You raise a good point. This game would probably be more suited to the 3DS than the WiiU. Short, pick up and play levels, 3D-visuals (are Nintendo still trying to push that?).

I'm 99.9% certain Splatoon will have it, if only because there is no real excuse why it shouldn't have it. Smash Bros and Mario Kart can be excusable if you go down the route of them being mostly non-co-op experiences. E.g. there's no real tactical or team work element in either. Splatoon looks like it will have that element, so therefore it should be in the game. I say should, because you never know with Nintendo. (frankly, it's ridiculous that we're even pondering such a thing, it should have been there and confirmed ages ago)

I'm relieved actually, mostly because it means I won't have to spend money to buy a Vita, but also because for something that looks so yummy, you want to see that on the big screen. I'm also not a huge fan of the Vita's analogues, but that could have just been the model I was using in GAME...it looked a little battered. Is the next one going to be a cross-console experience, so Vita and PS4? That way everyone is happy.

You're pushing it by even putting Devil's Third onto the list. Very little is known about it and what is known doesn't make it sound like it'll be a great game. It would've been lost in memory if it wasn't for the fact that it's an exclusive game to the WiiU, which has somehow boosted its credibility. Zelda is a way off and very little has been shown about that. Out of what you've posted, Xenoblade is the one that is the most interesting, although it only really appeals to a certain audience and again no date has been given. A lot of Wii owners overlooked Xenoblade because it was a very long game and required a lot of time and effort to enjoy it. I loved it. The others that you have posted are literally it. If you love platformers, the WiiU is probably going to be ahead of the rest. Aside from that, it's going to struggle. Like I said earlier, once Smash Bros gets here and the year is over with, it's going to be a Nintendo-only machine, and there are certain genres that Nintendo themselves won't touch. Racers, for example. We've got Mario Kart and that'll probably be it. The DLC will keep that going and will probably draw certain people back in. Possibly the same with Smash Bros. Like I mentioned in the previous post, if you can live with it only being a Nintendo-only machine, you'll probably be ok with it. But, let's not dress it up as something that it isn't and start giving the illusion that it's got a great future or lineup ahead of it, because it is going to be slim pickings. @Paj\! already mentioned that he's not a serious gamer, so if he's only going to get out the WiiU for the occasional couch multiplayer game (a few rounds on Smash Bros. for example), it'll probably be a decent or a good purchase.

It looked lovely and seemed very interesting. I can imagine that the sequel being on the PS4 will be a major blow to the Vita, that sucks for the system. Good for me, though, mwhaha. I just hope the sequel is as charming and wonderful as this appeared. The vita seems like a nifty little machine and this is coming from somebody who doesn't like handheld gaming.

I've bolded the important part and agree with it a thousand times over. At the moment, there are some decent games for it. But, I worry for the system big time because there seems to be very little coming out in the future once Smash Bros. gets here. @Paj\!, if you're somebody who only occasionally turns on a games system, I think you'll be fine with the WiiU. The part where you mentioned that you're not a serious gamer stands out to me and I think the WiiU might be alright for you. You might also be ok with the 32GB system if you're not going to be playing it that much to warrant the purchase of an additional hard drive. I've hardly touched mine in months and can't see myself ever needing another hard drive, so I think you're fine there. Answering one of your earlier questions about third party support being limited: The answer to that is yes, it is. Third party support is all but drying up. If you do buy the WiiU, you'll be buying it for the Nintendo games because there will be very little else out there, apart from the few third party games which arrived early on. If you're buying it for the purpose of playing Mario Kart and Smash Bros with couch multiplayer, you should be ok and get by with it.

Chelsea were hard done by and the referee was card happy and made numerous bad decisions. However, I'm adamant that it doesn't really benefit any team in the long run because these decisions are so regular now...it's literally every weekend where there's various decisions that get talked about, it's a bit embarrassing. Every team is affected and at some point every team gets a decision that goes against them. It's clear that the referees need more help, so more needs to be done to fix this problem. As a spectacle, I don't enjoy watching matches as much when there are bad calls being given, everybody wants to enjoy the games where the right calls are given at the right time. Rugby is absolutely miles ahead of football in terms of officiating.

