*ducks* Could well be, my friend. Could well be. Is this a troll? A pizza hut that runs out of pizza? Like...no pizza at all? Shouldn't they just be called Hut then?

Defensively, that was probably the best game we've played all season. We kept their chances to a minimum. I went ballistic when Vidic's goal went in. Fellaini and Jones should have been covering Schweinsteiger for his goal, which he took really well. I was expecting them to have so much of the ball, we were never going to be able to attack them with 60% of the ball (nobody can), but I thought we stifled them around the box. Vidic and Ferdinand were absolutely immense tonight...best centre-back pairing we've had all season, just a shame they're not both a few years younger. They pulled it out of the bag tonight, as did Buttner and Jones, as I thought they did well. We looked good in the second half with Kagawa. Valencia SHOULD have been sent off, and I think Bayern would have won the game had he gone. But, we got away with that. Finally, some luck this season. I can see Bayern beating us in Munich, especially as we'll have to go there and score at least once. But, either way, we didn't disgrace ourselves and we put in a good shift. Considering how we've done in the big games this season, I thought we showed that we can still compete with the best. Hopefully this will give the team some confidence for the return leg.

It winds me up when fans of any team say stuff like that. If the league is that important or if they don't care so much about the other competitions, why not put your youths, reserves or fringe players out for those games. Every club has players that need a run out, or players coming back from injury, or their youths need to get some match experience. I'd say that, as a whole, the Liverpool fans have been pretty realistic for the last few years. Yes, they've had nice little runs here and there in the cups, but they've mostly been realistic about the league. Yes, you will get that vocal optimism that a lot of fans from different clubs will give off, stuff about winning the league, top four, but I'd say that they're usually realistic about where they'd end up. They've known for a while that the squad hasn't been good enough or needs more quality. At least for the last decade or so. Funny enough, we'll be going through the same thing. You'll get a lot of fans saying that we'll win the league next year, because we're optimistic. But, realistically, we know that there's a lot of work to be done. If we thought this year was hard, next year is going to be even harder because Liverpool will strengthen (title or no title), as will City and Chelsea. Spurs will bring in more players and have a new manager, and I expect Arsenal will be up there. It might even be somewhat of a blessing for our team next year if we don't play in Europe because our focus should be on breaking back into the top 4. I don't think Moyes is ready to challenge on so many fronts yet.

This thread is now about nostalgia. Tried to find the advert with Gareth Southgate. - Sees BullBoys Shoes advert. - Thinks the shoes look cool. - Buys a pair. - Euro96 happens. - Gareth Southgate misses the penalty. - Realises that Gareth Southgate does the advert for BullBoys shoes. - Is laughed at in school. - Never worn again. - Didn't even get my free fucking shin pads. - I cri, evrytiem.

Am tempted to watch In Bruges whilst being in Bruges/Brugge, during the sexing of my Belgian. To complete the hat-trick. *checks bank account to see if possible to afford ticketings*

Wasn't too far wrong. De Gea Jones - Ferdinand - Vidic - Buttner Valencia - Fellaini - Carrick - Giggs Welbeck - Rooney We'll probably have Rooney dropping deep, playing behind Welbeck. Surprised that he's going with Fellaini, I'm curious to see how he'll perform in this game. Could make himself a hero tonight. Anyway, a different team to the one I wanted. But, there was absolutely no chance we'd have Kagawa playing.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Our season is effectively over. We have already hit our bottom and we don't have anything more to lose. Of course, getting beat 6-0 or something tonight would add further embarrassment to the club, but in truth, all we have left to play for is pride. A lot of pressure will be on Bayern to come here and turn us over. They've got a great team, won trophies last season and will be expected to keep that going. I'd even go as far to say that most of the pressure is on them, considering that we've underperformed and are expected to lose tonight.
-
Carrick can play centre-back. Under Fergie, we'd most likely have played Rafael, Smalling/Jones and they all would have had big performances. Even if we had lost the game, there would be plenty of fight in this team. We need everyone tonight to believe that they can win, and even if we don't...to go down trying. I'd rather lose giving it a fucking good go with a lot of spirit than to lose having giving up after the first 10. At this stage of the season, we know that barring a miracle run, we're going to finish with nothing, so it's all about pride now. I'm confident that we'll put in a shift tonight. Could be our best performance of the season, as it has to be really. Certainly the best one at Old Trafford. Expecting the fans to get behind the team. More than anything, I want to see us playing with guts and brains. No stupid fouls, no long-useless-punts upfield. Keeping the ball, using it well, tracking back when losing it.

