1. Weren't you tempted to play it seriously al the way to the end? I've logged over 30 hours now, so I'm quite keen to move on to Chrono Trigger and Chinatown Wars. The espers will have to wait until a year when I have no games to play (as if that will ever happen!). I'll probably update this thread again if I finish the game.
2. I am studiously trying to avoid reading any of the posts in this thread at the moment. I just wanted to say I have started playing this game and it is absolutely brilliant. I've always been a big fan of text/graphical adventures and so far, this is up with the best of them. What I like so far is that the pace is slow and the story is detailed. It's like reading a mystery novel, rather than playing an action game.
3. The cinematic-free experience is something I'm very grateful for, after finishing FF7 recently. Update - Mild Spoilers I've been playing this on and off for a while now. I think I got as far as the last dungeon when I played this on the SNES back in the day and then gave up. I've now recruited everyone back into my party except the character from the Floating Continent which I stupidly left behind. I'm fairly determined to finish it this time. I've defeated all the dragons and levelled up my characters to a decent degree. I am not collecting all the espers though. With a few godly relics, I'm now ready to face the last dungeon. Bring it!
4. That's a nice idea. I may get round to it at some point. Course, I'd feel guilty that the time spent entering my games should be time spent clearing my backlog!
5. Yes, exactly what I was trying to say. Even the best looking DS game might have trouble captivating a reviewer who's just finished a review of Super Graphical Adventurismo 4 on PSP. Personally, this is why I trust single-format media (e.g. NGamer) more than multi-format media (Edge).
6. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Edge succumbed to comparing the Conduit with PS3 and XBOX360 FPS games. I've not read the review and I haven't played the game, so I could easily be completely wrong. But it doesn't surprise me to see the Conduit scored low by multi-format publications. Whether they realise it or not, they are going to have a hard time being Wii-centric and not drawing comparisons with other games from other systems. Surely The Conduit should be reviewed on its technical merits within the bounds of what is capable on the Wii? And judging from videos, it's close to being the best shooter on the Wii IMO. What score did Edge give Red Steel out of interest?
7. Cool. I've just finished Liberty City Stories. The only GTA game left for me to play now is Vice City Stories. I still have God of War II to finish, Dragon Quest VIII to play as well.
8. Looks like dark grey to me. I know the Wii is selling fast enough not to warrant new colours over here and yada yada yada, but it would be nice if they at least released the controllers in different colours. That way, everyone in the house could feel like they have their own controller. Without using rubber skins.
9. Scores now up to date. Scores / nando / (18) goaferboy (13) Moogleviper (9) D_prOdigy (9) Shino (9) darksnowman (8) Happenstance (7) steggy (5) Coolness Bears (5) Deathborn (5) mcj metroid (5) Patch (5) dwarf gourami (4) Chris the great (3) Jonnas (3) ShavenWolf (3) welsh_gamer (2) Pookiablo (2) Mundi (1) tapedeck (1) Dyson (1)
10. Did shavenwolf already guess that one? (kurushi or intelligence qube in the US). Pink hair. Hmm... The only character in a game with pink hair that I can think of is Popoi from Secret of Mana. So I'll guess that. Even though it's wrong.
11. My thoughts exactly. There is no way a singer/dancer won't win every single year and it's crap. Yes, the singers have amazing singing talent, but they don't write the song and if they're feeling really inventive, they may move a muscle or two. They're like scientists who are really good at drawing other people's equations. It's far harder to produce two or three minutes of completely original material.
12. 8. Thunderforce IV. Er, oh yeah. My bad. I can't read. -1 steggy, +1 Happenstance.
13. All correct. Told you they were easy. They were all DS games by the way. Scores / nando / (18) goaferboy (13) Moogleviper (9) darksnowman (7) Shino (7) steggy (6) Happenstance (5) Coolness Bears (5) Deathborn (4) Patch (4) Chris the great (3) D_prOdigy (3) dwarf gourami (3) Jonnas (2) welsh_gamer (1) ShavenWolf (1) Mundi (1) mcj metroid (1) Pookiablo (1)
14. After seeing the previous scan, it will take a lot to convince me that anything on the Internet is real any more. Including this so-called 'forum' of so-called 'people'. It's more convincing than the last one, but I reckon it's still a fake. Someone out there craves attention on a scale that only celebrities on a love island can dream of.