Tbh, it's a great system that's just going to get better. We've had no real issues setting the games up, organising a party chat and it seems to find competitive teams to play against really, really quickly. I was expecting waiting times of minutes but this takes seconds. When I was younger and played FIFA96 on the SNES, I always thought that it would be cool to have 11 of your mates playing on the same team, controlling a player each. Now, I'm finally able to do that. I've been addicted to this mode for that reason, it's great to see how videogames have progressed over the years for such a thing to be possible. Admittedly, it would have been great to do this on a Nintendo system, but...there's just far too many issues. Who knows if Pro Clubs would even have made it into the game and the game itself isn't even on the WiiU anyway. Plus, don't get me started on the lack of a party chat function and who knows if it would have even been possible to find teams to play against or how long it would take to do so. For this sort of this, you need a huge userbase of players and teams. I don't think that you'll find this on a Nintendo system. The PS3 and 360 will be getting phased out pretty soon, so I think the only real way you can experience these sorts of games will be on the PS4 or One.

Tbh, I'm not sure what we did wrong tonight. We started off very well and played some very good football. The opposition were using some bullshit tactics and we struggled with the balls over the top and these "ball-hoggers". What we could do with is a centre-back pairing who aren't the CPU, actual players who can deal with these balls, tall centre-backs who can stop these balls. I think literally every goal we conceded tonight came from a long ball from their half which just seemed to go to their man and they had an easy opportunity to score. There was one quite early on which I think just silenced us all...shocking really. There were tons of positives, though. - We were making great runs into the box and the communication between the attackers was fantastic. - We got back well to defend and transitioned into the counter-attacks quite well. - That game where we won 2-0 against that tricky opponent was a fantastic team performance. Think it was Esequiel who mentioned me playing in that defensive mid role, which I loved. We had that team in our pocket and they couldn't break us down. - We were much tighter and organised and had a higher possession rate of the ball. - Some of the through balls tonight were fantastic. We exploited the high line of many of the teams quite well, we just need to be more clinical I reckon. We've got a good core of players, but I definitely think we need more. I love being in central midfield, so would like to continue there. The problem is conceding those cheap goals (a left back, right back, central defender would help) and making sure we put our chances away. At the moment, the CPU is letting us down, it's not fully our fault at all. Good choice, we're loving 15 at the moment. What do you mean about the AI? It's a challenge, imo. I've found it quite difficult to break down teams and I've also read about the keepers being tougher to beat. But, you could always move it down to semi-pro or amateur or move it up if you find it too difficult or too easy. I'd give the demo a try if I were you and then go from there. I recommend it.

We were terrible in the second half, but I definitely think we were the better team in the first half. Not sure what happened in the second, but we seemed to stop creating chances and didn't play with the same intensity. The standard of refereeing in the Premier League this season has been shocking anyway. @Esequiel was saying that the ref was bad in the Liverpool game yesterday and he was also terrible in the West Brom/Palace game (probably the worst occurrence this weekend!). The ref should have blown for a foul before the free kick was actually taken because Terry was all over our man before the free kick was taken, then both Terry and Ivanovic were brought to the ground when the ball came in, so either one should have been a penalty. Think Ivanovic's sending off was harsh, not sure he deserved a second yellow for that. Overall, I thought we played well to deserve a point. A 1-0 defeat or a 1-0 victory with a goal from a set piece would have probably been fair, too. It's rather fitting that both goals came from the manner in which they did because I thought both defences held out for most of the game and there were very few chances. The only two clear cut chances were the Van Persie chance in the first half and the Hazard chance in the second, aside from that it was all foreplay. 1-1 seems fair, which is a great result for us considering who we have got out at the moment. (or suspended...cheers for that, Wayne) Fellaini was fantastic for us today and I think we've found his role in this team if he is to play regularly. A box-to-box role suits him well. I would have been delighted had he scored at the end but Courtois did well to keep him out. I am concerned about the centre of our defence and I'm growing tired at Jones, Evans and Smalling taking it in turns to be injured. Jones in particular is far too injury prone for my liking...our biggest problem at the moment is in central defence and we are having to rotate too much due to these injuries. Not sure if Van Gaal is going to be very patient there.
-
That was a great goal, I can imagine many school kids trying that out at break times. I fear for today's game. We're essentially doing the rebuilding job that we should have been doing last season and things are still messy. We're playing good attacking football, but there's such a huge gulf in quality between the attack and defence. I'm confident that we can score, but can also see us conceding. This Chelsea team are ruthless and although I think under Van Gaal we'll improve, I have to admit that this Chelsea side are probably going to walk the league. Wouldn't be surprised if we lost this 1-3 or if we even win it 3-1. Herrera looks fantastic but he's got a broken rib and had to play in midweek with a special...corset type thing. We really need him 100% if we're going to get anything out of this. Blind needs to carry on his good form. Rooney (the fucker) is going to be a loss too, if only for his workrate. The worst case scenario is that we lose this 5-0. I'd take a 2-2, but I'd love us to sneak this.

I tried a demo for Gravity Rush in GAME the other day. Hnnnnnnng, the game was wonderful. Is it actually quite good then or does it lose its charm later? I hear that a sequel may be coming to the PS4, is dis truuuu?

6 would be great. It'll give me time to watch the game and cool down afterwards before taking out all of my frustration on this game.
-
I'm shattered. I've been a bit lazy by my standards for the last two weeks and took a break from lifting to enjoy some of the games that I had bought. I've lifted a lot since then (and in fairness, did shit loads before that, so the rest was deserved) and just hit my legs tonight. Fuuark, lunges are the absolute worst. Squats are terrible, stiff legged deadlifts are awful, but lunges are designed to ruin me. I feel like I'm going to throw up every single time when I go heavy. I can feel the blood pumping right the way to my quads, it's so, so fucking nice but also simultaneously horrible.

To be honest, you probably won't get anywhere near as much out of it if you're not a fan of the original film. I grew up with the Alien series, watched the first three in particular hundreds of times, cried when I was given the Quadrilogy DVD boxset as a birthday gift from my friends, went to see the Director's Cut of Alien in the cinema for Halloween and probably a whole lot of other things, too. I followed the news regarding Colonial Marines very closely and saw the game rise to must-have title and then fall apart into the abyss in a matter of months. There have been several games that have had certain elements of the series and nailed it in some respects, but have never fully recreated it in videogaming fashion. Alien Vs. Predator 1 and 2 on the PC were great shooters that modelled themselves on the sequel Aliens, they captured the way that the Alien moved and had good sound effects for the creatures. The campaign was decent and gave you a few nervous moments (quite a few terrifying ones too, but on a different level to Alien Isolation). For me, the biggest thing is that we've never had a game based on the first film that contains the same themes as the original. The majority of the games take the inspiration from Aliens, which is absolutely fine because it does contain a lot of elements that it make it more videogame-friendly, especially due to the popularity of first person shooters. In AvP2, for example, you have the weapons that are seen in the movie Aliens, complete with accurate sound effects. So, it's cool, but in a completely different way to A:I. What I've been looking for is a game that sums up Alien and manages to recreate that. Alien Isolation does that. You feel alone throughout most of the game and it's a relief when you encounter more people, although it's a rarity. Your weapons are mostly useless against the Alien, with only one or two being used as a "repellent" to fend it off. As far as I know, you can't kill it. There's a nice amount of symmetry here between this and Alien because the creature comes across as this invincible being, they successfully recreate that here. However, like I mentioned above, the game won't be as awesome if you're not a fan of the films. You could still enjoy it a lot because it's a very good game and it gets your heart racing. But, 99.9% of the appeal for me with this game is the movie licence and where all of its inspiration and ideas come from. My advice: watch the film. Be patient because there's a great deal of build up and it's not a very fast paced film. It is, hand on my heart, my favourite film of all time. It is inspirational on so many levels to the majority of science fiction movies that have been seen since and rewrote the book on how to create suspense and fear for the viewer. I've just noticed that I've been typing and typing for ages! I have a lot to say about it, I guess. Watch the films, brah. Especially the first two. It has to be done.