That's the type of formation we need to be playing, I think I suggested something similar after our last few games. Although, we'd have to change that because of Mata being tied and Evra suspended, as @Eddage said. De Gea Rafael - Jones - Vidic - Buttner (as there's no other choice) Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs Kagawa - Rooney Welbeck Welbeck to hold the line. Rooney to win the ball from deep and have the lungs to get forward. Kagawa and Rooney to provide an outball whilst also covering the wings. Fletcher and Giggs to keep it tight in midfield. Carrick to shield the back four. The two question marks for me are at right back and left back. We're fucked in both areas as we have no back-up and Rafael is so, so reckless. If we survive tonight with no red card from any of the back four, I'll be happy. Actually, all four of the back four worries me. We'd need them all to have big games and put in huge performances. With my back four and yours, we have an aging Vidic, an in-experienced Jones and Smalling and a reckless Rafael, with no cover for left back. There's nobody who is experienced enough to step in at centre-back and do a job. I went with Vidic in the end as we need a huuuuge rock at the back, but I worry he'll get killed for pace. Might even be tempted to put Valencia at right-back, but I don't like doing that. We need all of the players in their right positions to get anything from this. I'd also be satisfied with this: De Gea Smalling - Evans - Jones - Buttner Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs Kagawa - Rooney Welbeck Although that's too inexperienced for my liking. What we'll probably end up with is this: De Gea Smalling - Ferdinand - Vidic - Buttner Valencia - Cleverley - Carrick - Giggs Welbeck - Rooney The formation matters, but what matters more is how we play, whether we can keep the ball and create any chances. We've played 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2, yet we've looked bad with both. It's whether we can move the ball quickly enough and get our better players on it.

Xpert 11 Season 30: The End of History, The Era of One Champion
Fierce_LiNk replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
This will most likely be my last match, as I don't expect to win. We're hoping to go out with a bang, so we're giving everything we've got. Just want to say that it's been a pleasure. If I do suddenly re-gain an interest in this or something exciting happens that makes me want to play, I'll be back on this. But, for one last time... Nintendo are definitely in a weird position at the moment. The Wii U idea seemed conflicting right from the very start. The fact that there were members of the public (quite a lot of them) confused over the fact that it was a new system, rather than an add-on didn't push it off to a good start. Then, the debacle over third parties. Nintendo seemed intent on offering third party games that didn't appear on the Wii, although that seems to have dried up now. Clearly, certain things need to change for the better...but what? For me, I'd change the following: 1. Take online gaming seriously. I can't believe that we're STILL on this one and we've been talking about this since about 2006, perhaps earlier. With the online modes, it always seems like an after-thought rather than something that is embedded within every single game. Nintendo really needs to be more pro-active in this regard, especially given the nature of our digital world. Miiverse was a beautiful start, but the fact that games such as Nintendoland and Super Mario 3D World don't feature any online at all (I have both, it could and should have worked) is shameful. 2. Risks. Risks, risks, risks. Take them. I get the feeling at the moment that Nintendo are playing it very safe in certain areas, when perhaps desperate times calls for desperate measures. There's no "curve-ball" or plan that's going to make the competition think. Even the idea of the Wii U itself was something that they had already done to an extent with the DS years beforehand, only home-console wide. We need new things that are going to draw people in, created from the very heart of Nintendo themselves. As great as Smash and Mario Kart look, these are new entries into IPs that we've known for years. We need new things. 3. Evolve. I get the feeling that Nintendo have been in a time-warp and have been stuck there for the last decade. The little things matter. When I was at school, we all talked about how the PS2 had a DVD player built-in, which was somewhat of a plus, whilst the Cube couldn't manage this. Fast forward to the PS4, which has blu-ray whilst the Wii U still can't manage DVD that systems have been doing for years. I get it. It's nice and romantic for Nintendo to have these ideas about ONLY PLAYING VIDEOGAMES on their systems...but I can't help but wonder what things would be like if they eased up in certain areas. Yesterday, you could buy a PS4 for £319 online. I paid just over a 100 pounds earlier for the Wii U...a technologically inferior machine and one that is in trouble. Added with the fact that I spent close to that 100 buying a separate blu-ray player, it seems like that deal wasn't too shabby at all. The price point for the Wii U isn't great, neither is the hardware nor the actual system features of the Wii U. Whilst the others evolve and improve their systems, I get the feeling that Nintendo are at a stand-still.

