  1. I had seen this when it was first broadcast! Had totally forgotten about her being in it. Watched again the other night, just brilliant. Started watching some old Eccleston/Tennant eps. Hearing Tennant's Doctor voice shocked me after getting so used to his normal scottish accent in things like Broadchurch recently!
  2. People are looking at the worse case scenario because Nintendo have done nothing in the past that suggests that this will improve, that this is just a start and it'll improve in the future. There's no reason to make an app that can't run in the background. There's no reason why it should be limited to just the game you are playing, especially seeing it isn't being ran through the game itself but a phone app. Maybe it will be improved, but that will surely be down to reacting to the backlash rather than what they ever intended. There's no reason why such a crap app was made other than they're completely clueless on how to build an online system. I haven't got a Switch yet, but it's ridiculous that it has friend codes, after they had supposedly brought in an integrated system with NNIDs and then Nintendo Accounts, then bring in another for Switch! As far as I can tell, bringing in DeNA has been a shambles too. Many thought it'd help create an integrated system, whereas in fact things have almost become even more segmented, with individual game friend codes for their mobile games! Having a mobile app that connect to an online network - great, good, excellent. Having that be the only way to use the online network and the actual console's online options being so limited - unacceptable. They should have just focused on getting on-console online gaming right, then created the app to help with online gaming on the go.
  3. Not sure if I can make the Friday or not but if I can will let you know, would be great to catch up and i'm always good for some cricket chat! (my life has been consumed with it lately!) And yeah, where is everyone in this thread!? Shorty, you don't need to feel like you should pull out at all! There's only been about 5 people say they can/can't go, and you're being the most pro-active about going (and the one travelling down for it!)
  4. It's on my watch list! Annoyingly not on Netflix!
  5. This is quite frankly ridiculous and I struggle to see how you came to any of those conclusions from the finale, let alone your thoughts on the "masculinity is wrong". There is no anti-male agenda going on here. There's no female superiority going on here. Just a bit of gender equality. Yes, the Doctor has always been a man. But is there any reason the Doctor has to be a man? This is one of the only shows with a long running continuity where the main character can be anything or anyone they want, male or female, with it still being the same person. It's not pushing an agenda, it's not an appeal for controversy - it's a progressive step to men and women being equal in our society. It's both a reflection of how society is changing for the better, and a step that will help reinforce the growing equality. As @Ashley said, it's fine, and normal, for girls to have male role models/heroes, and boys to have female role models/heroes. We've seen recently in another major sci-fi franchise, Star Wars, two lead female protagonists. On a recent trip to Disneyland Paris, I saw little girls dressed up as Rey and Leia but also as Darth Vader, Obi-Wan. Boys were also dressed up as Captain Phasma - a female character. This isn't a reduction in masculinity. This is just liking a character. Having said that it doesn't matter what gender your role models and heroes are, there's definitely value in there being prominent female heroes for girls to look up to. I've been working on the Women's Cricket World Cup. Women's cricket has always had very minor exposure, but that's changing thanks to increased TV coverage and social media. I've seen first hand how having female role models can help young girls really believe they can do something. Previous generations will have only seen men playing it on TV, and not thought of it as a viable thing for a girl to do. That's changing. The analogy doesn't perfectly match, and although girls can have male heroes, like female sports players can look up to male sports stars, it will do nothing but help more even girls get into sci-fi if there are female heroes to admire. How is that a bad thing? I for one am looking forward to seeing how Jodie Whittaker fits into the role! Not sure I've seen her in anything other than Broadchurch, which she was very good in.
  6. It's all cool. I'd rather it suit the people who are travelling a distance for it than someone who lives in London anyway. I sadly have to be in Southampton to feed a cat that weekend. Can't let him starve! Gutted to miss out but that's the way it is!
  7. I unfortunately probably won't be able to make the 19th. Going to be out of London that weekend. 12th was better for me, but no worries - am sure I can meet up with the London lot some other time.
  8. Nick Clegg gone. Tim Farron apparently asking for recounts. Not good for former/current Lib Dem leaders! Saddened that Scotland seems to be turning Tory
  9. Sadly haven't had much time to post about this election/campaign at all, but thought I should post something on my Facebook the night before the election. It certainly drew out some of the (thankfully few) Tories on my friends list... Like @Rummy, providing the public link for if you fancy a look at the comments!
  10. I'd say just the latest thing that counts But seriously, still buzzing at how good we were today.
  11. London is red! 13 x FA Cup winners! What a performance today!
  12. I love Eurovision but am out in Dubai so it's on later at night and I can't watch with the classic sarcastic commentary - just off a official Youtube live stream. Takes the fun out of it a bit. Catching up on the first semi-final right now and nothing's quite standing out to me yet 7 songs in, other than Swedens, which I'm sure that I've heard before, probably because it sounds like everything else in the charts right now.
  13. My availability is quite bad this summer due to work (big cricket tournaments going on in June and July), and then after my busy June and July, cat-sitting for my parents while they're on holiday. I've marked those weekends as maybes, but they're not really ideal for me at all. The mid-August ones are the most ideal for me.
  14. Going on my first ever business trip abroad on Monday... 3 and half weeks in Dubai!
  15. Remain/Remain. Still can't believe quite how mean and reckless our government are being. Well, I shouldn't be surprised really.
  16. You know what I hate about this game? It always starts raining when I need to carry a fucking torch.
  17. Just wanted to say thanks again @Marcamillian and @Rummy for inviting us along, was a fun night and was great to see you again! Had a lot of fun with Codenames and Secret Hitler! Good to catch up with @Zell and @Sheikah again too!
  18. Thanks for the invite! I've had an insane last couple of days and got a busy couple coming up, so I might be absolutely dead, but will absolutely try and come down for a drink seeing it's less than a half hour walk from my house! Happy Birthday @Marcamillian!
  19. Just had the pleasure of interviewing one of the greatest cricket players ever, Sachin Tendulkar. Buzzing. (cue @Ashley to tell me cricket is boring for the 100th time)
  20. I'm so sorry to hear of so many issues with various retailers yesterday after I was in here the other day telling everyone not to worry. If you've been in the Zelda thread, you'll see that I even had issues of my own with Wii U Breath of the Wild from Amazon! It's very odd that many sites that usually are so reliable for people dropped the ball on a major console launch, and then too don't have a clue about what's going on when you contact them! I hope everyone who is having any issues gets them resolved ASAP so they can start enjoying Switch as soon as possible.
  21. Oh my god, I just came across after the duelling peaks...
  22. I've just done the first set of quests to get an item and to the first major chatty cutscene and am enjoying it, but it doesn't quite feel like Zelda just yet to me. I know it's meant to be mixing things up and this is kind of the point of it, that you are in isolation, and many people found the intro/tutorial part of Skyward Sword tedious, but I kinda miss that being eased into things, learn the ropes before setting out on a quest. It feels like it needs a bit more personality. Hopefully that will grow as I progress. Have to echo that inventory management is a pain in the butt so far - it really needs a way to be able to drop a weapon from the quick access bit. And the voice acting is definitely ropey - it doesn't feel natural, it feels acted and recorded, but it started growing on me a little as this first main cutscene went on. Time to pop out to get some dinner and then will play some more!
  23. It's here! In an unnecessarily large paper bag! Can't wait to get started!
  24. GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! My mum has Prime at the moment so ordered it on Prime Now through her account. Now when my copy arrives, I will return that through her account. It'll be here within the next couple of hours, so don't even need to go out in the rain! Now to get all my work done in the next 2 hours! Thanks @Ashley and @Rummy for your help/consideration in helping me find a copy, but i'm now sorted!
