It's both. What makes or defines what a home console is? When the Switch is docked and linked to the television, it's the same as if you had a WiiU linked to it. Whether it is on par with current home consoles should be the question. This will easily be the most powerful handheld up to its point of release, but the part that interests me is how it matches up to other home console systems. This is where memory expansion, OS, additional features, tv/video/streaming services come into play. Right off the bat, we know it won't be capable of playing physical media like blu-rays or DVDs, so that's out.

I think I tried Dirt3 on PSNow and it was pretty good. I'm not a massive fan of the genre though, so it didn't hold my attention for too long. Worth a play, though. Rapture is lovely. I had a wonderful time with that game. You have to accept it for what it is, however. It's more of an "experience" rather than a game, somewhat.

I'm not so hung-up on whether it's a home console or handheld. It does the job of both. If you want it to be a handheld, then you can take it out with you. If you want to just play at home, keep it in the dock. At least, that's what it appears to be marketed as. I'm also not too bothered about the lack of information. If there was absolutely nothing else to play, then I'd be a bit more annoyed. But, in truth, I'm quite satisfied at the moment with how my gaming life is going and am treating the Switch as something that I could potentially want, but don't necessarily need. The console isn't suddenly going to appear one day in stores without information, so the news will come. Plus, in this day and age of Internet leaks, speculation and so on, it'll be interesting when we do get little snippets, which will inevitably happen. We knew what the Switch (then NX) was going to be weeks beforehand due to leaks and insider reports, so I'm expecting the same thing to happen with system features, launch line-ups and prices. I feel very serene about it all.

Nintendo Switch Presentation 13th Jan 2017

This is three days before my birthday! Ruin my birthday and I'll gut you, Nintendo! Jokes. *looks menacingly at the screen* -
I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't get the reference until I searched eet up: The first thing that came to mind when I saw that CV was that it reminded me of a restaurant menu. The "grading" is a bit strange with the stars and the "good" "excellent" comments. It's one of those CVs that looks impressive from a distance but very empty the more you look at it. There are some things that I do quite like about it. The contact details are there and the sections are clearly defined. Visually, it looks clean and quite interesting at a first glance. I don't think employers just quickly browse over CVs, though. It's a tricky one. Coming from a teaching background, the application (notably the two page supporting statement within it) is regarded as the criteria that you're primarily judged on and the CV is almost a borderline supplement. I'd say that it depends on the job you're going for. If all of your skills and achievements are listed on the application form, do you necessarily need them in as equal depth on the CV, too? I'd still personally like them in more depth than is shown on that example, though.

Just read these posts. Take care, guys.

Much better in the second half. Quicker football, more forward-thinking and attempting to cause their defenders lots of trouble. Herrera was our best player by far, but I thought Rojo and Mata also looked good. Overall, a deserved narrow victory.

The passing in this Manchester Derby is some of the worst I've ever seen. From both sides. Considering the stature of the teams and the quality of the players, it's abysmal.

I've sent off my first application form in about 7 years. At least the ball has started rolling. I've got an interview with a teaching agency tomorrow at 9:30, too.

The problem I have with being "strong" or "less emotional" is that why do you just have to display one characteristic? Why do you have to be either strong or emotional? I find categorising people to be bizarre because we're basically limiting them by doing so. "Oh, this person is a girly girl", "he's a man's man", "he's tough", etc. How boring. At least that's how I see it. What exactly is tough anyway? I think a person can be lots of things. Most of the men I know aren't just one thing, they're a mixture of several qualities. Funny, approachable, moody, optimistic at times, pessimistic at others, tired, etc. I think @Eenuh would say I'm all of those things! I don't necessarily think traditional is better. You could play devil's advocate and suggest that the traditional model for men was for them to oppress women. For them to be kept in the house all day long whilst men forged careers or went out drinking, etc.

