The first third of Skyward Sword is great. But, once you "figure out" its structure, it becomes laboured. I almost slept through the second and final third of the game. Also, The Imprisoned. Three times. Never again.

There's an interesting discussion in Wii U General about this. So, let's open it up to everyone else. I mark certain dates in my calender/brain that I don't let slip by me. Certain dates for huge football games, the girlfriend's birthday (can't fuck that one up, people) and E3. I love E3. It's Christmas for gamers. For me, it's a huge deal. I plan exactly what I'm doing during that week right down to the final detail. At least, for Nintendo's conferences. Personally, I would give up the Directs for another Conference. In a heart-beat. But, I concede that the Directs have their place, too. That Smash Bros. Direct was fantastic and we need more of that. However, I miss the interaction with the crowd, the adrenaline, the fact that things go wrong (it's part of the humour. Without the Conferences, we would never have a My Body is Ready or Riiiiidge Racerrrr), the audience going crazy over a huge reveal...or even the audience showing indifference towards something that one of the big companies feels should be getting a lot more love. Quite damning. So, where do we stand? How do we feel about E3 knowing that the Conference won't be there? For me, it isn't the same. It'll be "just another Direct" as far as I'm concerned.

Tbh, I'm not looking forward to Zelda. Skyward Sword wasn't a great game. Xenoblade, as far as I'm concerned, destroyed it in every single department. Nintendo will need something else, for me anyway. That's coming from an absolute fanboy for the console games.

Packed with what though? Your list has gone from this: to this: Which is very telling. Smash, although it may not have been revealed at that point, was something that Nintendo had been talking about for more than a year beforehand. It was expected to be there. Mario and Donkey Kong were games which looked very, very similar to games that hadn't been out for all that long (DKCReturns and 3D Land...there's no escaping this). So, the only "new" title is...Mario Kart. Again, it's all very telling. At a time when gamers wanted "new" things, we were given trailers for things that we already knew about about games that we had already been playing for years. Where's the innovation? There's no mistake when I say that Nintendo fans have been critical for some time over the lack of new IPs, so where are they? Where are the third party exclusives? Although there were things there that I liked, I can totally understand the frustration.

Smash was revealed at least a year before this show. A Link Between Worlds was revealed about 2 months before it. Wind Waker was January. I see you also mentioned Sonic Lost World earlier on (I think). That was revealed. About a month earlier. Showing these games that are coming is NOT the same as revealing them for the first time. It wasn't an amazing blow-out as you keep saying it was. Edit: Sorry to rub salt in the wounds, but Pokemon was also in January's direct.

Ahh, gutted. It all went to shit once we scored. We defended really well in the first half and didn't give them an inch. Once we scored, we lost our shape and became a bit too excited I think. We lost our composure and they moved it up a step. If we had prepared ourselves better than suffered the onslaught for just a bit longer, who knows. Still, considering many were tipping us to get absolutely battered over two legs, I don't feel too bad about going out. We were in it for a long time. Unfortunately, that third goal ruined us and we never looked like coming back in it. I love Patrice Evra, and his goal was a cracker. But, he showed his vulnerabilities defensively in that second half, and had a part to play in all three goals. A shame, but Jones and Smalling definitely were a lot better than he was. I thought Welbeck had a good game and gave it his best. Rooney was probably still injured with his toe, but he had chances tonight (one in the first, two in the second) and didn't take any of them. On a night where we need to hit the target with all of our chances, we couldn't afford for him to miss. We'll go away from this and come back better and stronger in the future. We have to.

Shiiiiiit, we're playing Kagawa. Hope he has a good game tonight. Let's do this. :awesome:
-
Gutted, brah. I'll watch the game and think of you...in a non-masturbatory way.
-
That makes much more sense. I'll be gutted if we don't get a Zelda trailer or information of some kind. Unless there's something else there instead that is equally as awesome.
-
Nah, it was solely one focusing on Smash Bros. Surprised you didn't know that, there was quite a bit of hype about it here. There will probably be another direct soon and we have E3 not far from now, so I'm content with all that.
-
This was one of the best things to come out from yesterday's direct. I love Sheik, but am not a fan of Zelda. Having to constantly transform was a bit annoying and distracting. It also makes the characters more fleshed out and developed. Big fan of that.
-
U dun goof'd, brah. It's a Smash Bros. Direct. They were never going to be showing anything else. :p

Sorry, I don't buy into the idea that an E3 can ever be too packed to put in a Zelda trailer. Nintendo haven't got the luxury at the moment of being able to with-hold important stuff like that. It's Zelda... Yeah, no dates. Available in 2014 is too vague. It doesn't give you confidence or it doesn't give you the right impression of Nintendo. They need to be much more specific with dates. I have a major gripe with Nintendo about this. As far as I know, the only firm date we've got for a big title is Mario Kart. That...isn't right at all. How are we meant to get hyped for these titles if we don't know when they're coming?

