just renew itself each year I think. But sometimes websites sell 1 years Plus for £30, so look for those. And yep, just add all the Plus games you're interested in to your download list what ever the console. Good times ahead!

I don't know if it's fair to call DKCTF a cop out? It's a cop out in terms of actually utilising and demonstrating the Wii U, in that it doesn't!... and that's a huge mistake on Nintendo's part in terms of green lighting that game in the first place. But compared to Metroid Prime, both games are at the very pinnacle of their genre. I suppose producing a 2D platformer could be considered a safer genre (although not to do it well perhaps), and actually choosing to do a sequel to a known quantity is perhaps a cop out, when they really should be producing new experiences.

Providing it was fundamentally a good game I would absolutely buy it, for the same reason I think we all like to replay these games; they hold a certain charm and nostalgia. Although I'd be far more inclined to buy a new game based on 64 bit, than the 32 bit games. There are certain games out there where the gameplay is so good that the visuals are only there to serve a purpose and actually hold up perfectly well today... take F-Zero X for example... The simple artstyle for the genre makes the game look perfectly acceptable today. If Nintendo was to hire a developer to put out an F-Zero X 2 on the Virtual Console tomorrow, I think everyone would buy it. No one would care it looks like an N64 game, and if anything that might only add to the charm! That Banjo Kazooie pic above for example, the vibrancy and personality of the games environments and characters means the game still looks lovely today. So it can absolutely be done.

PS4/XboxOne version of Thief £34.98 to pre-order at Zavvi. Same price as PS3/360 version.

I'm glad I haven't played Mario Kart DS and MK7 now! Heeeeeello even more 'new' courses! Wasn't the biggest Grumble Volcano fan though. I imagine there will still be an item box in your HUD despite characters holding the item, as it's the quickest way to tell which item you've picked up. Larry and Lemmy ftw.

Uncharted 2 is the worst of the three games IMO, no doubt about it. I don't get the love for that game at all. Uncharted 1 is a far more intimate game, I cared far more about Drake and Elena, I preferred the largely singular setting, I actually thought the overall story was better. Uncharted 2 is far too over the top for its own good. That game is insanely dumb. You're jumping all over the place in terms of locations and there are so many action sequences where you are just running, it the most linear of the trilogy, extremely so, I think the balance is too much in the favor of gunfights, and the story is ridiculous. Also I prefer Elena as a partner. Uncharted 3 is better than Uncharted 2 in every way IMO and was probably my most enjoyed of the three games. I enjoyed that game immensely, closely followed by Uncharted 1. I do realise I'm in the minority though :p --- Oh and @Zell, you can also add the PS4 and PS Vita games that are on Plus to your download list each month, even if you don't have those consoles to actually download them to yet! They'll just stay saved in you list for when you might do

That's the video I just posted above :p but yeah this was the first I'd seen of it too outside of that terrible E3 showing. Looks so funny.

Welcome aboard! Yep, if you can spare the £30-£40 get Plus as soon as possible. There are a couple of games for each Playstation console that stay on Plus for about 6 months, these games for the PS3 currently are Uncharted 3 and LittleBigPlanet Karting. Other than that the other PS3 games swap in and out each month or other month. And there are some great games up at the moment with Bioshock Infinite and Metro Last Light, with Tomb Raider and Brother: A Tale of Two Sons rumoured for next month. Guacamelee and XCOM are also up atm but will probably leave it soon. In terms of PSN games I'd recommend you: Journey (which you want anyway) The Unfinished Swan Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons In terms of exclusive PS3 games then definately: Infamous Infamous 2 (I have this in my Plus list to play too) Uncharted 1 (which I personally rate as better than 2) Beyond: Two Souls and The Puppeteer... are two exclusives I haven't yet played but are on my list to. The Ratchet & Clank series and Sly Cooper 4 are also games I need to get myself, but great looking platformers. I'm currently playing Shadow of the Colossus myself, great stuff!

Good summary of Nintendo's situation/Direct from this guy from Go Nintendo... http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/71m0uf/nintendo-fan-direct-big-games-for-2014

Is the Wii U good architecture to base the future around? Isn't at least a part of the third party problem that it differs considerably from the PC/PS4/XboxOne's much more shared architecture/parts now? Or is that purely down to the Gamepad?

Nice, what console version are you playing? -
Yeah tbf it purely comes from our own [false] expectations, although on the other hand those are also built on promises. I don't think anyone expected the Wii U's big Mario game to be a game like that so it came as a shock... that wasn't helped by trailer that didn't really deliver the message that later ones did. Likewise people were shocked to find out Retro were working on another DKC game. The thought was they were working on 'that next big franchise' or at least a Metroid, that might attract an audience the Wii U was failing to reach. I think everyone was happy and continue to be excited with Mario Kart, Smash, Bayonetta and X... although the latter two are quite niche games, so if they don't appeal to you things the future release list doesn't quite look so good. The biggest question I want to know is what on earth all the different Nintendo studios are working on. I feel that if I had some sort of answer to that I'd be able to make a decision over the Wii U, but the not knowing and uncertainty has been a constant for too long now. Guess we'll have to wait until E3.

A couple of great videos This one is a bit weird though :p Pastor just seems like an odd fit at Lotus.

@Hero\-of\-Time and @Goron_3 :p --- I've done 5 of the Collosus now on [unsurprisingly] SotC. The third one was absolutely epic!! The guy with the sword on top of the arena! By comparison I thought the 4th and 5th were a bit too easy. The 5th one was all over far too quickly. -
I think @Goron_3 was simply saying instead of spending £300 on a console at launch that wouldn't get games and feel like a bad investment, he could have spent £350 on a console at launch that would get games and feel like a good investment. EDIT: Oh that ninja has beaten me to my post. What is it in the UK £20 for the digital PS3 and £30 for the digital PS4 version. Still ridiculously expensive though. It should be £10 on both console... why should you have to pay more for the version of the game that the experience is clearly being built around anway? Or ideally they should have given it away with Castlevania Lords of Shadows 2 to get people to buy that game. What they're doing with this game is setting a really bad precedent for the future.
-
Yeah IGN said it should really have been a demo, especially as Nintendo refuse to acknowledge that it's Free2Play game. Apparently they coined the term Free2Start instead and then refused to even call it that during the Direct. They also said the free version is kinda pointless anyway as they don't think anyone playing that version stands much of a chance against people with the full version with all the upgrades unlocked, and it wouldn't be fun. And this is the problem with F2P games, that people are unfairly matched and can buy themselves wins basically. This is what Nintendo don't like, so it's a bit strange they've gone and done it.

It can't just be a case of having the Wii U/PS4 with the 3DS/Vita as the controller/dual screen though, simply because of how much that setup would cost for the consumer. I don't have a 3DS and would therefor love to have a way of streaming 3DS games to the home console though, and vice-versa, as Sony are allowing with all their PS4 games being playable on the Vita right? It just has to be done in a cost effective way.

First World Problems right there!

'Smash Kart' has the potential to be it's own series, because so little about it would actually be about Mario by the time they've done levels based around all the other series and characters, that the two could co-exist. And just like Smash Bros... Smash Kart would be crazy it terms of it's item potential Lego Nintendo should be more of an organic world I feel, with the mushroom kingdom leading into Hyrule, leading into DK's Jungle etc... like the Subspace Emissary. And like in Lego Marvel you can fly up to the helicarrier, you would be able to venture into Space for Metroid and Starfox, and even visit Dreamland

You don't know what'll it'll be though, those sneaky bastards'll get you again :awesome:
