  1. It's not simple and it just doesn't feel natural to do since you're basically telling yourself to do things the opposite way around. Buttons and sticks I can manage it, but I can't use the stylus on the DS in my right hand and use the d-pad with the left. It just doesn't work for me, despite always controlling movement with my left hand. Its the stylus thats the problem, I'm used to it being in the left (like a pen), so its not easy to suddenly start with the other. Its not really fair that people should be taught to put up with it. A game is there as a form of enjoyment, entertainment. You want to play it as naturally (as natural as games can be) as possible, without feeling that you're fighting against yourself and against the controller.
  2. Subtitles are pretty important. Although, it is an eye opener sometimes when I look at the subtitles available for a DVD and there's only the English language option. Really, we've got it easy in that respect compared to those in Mainland Europe. Lack of South Paw controls in games is disappointing. It's not really something you should ask for, it should just be there. Same with subtitles, in my opinion. I use them in all my games, because I don't want to miss an important line. I want to know what was said. Goafer: Do you play bass left handed? If so, did you have to pay more for the bass? I play drums lefty and I was looking at double bass drum pedals, and I would probably have to fork out double the price, maybe a few hundred quid more...just to get the left handed/footed option. Its a fucking joke really.
  3. They've got a good team, Bayern. They built up their team whilst the rest of the world focused on England, Spain and Italy. I think they're good competitors but they are also very unfortunate to exist at the same time as this Barcelona team, who only appear to be getting stronger. It would take something special to knock out Barcelona along the way. I think its a pretty good bet that they'll get to the final, again. If they get there and Bayern do, I can't see them putting enough out there to stop Barcelona overpowering them. Saying that, anything can happen in football.
  4. I'm left handed, but I play the majority of games using the "normal" default settings. The reason for this is that I grew up playing Super Mario All-Stars and was used to seeing the d-pad on the left side. Then, when I played the 64, I saw somebody hold it with their left hand over the middle "leg", over the analogue stick. So, I thought it should be played that way, with the left hand controlling the analogue. That continue with the Cube and so on. I didn't hear about Southpaw controls until not so long ago. It kinda blew my mind, that you could move with the other hand...Although I remember people saying they controlled James Bond in Goldeneye by using the C-buttons for movement and used the analogue to turn. Seems alien to me. (apparently there's quite a few options in the game, but I never bothered to look) However, that was until I played Metroid Prime: Hunters. I could not hold the stylus in my right hand and move with the d-pad. Didn't work for me. I had to hold the stylus in my left, because thats how I held the pen. Its a god-send that the DS is symmetrical. I played Hotel Dusk with the Lefty-flip option. Wouldn't been a huge pain otherwise. I feel your pain, Goafer. It shouldn't be something thats left out of the game. Multiple controller options should be there, so you can choose which one to go with. It's a pain that I'm worried about experiencing with Kid Icarus. The analogue slider on the 3DS is on the left...there's nothing on the right. So, I'm pretty much buggered when it comes to playing that.
  5. Champions League Draw Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor Group C: Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb Group E: Chelsea, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund Group G: Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, APOEL Nicosia Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen ~ ~ ~ Pretty happy with United's draw. Chelsea have an interesting one, particularly the match against Genk. Should be some good games there.
  6. Welcome to a long-distance relationship. It's not easy on the wallet. In fact, I don't even own a wallet. I carry loose change in my pocket. You need notes and 2 pound coins to properly make use of a wallet...
  7. One of my favourite songs. That riff that hits in at 46 seconds. This is just so perfect. Really like the melodic nature to New Order's stuff. It's something you can just listen to for hours and get lost in, yet it doesn't feel like any time has passed at all.