I don't really want to have to spend 130+ quid on a PS3 and then spend another few hundred on the PS4. It seems a bit counter-productive to me (plus all the issue with space, storing controllers, etc) Will wait for this Playstation Now information. Cheers, brah.

We didn't get a European date though, did we?

Bayonetta worries the shit out of me. It doesn't seem to be coming any time soon. All news of it seems to have dried up. Pilotwings could happen, I could see that coming. A Metroid in time for November though? No. I can't see that one. Would looove to get it wrong though. But, I can't see it. I also doubt they'll be able to get a full blown Zelda ready for 2015 unless it's Winter 2015. Even then, I think we'll see a trailer, but it won't be coming til 2016. They'll take their time with it, they won't be in a rush to get it out. I imagine we'll only get the one on the Wii U, so they'll pour everything they have into it until they get it right. Although saying that...2015 would be three years into the Wii U's lifespan, which would be the right time for a Zelda. So, maybe.

Help me out here, brahs. I have recently discovered/remembered that I quite like gaming. "Gaming is good. You like this," said the Brain to Jim. I've also realised that there are a fair few PS3 games that I want to try out. However, I'm not an idiot, and am also aware that there will no doubt be a fair few PS4 games that I want to play, too. Tomb Raider UltraSuperDefinitiveHyperVersion and Watch Dogs (I've lost faith in the Wii U version appearing...not even sure if it'll be good anyway on any system) and a few others. Basically, what is the situation with regards to backwards compatibility on the PS4? I've never owned a Playstation system, but I am interested in picking up a PS4 in the future, because I'll need to in order to get my sports fix. I don't really want to have to get a PS3 AND PS4. Will there be a solution provided in the future that allows the PS4 to play PS3 games? Will you only be able to download them or will it be as simple as a software patch that allows you to play the disc versions of games. I.e, will I be able to pick up a cheap PS3 game from Amazon or whatever, put it into the PS4 and it'll work (in the future)? Cheeeeers. I'm guessing the answer will be that most of this is unknown at this point.

Zero Suit Samus + Little Mac = my first choice fighters. Can't wait to fuck up all you bitches using these two. Maybe Charibrah, too.
-
It could just be that they're spending more time polishing certain aspects of the Wii U version. Maybe it's own single player modes or online still needs a bit of work. Imo, it's not a bad thing spreading out the releases. I wouldn't be able to afford both games at once and I'm sure if they had planned to release both on the same game, gamers would have grumbled about having to choose. At least this way, you can still afford to get both. Maybe even Smash as a Christmas present. I wonder if they had released the handheld game second whether it would be seen as an inferior product or an afterthought. Who knows? Either way, I don't think it's terrible the way that they've done it. I would have preferred the releases slightly closer together. But, as long as we get both in 2014, all is good. I'm curious to see if the GamePad is going to have any special features.

Chelsea were missing Hazard, who is arguably their biggest goal threat, too. :p Stop moaning and be gracious for once. I'm nervous as hellll about tonight's game. Above all, I just want to see us perform and give it our best. That's all that matters really. I think expecting us to go to Bayern and get a victory or a 2-2 draw is asking a lot of us. But, I'm confident we can at least make a game of it. They're going to be really up for it this time around. So nervous.
-
Yeah, even I'm tempted to pick up a 3DS and a copy of the game to play Ine. The thing that'll sell it for me is the release date. If it comes out in June, I will get this. No doubt. Will be playing both versions, though. There looks to be enough differences between the two to justify it.
-
Who? :p 3DS version looks sweet. I'm sold on that now. Both versions look equally great.
-
Ya, there will no doubt be more. Still, it would be good to have a hero and a villain from the big Nintendo games. Mario-Bower, Link-Ganondorf, Kirby-DeDeDe and MetaKnight, Samus-one of either Ridley, Kraid, Motherbrain, Space Pirate, etc.
-
One thing just struck me looking at that list. Not enough villains. There's a few too many "good guys" in my opinion. Bowser and DeDeDe are the only two that I spot on that.

Shulk would have been killer. With dat Monado. Or even REYN. Oh God... Yeah, I get the feeling that Little Mac was added to give this game more of a human element. Maybe even Zero Suit Samus, too. Shulk and a Xenoblade stage...maybe Prison Island? Or on the Bionis somewhere, in the fields, on a ledge.
