The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Mr-Paul replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Where did £160 come from? The press release says £89.99. -
Sums it up perfectly. On first impressions, I was impressed, other than the price. But really, what have they got at launch? A Wii U game, a Switch mini-game compilation that could be good, and not a lot else.
-
I don't think anyone said $299 would be good unless it included pack-in games. Which it doesn't. Most were hoping for £250 or less with a game. As it is, it'll cost you over £300 with one game. I want to get Zelda for it so much, but it's a fucking lot of money when I can just get it on Wii U and wait for a price drop.

Morning early risers!

Overwatch also shows that you can also succeed with a cartoony-style aimed towards a slightly older audience. Nintendo don't have to go ultra-realistic/gritty/grey/brown to appeal to a wider range of gamers.

It's a bit silly that this has all come from @drahkon saying the leaks haven't excited him yet and joking that if all these leaks are all that will feature in it that he won't have to get up at stupid o'clock to watch it! They haven't excited me yet either to be honest! The Rabbids have little appeal to me unless the game looks really really good. And a Rayman Legends port is a bit of a joke. Bringing up a PS4 presentation which held a completely different purpose and exists in a whole different context due to its wholly different circumstances was silly. What on earth is wrong with wanting an FPS from one of Nintendo's teams? It's a perfectly reasonable desire. Splatoon is great, but what's wrong with wishing for something different too? I'm looking forward to 3D Mario, New Zelda. Ports of Wii U games are good I guess, if they're cheap and filling gaps and not the main feature of the release schedule, but not exciting in anyway. It's what the likes of Retro etc. have up their sleeves that hold the key. Plus, the degree of third party support. Whether Nintendo are going to get any multi-platform stuff from the start, or whether it's all late, token ports. Not long to wait to find out.
-
But it doesn't have to be generic! It can be special! Space shooters are popular. If other developers aren't going to put their space shooter on a Nintendo console, surely it's a good idea to make their own space shooter to tempt people over? Nintendo have awesome development teams. Who's to say they can't make an absolutely awesome sci-fi shooter with their own special Nintendo touches? Metroid Prime was one!
-
Except where in this current discussion did sheikah say that? All this started from the great third party titles available on the gamecube...
-
Because they don't want to buy it for it to just be a Nintendo box. It's not as much of a good investment. The console doing well and having 3rd party games/exclusives is good for anyone who buys the console, whether they have a PS4 too or not. If the Switch is unique and good, it should give them reasons to buy multiplat games on it over PS4/XBO. You can argue that if the games aren't coming to Switch, they'll go to PS4/Xbox One anyway, but surely part of the point is that Nintendo should be encouraging other developers to be creating games that wouldn't exist without Nintendo's platform. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to argue with Sheikah - you both essentially want there to be 3rd party games on Switch.

2016 hasn't been one of the greatest years for me, gaming-wise. I haven't really played a lot. The only Nintendo game I have bought was the Twilight Princess remake. Oh, and Pokémon Yellow on 3DS. There's still some things from Nintendo I would pick up, but I just haven't been that inspired by them. Got Pokémon Sun coming to me as a Christmas gift, but to be honest, this has been the most disappointing year for me in terms of Nintendo since I first got my Game Boy Color in 1998. Had a few things on my PS4 ticking me over, and to be honest there's a lot for me to catch up on there too, and the last month or so I've been enjoying Overwatch even though I don't manage to get on it as much as I'd like to! The game I've spent most of my time on this year has to be Pokémon Go! Just reached 100 in my Pokédex and went up to Level 25! I can't say it's the greatest game in the world but it keeps me busy when walking around or on the bus. Haven't been on it anywhere nears as much in the last few months compared to July and August but it still gets used most days!

So true! (For those who don't have me on FB, Gareth Edwards and the cast turned up to introduce the film!) Really enjoyed it, have to say on first viewing that I preferred The Force Awakens, mainly because of the absolute joy that film gave me. Still very good though and am looking forward to seeing it again, probably some time over the weekend.