  8. I'm not saying that strictly handheld games need to be short, sharp games. Metroid Fusion is a game that I spent hours on, playing in bed. Why does it work? Because its not difficult to see what the hell you are doing, its a side-scroller for a start which makes it simple to see the path you're heading in, controls were tight, visuals were bright and clear (yet still moody when needed) and audio worked a treat. Compare this to Metroid Prime: Hunters. A "technical marvel" but the game played like leprosy. It simply wasn't an experience you could have in the palm of your hand, it felt like a scaled-down version of a game you've already played, rather than feeling like its own. Which is exactly what I don't agree with in regards to handheld games. They should feel like their own experience. It should be unique to that of a home console. Maybe this game isn't the best example, but lets think about it for a second. Is this game being done because: 1. It can be beneficial having it on a handheld console to provide a handheld experience? 2. Is it being done simply because it CAN be done on a handheld. (so, they may as well) If its the second, then its just simply wrong. I...don't really see how anyone can argue with that. will do. On the subject of handheld gaming, although I prefer home consoles, the DS has been by far and away my favourite handheld.
  9. Oi, not slagging it off at all. Just stating that a handheld gaming experience should be unique and different to that of a home console experience. Or else, why use handhelds? What pisses me off is this: 1. They are releasing this game on a handheld when it has made its fame as a home console game. Its quite a busy game where lots of things can be happening on the screen at once, particularly in intense battles. Touch screen controls can be good, yes, but they'd have to alter a bit more than that to either make the game less hectic, or so you can see more on the screen. (are you telling me that you would find it easy to control 17+ members of your party, also actually seeing them when they're in battle against multiple enemies, walking past buildings, interacting, going through different terrain, etc). 2. They are releasing this for the Vita. Bad move and not a great way to treat the fanbase who bought the original. 3. They're already changing things such as the art style, which is the charm of the original. I love handheld games, but games which made use of the best features of handhelds and make for portable and different experiences. Ultimately, I'm just fucked off with Konami for this bullshit move.
  10. It's pretty sweet that you can control quite a few of those games without the nunchuk. Other M uses Wiimote only and it uses it well. I didn't really bat an eyelid about the lack of Nunchuk when playing that game. Forgot that Brawl had a Wiimote only option. Never used it.
  11. Significantly cheaper, but at what cost to the game? Just because a game can be placed on a handheld doesn't mean it should. Not at all. It won't work because it's primarily a home console experience. It's not a pick up and play game. When you play, you put in hours of your life at a time. That's the nature of the game. Unless you're going down the route of seeing handheld gaming as "a home console experience in your hand" which is not what it should be. Handheld gaming should be portable, something you can play on the go. Electroplankton, for example, is perfect. Would not work on a home system. Anyway, judging by that first scan, it doesn't have the same instant charm the original had. I certainly won't be picking up a Vita to play this.
  12. ... .... ..... I forgot Mario Strikers for that list! FUUUUUUUUUU. It has to go in somewhere, dunno how I forgot it at all...spent a lot of time on it and love it. Stupid Brain.
  13. Gah, I really have to go and see it now. More and more people keep saying its good... I love that poster, Coolness. Very Planet of the Apes-y.
  14. Selling players is concerning when they're going to your close rivals, surely? You're making another team stronger, a rival, at the expense of your own. Chelsea's issue is that they have only (in recent times) had 1 manager that the players truly respect, with two others coming really close. Mourinho. He was the one who gave Chelsea the edge and gave them that team spirit. Also, the players respected him tremendously, notably the english players. They've come close twice, Ancelotti being the closest. He did well at Chelsea but given what went on since Mourinho left, it's a revolving door there now. The other manager, Guus Hiddink. Only there a short time, but you can easily tell that the team respect him. He knew what he was doing. The communication was there. The reason for United's success is because they have the right manager in charge. Even when it looks like his time is up, he somehow manages to pull something out of the bag and comes back stronger. He knows the game inside out and has adapted as time has gone on. Liverpool fans will know what its like to have an important manager because they had the same thing through the Shankly years. Having that manager there to guide you through is very important. If Arsene gets through this and learns from it, he'll come back stronger. Chelsea don't quite have that icon yet, and I still say that they had it with Mourinho and threw it away. City, I don't think Mancini is their man. Also, really happy that Brighton did well. Miss that place almost daily.