Just finished World 1.

That village was....d'aww. All those little 'pons. I think I spent hours just going around speaking to everyone and seeing how high up that village went. It's a lovely little area. All I can say is that I found that section and the areas after it completely awesome. Stick with it, brah. I've got that music in my head right now.

Totally disagree with all of this. It sounds like you're saying that playing in the Europa or Champions League is a hindrance. Well, it isn't. With those competitions comes the opportunity to win another trophy, as well as prize money, appearance money, tv money, all that stuff. Pluuuus, you can attract higher quality players to the club as they'll most likely want to be playing in these competitions. Would Liverpool rather be playing Bayern Munich tonight in the Champions League Quarter-Final, or would they rather be sat at home twiddling their thumbs? Easy answer. I'd go as far to say that the lack of European football for the last few seasons has put Liverpool at a disadvantage to the rest of their title competitors. Sure, you play less games, but the truth is that the teams such as Chelsea, City, United have built up bigger squads over the years to be able to cope with this demand, and a large chunk of that money will come from playing in other competitions. Yes, having a sugar daddy will help with this, too, but you can't just ignore the money that these competitions generate for a club, as well as the publicity. It's staggering.

I love that gif. Yeah, although I've only seen both films once and saw it in this order: The Fountain, Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream. I would definitely choose The Fountain in first place. They all leave a lasting impression, Aronofsky certainly knows how to create an epic climax at the end of his films. Also... - Has a Belgium woman. - Has never seen In Bruges. - Has never been to Bruges/Brugge.

Yeah, that gives me more hope. Just the fact that they're even bothering to make a current/last gen version worries me, though, especially as the game seems to have a complex AI and special lighting effects and so on. I'm not going to lie, my original reaction when I heard about this and saw the announcement trailer was...Colonial Marines started off very similar to this. That's made me so weary about this franchise, especially as how there hasn't been a good game about the series in yeeeears. Anyway, if it starts picking up 9s and high scores, I'll put an order down for a PS4 myself.

That motion tracker effect does look/sound pretty cool. It's also designed to force you to switch between the two, since you'll lose your field of vision when using the tracker, but it prevents you from just walking through the game with it in front of you. It all sounds and looks pretty awesome and what I ideally want in an Alien game. I just hope the execution is right. Imo, I'd love for them to just focus on the next gen systems/PC so that they can squeeze the absolute best from those machines. I worry it'll suffer from having its fingers in too many pies. I feel the same with Watch Dogs. Not entirely. The track emits a small pulse/low beep sound when just "searching" and then a higher beep when something comes within range. In the films, the range of the tracker is somewhere around 20 metres. So, you should be able to "hear" the beep well before seeing the Alien, giving you time to either shoot it (Aliens style) or hide/make a run for it. (Isolation). There might be a way to turn it off/mute it, although this is never shown or done in the films.
-
I might be going out on a limb here, but I think part of that would be down to how the Alien spots its prey. An additional sense and a greater awareness of its surroundings. It reminds me of that air-shaft scene in the first film where Dallas is being stalked, and then later again with Lambert and Parker. Of course, there does need to be a line somewhere. If you're hiding and are perfectly still, and the Alien STILL catches you...then hmm. One thing that worries me immensely about this game is the fact that Amazon have it listed for 360/PS3 as well as One/PS4. How optimised is this going to be for each console? It's showing a lot of good things so far, but I can also see it not living up to its promise.

What song(s) are you really into at the moment?!
Fierce_LiNk replied to Aneres11's topic in General Chit Chat
Maybeshewill are one of my favourite bands at the moment. This song is so hnnnnnnggggg. 1:58 gets me everytime. That riff at 1:05 onwards, too. Oh my. Beautiful song. -
I watched Requiem for a Dream yesterday for the first time. Scared to be on TV, take diet pills or heroin/10. Excellent film. I'd say that I probably preferred The Fountain and Black Swan over this one, though...hmm. Hard to decide.