Haha. I feel like the teenage-LiNk every time I play the game. I'll spot something or hear something and immediately be transported back in time to the first occasion where I watched the film. I always wanted moar of that world and now we finally have it. The lighting in this game in particular is beautiful. There's certain segments of the game where it just catches you off guard and you realise how beautiful this game is. If you do get it, you absolutely have to play it with headphones on to appreciate the sound design. Basically, for the Alien geek in me, the game is orgasmic.

Not sure why it looking like a SEGA visual would be a bad thing. :p
-
Game does look pretty good. Very pretty, too. Remember all those discussions about the "other consoles" just containing grey, boring shooters? How the times have changed.
-
How does it work exactly? I'm very interested in it. So much so that I'll play through the game again if I ever do get the camera. How far are you into the game? I love it, probably one of my most memorable experiences and I still have a way to go yet. That would have failed me yesterday because I properly jumped and semi-screamed yesterday. Good man! I tell you what, the balance between how often you come across the alien, the quantity of androids and scavengers on the ship is absolutely spot on. The save points are also so well placed...they're not too close so that it becomes a doddle and they're not too far apart that you end up redoing sections over and over again. The balance is so right in this game.
-
Look at the pluses, though. We kept possession pretty well (think we had the highest possession stats that I've seen since I've been there), we communicated well for the most part and we looked more dangerous from crosses. The downsides are that we struggled to get into shooting positions and the AI on our team was absolute shite. Every goal we seemed to concede wasn't really our fault and there wasn't an awful lot we could have done to prevent them. We were unlucky. Once we get Dazzy and gmac back, we'll look better. I still think we need another two players to play at right and left back to help us provide that width. We'd look more dangerous on the wings that way and I think it would give us another dimension.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U Direct (23rd October 23:00)
Fierce_LiNk replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
What do you mean by the first part? :p I don't mind the Other M model, because then it at least fits in with that stage that you encounter it on. But, still, meh. It's a half-measure because he's actually in the game and is quite useful, but he's not what many have been calling out for. Why not just put him in there? We've had Solid Snake for goodness sake and now we have Pacman...I'm sure they could get Ridley to work. In fact, I think he looks great but it could have been even better. The two examples I gave are co-operative, sure. But, the fact is that it doesn't matter because the voice chat is at an OS level anyway. So, even if we were playing something like Injustice or going against each other on FIFA, the system is still the same. Nintendo clearly haven't learned in that respect because this is something that has been in place for years and it really should have been done on the OS level. We'd never, ever have to read another discussion about "oh, is voice chat in this game?" if they'd have simply done that. I guess there's still the possibility that it could be added in the future? Maybe? -
That's the only thing I was concerned about, but it's probably like most other WiiU games and doesn't use the screen for anything. Unless of course you want off-tv play, which I don't care about any more. I'd go for the Pro controller if I were you. It's not great, but it's better than using that clunky mess of a GamePad for gaming. @Glen\-i, what's the name of that store? Insane deal.
-
It's all ifs and buts though, isn't it? Essentially, we're comparing what a system "could" be like to two systems that are already in place (and that have been in place for years) that already work. For me, there's no comparison. There's tons of possibilities with this, but there were also tons of possibilities with WiiMotion+ that never ever got realised, for example. In my opinion, the time for "possibilities" is over and we actually need to start seeing results now. If this is the system that they're going with, then good, let's just hope that they go in full throttle and actually see it fully fleshed out.