  15. Am I missing something here? Why does this need to be on a handheld? In fact, this is the last game I want to play on a handheld. You need to spend a fair bit of time playing it to work out what you need to do, there's a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and...it's fucking hard. Why would you want to play this on the bus to school or work in the morning? You actually need to sit down and concentrate. In addition to this, with the current save system, you need to go back to your castle to save. The formula for this game was great. To make it work on a handheld, they'd need to change something, which could upset the balance. Very poor decision to put this on the Vita, in my opinion. They risk alienating the Nintendo crowd by doing this, seeing as it was a fan favourite. The least they could do (if they go the handheld route) is to put this on the 3DS, as well.
  16. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? How does that even make any sense? Why the Vita?
  17. You can fit more sex into three weeks than two... Seriously, go for three. You'd be a mug not to. It's better to go for the extra week rather than wishing you had an extra week whilst flying home on that aeroplane. Also, you could plan to do lots of stuff, so that way you're not indoors too often, unless you like that. Go for three. I would.
  18. Miss Molly is celebrating her day of birth today! She hasn't been here in forever, but she has been to two meets and is lovely, so she's getting a thread. Happy Birthday, Leia.
  19. That's really good...it's actually pretty easy to build up a retro collection in no time. As you've seen yourself. When I was younger, I used to get a lot of megadrive and SNES games at car boot sales. A few quid here and there. Are you collecting peripherals as well, like the Nintendo Scope?
  20. I love that setup. I imagine there's a fuckton of cables at the back of that storage unit, though. Also, you win at life for displaying Super Mario Bros. 3 on the telly. Also, you win again for having Resident Evi Zero just out of shot in the bottom left hand corner. Carboot sales really are the way to go for getting this stuff cheap. That's a good deal for that Sega Saturn...I've never had one, but kinda want it for collection purposes.
  21. Just looking at his stats on wiki. 25 goals in 103 for Lazio and 4 in 14 when on-loan at Birmingham. For a secondary striker, it's not really bad. Looking at 1 in 4 there. As long as they don't break the bank for him, it could be a good buy.
  22. Every generation that passes seems to blame something. Whether that's the Sex Pistols corrupting people's minds, video-games causing violence or rap music promoting hatred. It's just very easy to blame these things rather than look at what the problems might be. People are very angry out there, even before these riots. Kids in inner cities are angry. It most definitely is down to social and economical issues, like Ramar said. I do agree with David when he says that it's "shopping with violence." I've no problem with what he's saying there, because he is right. It partly is down to materialism. Nothing to do with race. Children, youths, young adults, people have been very angry for generations now. It's the underclass who consider themselves to be suppressed, feeling cut off from the rest of society. That's why these people are angry, because they feel they have no place. It's very annoying when people hide behind the real problems and just lump it all onto race, gender, nationality, sexuality and so forth. People don't cause trouble because they're black or because they're male, or homosexual or Pakistani. They're free to make those choices themselves. Why they make those choices is where people should be looking.
  23. In fairness to Arsene, he has little choice about selling Nasri. He only has a year left on his contract, yes? So, the choices were to either sell him on now, sell him in January (where City might bid a fraction of the amount they are now) or keep him at the club and let him go for a free next year. It's not really good though that this has been left late. Unless they're seeing Hazard as his replacement, in which case, who is going to replace Fabregas? (unless thats a combination of Ramsey and Wilshere?) It's...very concerning that Arsenal are selling their players to City. Selling them to a club challenging for mid-table or even a club outside of the Premier League is good, but selling them to a club challenging for a top four spot, and the club that finished third last year and took the last automatic spot for the Champions League. It's a very clumsy decision to sell to City.
  24. This is a topic I've often thought about. But, it was only when I watched this video that I thought to bring it up here. Here is a video for Trauma Team. What actually made it interesting was two things: 1. Seeing that time limits are removed from the game. 2. This comment from a youtube user: I cried laughing at it. Mostly because there is truth to it. You can be on the last step of the operation, and if the timer runs out, it's game over. However, I actually really like having the time limit. It adds urgency to the game. I don't think the co-op would be anywhere near as fun on New Blood if the time limit had been removed. Otherwise, you could just take your time and...probably do it all very easily. Of course, there's a time limit in many games of all genres. Platformers, racing games, even fighters. What do we think?