Sure, I get it. I bought a Wii and launched and it was quite magical to be discovering this new, quirky thing with lots of other forumers. I didn't buy the WiiU on launch and don't feel like I missed out on anything. Part of this will be down to the Switch's lineup. The Wii launched with Zelda: Twilight Princess, WiiSports and games like Red Steel, which was a big deal at the time. I can't even remember what the WiiU came with. NintendoLand and I'm sure the rest of the lineup was a big insignificant really. There's quite a few problems at times with buying stuff on release anyway. You pay over the odds and you may find that you miss out on good deals later down the line, especially in this day and age where it's quite easy to spot a good dealio thanks to the Internet. I do think everyone has their price, though. (on a sidenote, we're pretty good with our money, especially the woman. We're suckers for a good deal)
-
How much you pay is down to what you value you at, which is perceived by the consumer. There's a difference between some of the numbers we're talking about here, which range from £350 max to £200min. That's a huge gap and shouldn't be snuffed at. You also have to be reasonable. You're going to need to buy a game with the system, unless one comes bundled with it. So, that's an average of around £40 per game. If we go with the highest quoted price of £350 + one game at £40, suddenly we're nearing that £400 mark you were talking about. What if you want to have a second game at launch? How much the console costs is key. If the price is high and enough of us don't buy it, who's to say that the price won't unexpectedly drop? It's happened before, at least with the 3DS. I'm sure the PS3 had a price drop, too? It certainly won't be funny then if you're 60 quid out of pocket had you waited a few months.
-
That's a pretty good prediction and I think it's realistic. Would that affect the battery life of the JCs too much?
-
Same. Those are the numbers I'm going with. I imagine the dock will come bundled with it, so that'll drive the cost up. There's heaps of technology in the Switch, especially when you factor in that the Joy-Cons probably have their own separate batteries and can work in a few different ways (attached to Switch, used independently and then attached to that controller thing to make a more traditional controller). That can't be cheap to produce and it's an integral part of the whole package, so that'll again drive costs up. That's not even taking into account that the system looks like a massive step up from the 3DS, Nintendo's previous handheld. This isn't going to be cheap.

I had a positive experience with PSNow and can only say good things about it. It was easy to sign up, straightforward to use and simple to cancel when I didn't need it at that time. I found the whole thing quite impressive and exciting that the technology worked at all. I don't remember seeing the MGS games on there, but that was months ago and might have changed. I stream music (Spotify), I stream film and TV (Netflix, NowTV), so I have no problem streaming games.
-
For 200 quid, I'd definitely jump in. That's the same I paid for a WiiU. I'm sure there would be good value for money at that price. I honestly can't see it being anywhere near that, though.

Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!
Fierce_LiNk replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Think of it from another viewpoint. The previous systems didn't get these games, so what's different now? What's changed that will allow these games to appear? Has the audience grown? Is the appetite there? I don't think enough has changed for these games suddenly to appear. The likes of Capcom and Square will be hoping that the Switch flies off the shelves. If it starts breaking sales records and is a hit with the "right type of games and gamers", then it could happen. At the moment, I think if you honestly want the new Street Fight, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil, you wouldn't wait for the Switch. It's still a "maybe". What will determine whether these games come on or not is the size and type of its audience. -
I've been trying both the FIFA and PES demos and I enjoyed FIFA a lot more than I thought I would have. I was on an evening duty at school and played FIFA against one of the older kids and I really like the way it felt and played. Some of the joy that was missing from 16 seemed to be apparent in 17. I bought it and it arrived yesterday and I have to say that the presentation and general feel of the game is stunning. It really does feel like a high-end product. What's great to me is that it just feels better balanced than 16 was. 16 just felt like they'd ramped up the difficulty/defending to stop you scoring, whereas this is more free-flowing. Some of the things that I wanted to do in 16 but couldn't can now be done here. I've been scoring some great goals, but it's still a challenge in the right places. Think it's been a good purchase.
-
Honestly, I think it'll get both kinds. As long as the console is powerful to run it, it'll get games of those types. Similar to how the PS4 can get games like Hotline Miami, Axiom Verge, etc. It'll be up to the gamer to choose how they play it, whether that's on a bus or on the sofa.
-
I'm curious about the pricing for this. To me, it's attempting to do what the WiiU did, but properly. I.e., you can take it with you anywhere and it doubles up as both the handheld and home console. I see this as being between the £320-350 mark. It's interesting because somebody like @Eenuh, who's into her handheld games, could get lots of mileage out of this.
-
Tbh, that's what I thought, too. This sounds a bit strange, but it's probably one of those things that makes more sense when you see it in action.
