3DS and Wii U eShop purchases to end March 2023
sumo73 replied to Helmsly's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I read recently that a few reports have come out about some people switching on their Wii U's after some extended time only to find the NAND inside has failed or has become corrupted. This could be due to the time left alone or I believe certain chips used in the console. -
It's the point that the BBC is back in the news again which I talked about earlier. For some people, it will move away from Gary Linker and what he said and move into x person is paid too much and we should defund the BBC...

This is a non story to me. I remember years ago (2008), the press went on and on about Jonathan Ross who went to a Russell Brand show on the BBC and said some silly things. The whole thing was blown up by the press. When the BBC is in the news, I lose interest in the story. It's bread and circuses. I don't have a TV license and I don't watch TV. If Gary Lineker wants to say something on his own twitter account then that's up to him. If he says something political on MOTD then that is a completely different angle. PS - Ashley, enjoy Japan!

In Charlie Brooker's 'How videogames changed the world', he says Twitter is the number 1 game 'Twitter is a massively multiplayer online game in which you choose an interesting avatar and then roll player persona loosely based on your own. Attempting to accrue followers by repeatedly pressing lettered buttons to form interesting sentences'. I'm not a big fan of social media in general and there have been multiple studies showing the link between increased social media usage and depression, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. Seeking validation from others in that way seems false. As much as some journalists want to see Elon and Twitter self explode it won't, and after a few months I think things will get back to some level of stability. Twitter is a business and it needs to turn a profit and people need their dopamine hit.

What are various series' lowest points?
sumo73 replied to Glen-i's topic in General Gaming Discussion
The lowest point perhaps was 'Resident Evil Survivor' on the PS. It was too short and the hardware was showing it's age when the game was released. Sales - 483,900 -
If you already have SplatNet 3 from the Nintendo Switch Online app, scan this from the app (not outside) and get an exclusive banner to use in game.

Got the game yesterday and I agree mostly with 'more of the same, a little better'. I'm sure more things will be added to it but so far it's good. The little things they've added to the game make it feel more polished overall. I still play Splatoon and Splatoon 2 even now so know I will be playing this long into the future.

Why the polarised question? Regardless, I remember being a loyal GameCube owner back in the day and I heard about this game in gaming magazines all the time. When it came out and I played it I felt slightly disappointed especially as the PS2 version would be out not long after. It would have been great if some of the earlier ideas from the RE4 prototypes had been put into the game and I felt that the story and game style was quite removed from the old RE stories. RE4 was the game that needed to come out, it helped revive the series and brought a lot of new fans to the series as a whole. I think it's a great game and I loved the Mercs mini game as well. The best game in the series for me however is Resident Evil (remake) on the Gamecube.

I still have my Commodore 16 and ZX Spectrum collections at home so I can go as far back as I want. Normally when I go back with consoles/computer the first 5 minutes is a bit odd but I soon get back to playing the game.

I have my booster tomorrow straight after work. The first vaccine jab was terrible, the second was a lot better and I have no clue about tomorrow. However I expect to be resting and playing Nintendo Switch games in bed on Sunday.

Well I had the choice a few months ago to get the Asian release but I decided against it. The Japanese version has the option of English voices unlike the Wii U Japanese version but there's no option for English text when reading messages on the screen. It's not a deal breaker for me, just it will take me longer to understand the messages on screen. In an ideal world there should have been a limited edition Western physical release. Edit: Game got patched in November 2021 which allows English text and voice in the game.

I already have this twice on the Wii U but wanted the Switch physical release. My Japanese is not great so this is gonna be a struggle.