I'm happy with that. Although, the plane did have an effect within the stadium as we conceded the first goal pretty soon after. It was bound to affect the team, but I'm happy with how we responded. Right, we need to play Kagawa-Mata-Rooney as a three in every single game. Maybe even a 4-3-2-1 with the two behind Rooney being Kagawa and Mata. Either way, we need to build this team around those three like Liverpool have built it around Suarez, Sturridge and now Sterling. The Liverpool/Spurs game is so interesting. It's a contrast between having a style of play and having expensive signings. The style of football wins almost any team. It's a team game and a team of 11 who play well and fluidly together will always beat a team of individuals. So many parallels between Spurs and United this season. Liverpool's style of football is good to watch AND they score goals.

Yesterday was fun, with some frustrating moments interspersed for good measure. :p I met up with a very old friend and his brand new girlfriend. First time meeting them, so they came around to our place to chill for a bit. We decided that we'd go to Nandos to get some food before visiting Bournemouth Aquarium. We all heard it was a bit meh, but thought it would be worth going to say we've done it/experience it, etc. We arrive at Tower Park for Nandos, everything is going swell. Listening to Smashing Pumpkins in the car for dat dere Hnggggggg time. Nandos is relatively busy as it's around 2 on a Saturday. Order food, order drinks (bottomless, mmm), sit down and start chatting. Next thing I know, tap on my shoulder and we're politely be told to leave the establishment as there is a fire evacuation in process. No biggie, it'll just be a precaution, we thought. So, we stand outside in the car park and a fire engine arrives. Then another. Aaaaand 4 or so more for good measure. We're then told move to the other side of the park (complete opposite end to our car), so we're all thinking it must be serious. As we're walking, we notice that there are tons of people wearing these silver foil/space blankets as they've just been kicked out of the swimming people. Park is pretty rammed at this point. We're sat for about half an hour outside Tesco and waited for an update. It turns out that there was a "chemical spill" with one of the chlorine tanks, so this is going to be a long one. We're essentially stuck as we're not allowed to go get our car on the other side of the park, and we can't really go anywhere else besides Tesco. So, there's the four of us sat at a bus stop kerb, eating malteasers and finding shit to pass the time. We use this site for updates. The scene did remind us ever so slightly of a Zombie disaster movie, so we posted on the comments page. Ours are the ones by "Hungry" and "Rick Grimes" (loool). By now, we're starving and the tin foil people are looking rather succulent in the sunshine... Somehow, people managed to get into their cars on the near side of the park and there was gridlock as they made their way through both exits. About 2 hours-ish later, we're told that we can walk to our car and hopefully everything will be sorted really soon. We're sat in the car, listening to Random Access Memories and playing Smartphone games. One hilarious game in particular is where you have that post-it note stuck to your head and you have to give that person clues about what is written there (can't think of the name). That kept our spirits high and was hilarious. We're coming up to 6 o'clock and the cordon has been lifted! There's only a handful of people left by this point, but we stayed as we wanted our spicy rice. We walk into Nandos and get told that they're not allowed to serve food for another hour...gaaaah. We walk over to another restaurant across the road...they're also busy and can't even seat us for another hour. So, we gave up and went back into Bournemouth for a mega-Indian. Oh my, it was worth the wait. Dat naan bread, dat rice, hnnnngggg. All in all, the food at the end made it worth it, but fuuuuuck. First time I've visited Nandos in about 7 years and this shit goes down. Am disappoint. But, the Indian more than made up for it.

So many feels in this game. Dat Reyn time. Nintendo are the Kings of Stupidity for not allowing you to use the GamePad's buttons/sticks when using Wii games (or at least non-Wiimote controller games). BRB, handheld Wii videogame system.

I saw an awesome, awesome, awesome video once about Super Metroid's level design and how you essentially fill in the blanks yourself. The game never actually teaches you anything. You're left in the world and are forced to figure things out for yourself. I'll try and dig it up, but the level design in that game is so intrinsic and detailed, yet very subtle. There's never an in-your-face moment that patronises the gamer, it gets the tone just right. I would murder all of your Mothers to just be able to play another Metroid game in the style of Super Metroid, with that tone, level design, detail and playability. How amazing would it be on 3DS, with one of the screens operating as your map all the time or showing your abilities/missile count, etc. Mindblown that Nintendo didn't do one for the DS...just...wutt?