15. To be honest, after months of doing this, I struggle to actually think of even four games to post, never mind 27!
16. Here are some easy ones: 1. 2. 3. (cropped) 4.
17. It's true that the snapshot was taken from the demo (assuming the website is correct), but the rules of this game are not strict enough to go into details about specifying the exact version of a game. That being the case, I would say it is up to the poster to decide who to award the point to (i.e. how picky they want to be). I posted a pic of Final Fantasy VI a while back. I would have accepted Final Fantasy VI (SNES) or Final Fantasy VI Advance (GBA), whichever one came first. I've updated the scores with dwarf's 'Crusader No Remorse' and nando's 'Kid Chameleon' and 'Need for Speed'. Scores / nando / (18) goaferboy (13) Moogleviper (9) darksnowman (7) Shino (7) Happenstance (5) Coolness Bears (5) Deathborn (4) Patch (4) steggy (4) Chris the great (3) Jonnas (2) D_prOdigy (2) dwarf gourami (2) welsh_gamer (1) ShavenWolf (1) Mundi (1) mcj metroid (1) Pookiablo (1)
18. So - the only space left in your house to put things is on your ironing board. Out of interest, what were your winning numbers?
19. Sorry, it was a little chaotic back there. If it gets too difficult, I reserve the right to give up on keeping score! Scores (including Nando's tally) / nando / (14) goaferboy (13) Moogleviper (9) darksnowman (7) Shino (7) Happenstance (5) Coolness Bears (5) Deathborn (4) Patch (4) Chris the great (3) Jonnas (2) D_prOdigy (2) steggy (2) welsh_gamer (1) ShavenWolf (1) Mundi (1) mcj metroid (1) Pookiablo (1) dwarf gourami (1) Come on guys! steggy's game must fall! And don't forget there are still some audio clips on the previous page to be guessed.
20. Awesome indeed. Imagine the next generation controllers coming out after those - Woah! They've put a button on the controller! Talk about an unprecedented revolution in hardware design.
21. Heh. He is the only user cool enough to have two entries. I guess that's 2 for him then.
22. OK, here are the scores to the best of my knowledge: Scores / nando / (14) goaferboy (13) Moogleviper (8) Shino (6) Happenstance (5) Deathborn (4) Patch (4) darksnowman (3) Chris the great (3) Jonnas (2) D_prOdigy (2) steggy (2) Coolness Bears (1) welsh_gamer (1) ShavenWolf (1) Mundi (1) Coolness Bears (1) Pookiablo (1) Points to note: dwarf's score tally added up to 26, even though only 25 out of 27 were guessed, so someone has an extra point somewhere. Was Soundtrack #10 in fact '18 Wheeler', as guessed by Nando? I didn't see a confirmation of that, so nando may deserve an extra point if so. There are some audio clips still to be guessed (see top of this page) and there is one more of steggy's pictures left: I think we need another clue.
23. Haha, I feel sorry for the sucker who was in charge of updating scores. Er . . . oh. I've tried to isolate the pictures that haven't been guessed yet. Please correct me if they've already been guessed. steggy 1 Clue:PC action shooter, renowned at the time for its destructible scenery. It's rumoured that it took place within the Wing Commander universe. Also came out on the PSX & Saturn. steggy 3 Clue: Yup tapedeck, this was well known for it's graphics engine back in the day. Used Voxel's rather than polygons, for most of the scenery and characters. Needed a mamouth PC at the time, but had some seriously nice water effects. nando 2 nando 4 dwarf 1 dwarf 21 I'm cheekily guessing Tomb Raider: Anniversary for dwarf21. There's also audio clips further up this page still to be guessed (I wish my comp had sound!).