You can still add money to the Wii U just through Nintendo's website and not via the console anymore unless it's eShop cards which you have already said. I think if you have a Wii U and Switch on the same Nintendo ID and Nintendo account you could add funds via the Switch and then use that on the Wii U this would save on buying eShop cards. https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/How-to-Merge-Nintendo-Account-and-Nintendo-Network-ID-Funds-1462433.html If you intend to download a lot of titles it might be worth thinking about getting an external hard drive with a Y cable at some point later on (avoid USB flash drives). The premium model is ok but it does tend to fill up over time if you download a lot. As for navigating the Wii U menus, it's good idea to turn on the quick start menu on the gamepad. You can get into a game quicker that way provided you have played it recently. Enjoy the Wii U!

Zombi U is out on other systems as a digital release (Zombi) but the physical Wii U version isn't that expensive and it's also worth looking at. Rodea The Sky Soldier might be interesting (Wii U and Wii version in one pack). The Wii version is generally viewed as the better game. Finally, Paper Mario: Color Splash. With regards the Wii U e-shop purchases (credit/debit card) have to be done via Nintendo's website and can no longer be done via the console anymore (since Sept 2019). I have a Japanese Wii U as well but don't have this issue.

I played a lot of Splatoon on the Wii U and it's worth playing especially as not that expensive to pick up. Game and Wario is worth a mention as well although that will cost you more. Affordable Space Adventures is also worth looking into via the e-shop. Edit - The Wii U eshop is not closing down in January 2022, just the method of adding funds to accounts is changing.

Two N64's (one PAL and one JPN) and a Nintendo Switch (not the OLED model sadly).

The Great Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram Outage
sumo73 replied to Ashley's topic in General Chit Chat
This didn't directly affect me when it happened as I was working and using Skype/Zoom at the time. If they had gone down that would have been bad for me. I use facebook just once a week but use Whatsapp more. I spoke to a few people about this and some moved over to other platforms like telegram for that day while others were left in the dark why their account for instagram, whatsapp didn't work. The more connected we are, the more things like this will hit us in the future. -
Not so keen on the new announcer in the game (Brian Matt was the best) but will pick this game up at some point.

COVID-19 (The artist formally known as Coronavirus)
sumo73 replied to bob's topic in General Chit Chat
I had my second jab almost two weeks ago and it was a lot milder than the first one. The first one was really bad for me so I was worried the second would be a repeat experience. On a side note, it's sad to see the muted Tokyo Olympics. I have issues with the current UK government but we have got coming up to 60% of the population vaccinated. Had Japan acted faster the Olympics would more popular than it is now. I wonder how the winter games will do in 2022? -

I think it was expected for the London Mayor to make that decision for people to wear masks and I support that measure. More people are going are going to stop working from home over the next few weeks and it's going to get very busy with people travelling to and from work. If we want to see what will happen after the 19th of July, just see what's happening in The Netherlands right now. -

I wore masks long before the government could make up it's mind in 2020 and will continue to wear masks after the 19th of July even though I will have my second jab next week. During this pandemic we needed great leaders, we didn't get them we just got average leaders at best. In confined areas like buses or trains, I think masks should continue but it will soon be down to our own personal view to wear one or not despite the fact that the Delta variant is increasing and globally Covid isn't going away anywhere soon. -

I'd like to know which government or which country around the world got it right when dealing with Covid 19? Maybe when this is all over the world can find the blueprint of how to deal with any future pandemic and stop us making the same mistakes again. As for Labour and the Conservatives, I wouldn't vote for either right now. Not really sure what either party stands for anymore. I do not trust the Conservatives and Labour took their eye off the working class a while ago, sorry to say. -

I've been out shopping a few times recently and was surprised by the lack of people wearing face masks. I guess most people are sick of everything by now and think that everything will be over by 21st June in England at least. I'm not so sure. I spoke with a Japanese friend yesterday and we both aren't sure how the Olympics are going to happen next month. Sure it can happen but right now in Japan the number of people who have at least one vaccine dose is less than 8%. -
The Exercise & Fitness Thread: The Struggle Is Real

Of course it's a sport but as I nickname I used to hate it but I'm fine with it now. Good luck with the swimming. It's a good form of exercise.
