  1. Hmmm. I was going for 'comic troll' figure. OK, tell you what. I'll stop acting like a mature judge when you stop acting like a religious convert. Spot on for me. I almost always complete every game I start. And some to their absolute limit. Take Metroid Prime 3. I completed it, then completed it on a harder mode collecting 100% and I still intend to complete it again on the hardest difficulty at some point. I like to er, milk my games for all their sweet tasty goodness. I still intend to finish Zelda I on the VC, so it will be a long time before I admit there is nothing on the Wii to play.
  2. Yes!! At last you've accepted that you're two different people with different tastes! Finally we can move on... NOOOOOOOO!!!
  3. Hmm, that's odd. So the Wii version is as faithful a port as can be expected! I wonder if Dave's supercomp runs it better.
  4. Confirmed: Goldeneye 2010 Q1 release Seriously, that is sad news indeed. For a game that sold ~8 million, you'd think someone would be willing to make a huge effort to overcome those groinal injuries.
  5. Wow, you replied to everyone in this thread. I think I'm beginning to see why you don't have much time for games... That got me thinking. Could we actually be the same person, Fight Club style, with me having no memory of posting the FLink posts and you having no memory of posting the Patch posts? Ummm, no, probably not. Aha, you have brothers and I don't. So there we go. Not the same person. I didn't have to waste all that profound thinking time earlier then. Come to think of it, we had a Megadrive and a SNES. As children, we had time to play all the games for them, many times over. As adults, we all have varying amounts of free time and differing urges to play videogames. Some would justify needing multiple consoles for the large library it affords them. I would justify needing only one console because I barely have time to play the games I want on that. Woah! Didn't I more-or-less just say that? Back to the profound thinking again then...
  6. Haha, though I was fairly certain I would enjoy it, I wouldn't have minded otherwise as I bought the cheap Platinum version. Thanks for the tip. Sounds like this game is going to last quite some time.
  7. But then how would I do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs? Anyone else waiting for Tales of Monkey Island Part II - Siege of Spinner Cay? PC heads have had it for a while now. It seems a little odd to force us Wii-owners to wait for longer, pay more and suffer an inferior version with jerkiness and lack of audio clarity.
  8. Nice post. I agree with everything you've said. Except for all that personal stuff. I don't know you, so I can't confirm or deny those bits. I would think most young children have access to just one console, and that is more than enough for them - parents would probably say they spend too much time on that one console! As adults, are we really that different to these youngsters? Do we need two or three consoles? I don't - I have more than enough to get through, with a large backlog of games growing ever higher and higher.
  9. *slurring* Listen. PAL. If I have . . . 4 shots in 4 glasses every . . . 4 hours for 4 days, then that's . . . 4 shots, innit? *collapses*
  10. Well, I've finally started playing it. I'm in love with the graphical style - it's like playing a cartoon. There's nothing revolutionary in there so far, but it's easy to get into, light-hearted and most of all, fun. I'm really enjoying it. I laughed out loud when seeing the 'monster' in the first town Farebury. Most RPGs let you ransack people's houses for items, but for some reason in this game, I feel really guilty for doing so! My first venture out of town ended very swiftly. After only two battles, I was scurrying back to town, needing a rest and a save, feeling a little like a whipped dog. Thankfully you gain quite a few levels early on and I felt some satisfaction in leaving town by one gate and crossing the outside world to enter it by the other! After a few more battles, getting some better armour and the Hero learning Heal, I was striding around. The 'secret project' that King Trode works on at night is very intriguing. Looking forward to playing more in the next few days. So now I'm two hours in and I've only just made it to the waterfall cave, though I like to take my time, exploring everything thoroughly.
  11. Those numbers make my head hurt. With the last two years being ridiculously profitable for Nintendo, it does make me wonder what goes on in their board meetings. What are they going to do with that money? Surely now they can afford to be making, like, I dunno, 2 games a quarter instead of one?* *Numbers exagerrated to incriminate the innocent
  12. Haha! "And quick, while you're at it, dig out that old Phantom Hourglass footage from before we decided to ditch the train system in favour of boats".
  13. Good. Well done. I think every E3 could always be better. Some better than others. I was surprised to see Iwata say that. Not many CEOs would admit something like that. I imagine Nintendo as living in their own little world for 360 days of the year. Then they come to E3 and suddenly realise what they are up against from their competitors and that's when the realism sets in. Think of it that way, and you can see why Iwata grabbed Masahiro Sakurai by the curlies at one E3 and told him he was making another Smash Brothers game.
