I SO wish this game was on Wii U, it would be a real seller to me. Online multiplayer, DLC characters and greens, put in the Gamepad features/second screen use they've included in Wii Sports Golf, Mario themed golf mini games... Dammit Nintendo shouldn't have been reworking Wii Sports, they should have either given us a Wii Sports 2, or they should have had someone working on Mario Tennis and Golf (even Mario Baseball) for the Wii U.

Anyone get the feeling from the title and music/art style that this is Nintendo's 'oh that'll do' for Advance Wars?

For a second I thought we were getting a new PunchOut, that would have been something at least, if not the most desirable franchise and a questionable decision... 'but that's Nintendo' I thought. Nope. SSB trailer. Oh and then I thought other Nintendo characters in Mario Kart, when he said 'may not be what you're expecting'... and whilst the Koopalings are cool additions ... they're not Smash Kart!

Yeah at least MK8 looks all kinds of amazing.

I actually think Ice Climbers could work as a new, downloadable, exploration-adventure series for Nintendo! Ice Climbers as a name would just come to mean the two adventurers, and the series could take them all over the world on different expeditions. Like Journey each downloadable adventure need only be 2 hrs long, with one having them scaling a snowy mountain, the other having them venturing into a Peruvian jungle and temple. Like Nintendo's own episodic Uncharted/Indiana Jones style series. If Nintendo were brave, in single player it could control like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, with each side of the controller being responsible for a different character. In two player, whether players shared a controller or each had their own, with the two characters being tethered together with a length of rope I think a lot of the fun would just come from having to talk to each other throughout the game, it would be a brilliant co-op experience.

Now that we've been banding around the potential of a new Ice Climbers I'd like to see that! It has a lot of potential for a reboot. It doesn't have to be all cute and cuddly as the Ice Climbers appear in Smash, it only need be Ice Climbers in name and gameplay concept only; recognisable but not repetitive. Like Metroid was reinvented for the Gamecube. Nintendo have done a good job in Metroid and Kid Icarus lately in reinventing some of their franchises, but I think there's a lot of potential to go even further with it! And Ice Climbers in the style of Journey could be sublime. I'd love them to try new genre's, maybe even shorter more experimental games with their franchises.

I did consider each one of those their own character with only Birdo being a possible alternate costume... the more female characters, the more chance Smash has of passing that Bechdel test. ... so long as Daisy and Peach can be in a room together without discussing the plumbers.

Doubt we'll see any of that in our press conference, so they'll have to have something western specific lined up.

For me the overworld's kinda the best part though :p

You're explorers, when playing online you are paired up with your fellow climbing partner in the forgotten village at the base, are tethered to them, told the legendary tales of the mountain and are sent out to tame this monster and all that may await you.

An Ice Climbers game could have platforming levels like the 'Conquering the Summit' level from Galaxy, only a lot more fleshed out of course.