Another one in the midnight crew, did the BFI IMAX last year, this time the Cineworld IMAX in Leicester Square! Annoyingly just went into my email inbox to get my eticket and saw I actually won tickets to go and see it last night, a day early, and totally missed it! Ah well, ended up busy anyway, and better that I noticed it now rather than Monday morning after the RSVP time! Not long to go!
-
Absolutely what I expect to happen. 2-0 loss away followed by a 3-1 win at home. I do think we've got it in us to get through this season though.

That is a great deal! Might have to look into that myself!

Sorry to bring it back to the whole business of leaks/blacklisting, but this is one of the big issues with tech/consumer journalism. It can sometimes straddle a fine line between PR and actual journalism. Tech news outlets rely on manufacturers/publishers to provide them with the products to review as they want to provide timely content to their audience, but the company like Nintendo want to control the information that gets out as much as they can, they provide their product so they can get the maximum coverage. Journalists need to get cosy with the company and their PRs to get exclusive coverage and scoops, but can sometimes get too cosy. Or, if they go off message, can be punished and have their access restricted. With big outlets like Eurogamer, they can get away with posting leaks and such, because the PR benefit of them going to Nintendo's events and reviewing their games is too great as they have a large audience. Let's Play Video Games, however, aren't as prominent, Nintendo probably can do without their coverage, and want to discourage others from posting leaks. If they're good journalists, it won't put them off posting more leaks if they get them. But from a business perspective, they'd have to weigh up the benefit of the traffic they get from these leaks vs. not getting any review copies etc. I commend them for posting the leaks. Journalistically, it's the right thing to do. But in the world of tech journalism, you can't realistically do so without being punished in some way unless you're too valuable to the company from a PR perspective. LPVG, unfortunately for them, aren't.

No problems, I enjoy those sort of games that mix it up a bit! It's just a shame about the wait. It's clear I need more practice to get up to your guys levels though as I'm still pretty fresh to the game - sometimes I do well but then sometimes I'm goddamn awful still!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Mr-Paul replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
That's a very fair point, damsel in distress is probably pushing it a bit too far into the Princess Peach region, but she is still largely a 'support' character and still vulnerable when she is active, the likes of Hyrule Warriors aside. When she's Tetra is another matter, but as soon as she's revealed as Zelda she's back in hiding. It would be cool if she is more of the 'Warrior Princess' in this, a hero in her own right, leading Hyrule in battle. -

I just presumed it was Zelda! I'm thinking that both that one and the hand at the end were her. Would be quite cool if she was playable, or this is hinting at her being more "action" than a damsel in distress. -
Christmas decorating with my flatmates this evening but will try to get on later for some games with other newbies on quickplay!
-
Yeah count me in for the WhatsApp group! Will help get me on as the same time as you lot! Away for the weekend but I need to get in on some games with you when I'm back.
-
Do it! I've had it a week now, and haven't had too much opportunity to play it, but been having fun with the time I've had. Up to level 10 now. Liking the new arcade mode that has been introduced this week, and the new character Sombra is a lot of fun to play with, definitely one of my favourite characters at the moment.
-
I don't think it's too bad a price. Depends how much longevity it has really. Would've definitely preferred £4.99 though. And it's a tricky decision for me whether to get it on my iPad or wait until it comes to Android.

Was a lot of fun watching the stream, kept me going through work yesterday afternoon and the early hours of this morning. Watching cricket with Banjo Kazooie in the background makes it a lot more fun! I think you also convinced several people that they need to buy Cloudberry Kingdom! It was addictive to watch despite it looking very frustrating and very unfair at times to play! You should all be very proud of yourselves for raising so much money for a great cause, in memory of a great guy who is sorely missed around here. Gutted I couldn't join you because of work, but it looked like you were having our great time and I hope all the conversation in the chat helped keep you going! Once again, a massive well done

US Presidential Election 2016 - Nightmare Mode
Mr-Paul replied to gaggle64's topic in General Chit Chat
Why did I ever think America would be more sensible than Britain? This is a disaster. -
I think Sumo has a fair point. As far as I'm aware, the Sega Megadrive was more popular in this country than the NES and SNES. I don't remember much about the era myself as I was only young and didn't get my first console until the Game Boy Color, but my cousins and neighbours who I used to play games with had Segas. My first exposure to Nintendo was the N64 and Game Boy.