  14. I totally see where you're coming from and it's an interesting thought. Is Virtual Reality simply the experience of an event that is not real, no matter how unrealistic? If so, television gives us virtual reality to a certain degree. I can remember watching Jurassic Park at the cinema and almost feeling like I was there, drenched with rain and about to be eaten or crushed to death. Of course, this was simply sensory input made realistic by the large screen size and surround sound. Videogames are pretty much the same, but with added interaction. That is, your decisions affect the outcome. Does Virtual Reality have to include this interaction? Probably not at first. I would therefore expect to see gains towards Virtual Reality not just in the videogame sector but in the film/TV industry too. Look at the new wave of 3D films for instance. Looking at the untapped senses, perhaps the next step is for cinemas to have smell-o-vision! We could probably live without the sense of taste being replicated, but the hardest hurdle would undoubtedly be emulating the sense of touch. You know, preferably without those big black cables inserted in your body a la The Matrix.
  15. Ah, I see. They 'buff' you up. Also like the 'Source' items in Final Fantasy. Magic Source, Power Source etc... Thanks for the tip about Humanity and Heal. Getting Heal early on sounds like it would be very useful. Oh yeah. Good point. Revised: It doesn't bother me that a handheld game has inferior graphics - the length of the cutscenes is where it's at for me.
  16. Hey, thanks for all the info Grazzy. I have mixed feelings about having a big cast of characters to choose from. On the one hand there is flexibility and good replay value and on the other hand, there is the constant nagging feeling you're neglecting someone who could be really useful! Spears, axes, don't sell items. Gotcha. Though I'm dying to know what a 'buff' is.
  17. The wall, a hammer, bare fists etc... I can't remember ever abandoning a game early on*. I'm either a genius at predicting which games I'm going to enjoy before buying them, or I'm just really easy to please (ooh look, a white cloud!). *Not counting the highs and lows of the Speccy era at any rate.
  18. I've been playing an equal number of RPGs on a handheld and on a console for years now. Handheld-wise, I love revisiting RPGs from my youth. The last three RPGs I've played on the DS have been Chrono Trigger, FFVI Advance and FFIII (DS remake). Console-wise, I am planning to start DQVIII soon and possibly a Persona game after that. I have also revisited RPGs from my youth via the VC. It doesn't bother me that a handheld game has inferior graphics - the gameplay is where it's at for me. Thanks. By all accounts, I'll be playing it for a while.
  19. Then how come I am playing RPG's on the DS more then I am on consoles? This made me laugh - I love these sorts of hard-headed responses. You're asking why Sheika's opinion of something isn't the same as yours. Shock horror! I suppose if he'd said his favourite colour is blue, you'd have said 'Then how come my favourite colour is red? Huh? HUH? Answer that then!'. Yep, it's pointless trying to change someone's opinion on the internet. Far better to accept that everyone has different tastes and discuss, rather than snipe, no? I was hoping for some more positive comments about the game to get me hyped. I'm already quite hyped, having played the game for a few minutes just to get a taste for it. It looks very cartoony and light-hearted, as I expected. I've never played a DQ game before, will this be a good introduction to the series? Is it typical fare for a DQ game, or does it stray from the usual DQ formula?
  20. Hmmm, I'm not seeing many reasons for 'Why is it so good?' there. I'll be starting this after I finish Vice City Stories. Really looking forward to it. Out of interest, what do you like about the game?
  21. No brown polygons for me, but I did get dropped into a game where I couldn't move. I was waiting for someone to kill me, as I was right in the middle of an open area. Though I could see them, I don't think they could see me, so I didn't die. I couldn't do anything apart from that weird thing you described with the floaty gun tracking left and right. Happened on my first ever online match. It was fine after that, though I've only played it for one evening.
  22. Wow. One day you'll step on the board and the screen will continue to flash "Please Stand on the Wii Balance Board". Maybe I've missed some of your earlier posts describing a wasting condition you have?
  23. Yes! I'm a massive Super Monkey Ball fan (even got the jerky GBA version) and this has made my day! I would like to see some multiplayer options for the single player game. Races, banana collecting, that sort of thing.
  24. Indeed - I didn't realise there would be so much reading involved, not that I mind. There's even a warning on the back of the box: 'Moderate Reading Skills Required' or something similar. It feels like reading a book - it's an intriguing story and a very relaxing game. Been meaning to say this for a while, but when I run from one area to the next, seeing the landscape literally pop into view, with the trees and lamposts that were laying on the ground bouncing up to attention, I grin every single time - it's brilliant.
  25. I haven't finished it yet, but assuming the last level isn't an unfinished wireframe prototype I would agree with everything you've said. I'd be interested to know Emasher's score out of ten - only if he wants to, that is.
